Southwall Technologies Awarded New Two-Year Contract from Saint-Gobain Sekurit

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 28, 2004--Southwall Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:SWTX - News), a global developer, manufacturer and marketer of thin-film coatings for the electronic display, automotive glass and architectural markets, announced today that it has signed a new two-year agreement with Saint-Gobain Sekurit, a worldwide leader in the production of automotive glass, for the purchase of Southwall XIR® solar control films. Under the terms of the agreement, Saint-Gobain Sekurit will purchase more than US$14 million of XIR® 70 and XIR® 75 film between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2005. Optional volumes available in the final year could increase the total contract value by as much as 30%. This agreement follows a previous two-year agreement between the companies, which expired on Dec. 31, 2003.

Vor Southwall kann ich nur warnen. Ich hatte selbst vor über einem Jahr 10000 € bei einem Kurs von 3,0 € investiert. Auf SWTX bin ich bei w:o aufmerksam geworden. SWTX ist hauptsächlich in drei Sparten tätig:
Spezialglasbeschichtungen für die Autoindustrie, die Unterhaltungselektronik und die Architektur.

Die Autoindustrie hat seit Jahren ihre Probleme und kann nur mit Mühe und Rabattaktionen ihren Absatz verbessern. Daran wird sich die nächste Zeit wohl nichts ändern.

Zukunft hat der zweite Wirtschaftsbereich, die Unterhaltungselektronik. Egal ob beim PC oder Fernseher, es wird auf Flachbidschirmtechnik umgerüstet. Die speziellen Beschichtungen vermindern dabei die elektromagnetische Strahlung.

Das Potential bei der Architektur (z.B. Reichstag) kann ich nicht einschätzen. Die Glaskonstruktionen speichern Wärme, vermindern somit Kosten für Energie und filtern das Licht.


Im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz konnte SWTX die Chancen in der "flat planel industry" bisher nicht nutzen, die zwei Hauptkonkurrenten konnten eine positive Performance vorweisen. SWTX stand bis Dezember 2003 kurz vor der Zahlungsunfähigkeit, nach dreimaliger Verlängerung von Kreditverhandlungen mit einem Großaktionär, der Banken und Investmentgrupe Needham and Company, konnte eine Fortführung der AG sicher gestellt werden. U.a. bekam Needham die Option auf 4,5 Mio. Aktien zum Preis von 1 USD, was eine Verwässerung von ca. 30-35 % bedeuten wird, bei Ausübung. Allein im 3. Quartal 2003 fiel ein außerordentlicher Verlust von 20 Mio USD an. Der CFO, welcher Ende 2002 verpflichtet wurde, schmiss vor einigen Tagen das Handtuch.

Bei SWTX handelt es sich um ein höchst unseriöses Unternehmen, von dem ich unbedingt abraten muss. Der CEO Tom Hood verfügt über ein hohes Maß an krimineller Energie. Trotzdem ist er noch im Vorstand.

Ich habe vor einigen Tagen mit 65 % Verlust verkauft. Neben Advanced Vision (14x2 --> 3 E) das zweite faule Ei, das ich mir ins Depot gelegt habe.


Charttechnisch könnte es durchaus auf 2,0 - 2,5 USD laufen, dafür gibt es aber besser geeignete Aktien. Außerdem stehen in Kürze Quartalszahlen an, ein Kurssturz ist dann wohl wahrscheinlich. Ich bin froh, dass dieses Kapitel für mich abgeschlossen ist.

Ach ja, noch was. Der neue Vertrag mit Saint-Gobain Sekurit ist schlechter als der zuvor. Das wird natürlich von diesem Unternehmen nicht erwähnt, um den Kurs zu pushen. Spätestens nach den Quartalszahlen geht es wieder steil bergab.
