Hallo Boardler
Habe mir heute die Hotline von PoP angehört. Der erzählte was hochinteressantes über Geoworks. Hätten Patent i. WAP
Bereich o.

Geoworks Shapes the Future of Mobile as Medium
Company Transforms Innovative Ideas into Wireless Industry Trends
ALAMEDA, Calif., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ --
Mobile communication devices will become the central and indispensable medium for communication, information and entertainment in the near future, predicts Geoworks Corporation (Nasdaq: GWRX). Geoworks, known for its pioneering work as the developer of innovative operating system software and wireless data services for a wide variety of mobile communications devices, has been leading
the technology development in the wireless industry and is well-positioned to continue its role as the leading provider of mobile e-commerce and information services for the business and consumer markets.
"I see a day in the not very distant future where your mobile device is a combination of an electronic wallet, a personal organizer and the primary source for information, when you want it," contends Dave Grannan, CEO and President of Geoworks. "As mobile devices become more and more sophisticated and pervasive, consumers will demand a greater spectrum of quality content and services on their mobile devices."
Geoworks has anticipated this development by creating several lines of business designed to support the various needs of this developing medium. In September of 1999, the company unveiled Mobile Attitude, a suite of advertising-sponsored wireless data services designed to deliver timely, requested information to its subscribers. Mobile Attitude is powered by Geoworks` proprietary Premion Server+ technology, which was specifically created to streamline Internet-to-wireless applications. Unlike other
technology servers, Premion Server+ serves synchronized Web and wireless applications, eliminating the need to maintain separate servers and applications for Web and wireless content delivery.
Additionally, the company`s Professional Services group is working with a wide variety of handset developers who are capitalizing on the company`s expertise in the wireless market. The company is also in the process of creating a new division that will allow any content provider to utilize Geoworks` Premion Server+ technology to enable wireless application capabilities, including back-end technology, hosting and other services needed to deliver a wide variety of content to virtually any mobile device.
"Previous trends in mobile media indicate that consumers respond well to advertising-supported communications, as long as that advertising is customized, relevant and enables them to receive other free content," Grannan continued. "Picture the Internet just a few years ago -- only in the past few years have consumers begun using the Internet for entertainment, shopping and personal productivity. Mobile devices, because they are portable and highly personalized, will carry that trend to new heights."
The Kelsey Group, a Princeton, New Jersey-based industry analyst firm, predicts that by 2002, wireless subscribers will number 600 million, while Internet subscribers will only number 300 million.
This explosion in wireless growth coincides with the realization by consumers and businesses that mobile communications have a wide-scale potential for offering unparalleled personalization and interactivity as a new medium.
In Europe and Asia, consumers and business professionals already view their mobile devices as personal productivity tools. This view is also beginning to emerge in the United States. The wireless industry is developing new technologies and services that will help drive wireless communications forward, including applications and devices utilizing the Wireless Access Protocol (WAP). No communications tool, until the mobile device, has ever
simultaneously offered people this level of customizable, personal,
interactive and portable information.
"As we enter this new millennium, we are all becoming more aware of the need and power of accessing the kinds of information that we use on a daily basis," concluded Grannan. "It is up to companies like Geoworks to help drive the evolution of the wireless communications medium."

Ist denn das mit den Lizenzgebühren nur ein Gerücht oder ist das schon ein Faktum?
