Hallo, Biotech-Freunde. Unten möchte ich zwei Empfehlungen geben. Bei Interesse könnten später auch weitere folgen.


Hintergrund:
Sehr große Kurssteigerungen konnten zuletzt Aktien verbuchen, die Mittel gegen Krebs in ihrer Produktpalette haben. Diese vormals sehr kleinen Unternehmen haben ihr Kurs bereits vervielfachen könnnen (z.B. Enzon, Genome Therapeutics...). Auch wenn sie weiterhin sehr aussichtsreich bleiben, gehören sie heute nicht mehr zu den Smallcaps. Es wäre doch schön, wenn es einige noch sehr kleine Unternehmen gäbe, die noch ganz am Anfang stehen, deren Produktpipeline aber vielsprechend wirkt.

Daraus ergibt sich die Ausgangsfrage:
Welche Smallcaps (Marktkapitalisierung <= 500 Mrd. US$) sind aussichtsreich in der Bekämpfung von Krebs positioniert und lohnen deshalb ein Investment?

Es ergeben sich hier für mich vor allem zwei Werte:


1. Empfehlung: Corvas (CORV)

Produktpipeline:
zwei Anti-Krebsmittel in der Vorklinischen-Phase, hinzu kommt viele weitere interessante Ansätze bei anderen Krankheiten (z.B. Malaria)

Partner:
Schering-Plough, Pfizer

Marktkapitalisierung:
272,2 Mio. US$



1. Empfehlung: Xenova (XNVA)

Produktpipeline:
unter anderem Mittel gegen Brustkrebs und Dickdarmkrebs (in Phase II)

Partner:
unter anderem mit Lilly und Bristol-Meyers-Squibb

Marktkapitalisierung:
256,7 Mio. US$


Risiko:
Beide Aktien sind sehr spekulativ, hohe Kursschwankungen sind möglich

Order:
beide Werte werden in Berlin gehandelt, aber in einem sehr engen Markt (insbesondere Corvas), Order limitieren oder gleich in den USA kaufen


Ich selber bin in beiden Werten investiert. Ich habe darauf verzichtet, hier ellenlange Artikel und News über die Firmen zu kopieren. Dieser Aufblähung von Threads stehe ich häufig kritisch gegenüber. Außerdem sollte man sich bei jedem Tip (egal von wem) auf jeden Fall selber informieren, bevor man eine Entscheidung trifft. Dies ist über Yahoo, biospace.com und andere Inforquellen gut möglich.

habe einen älteren Artikel über Corvas gefunden. Warum steigt die Aktie am Montag bei hohem
Volumen stark an, stürzt aber am Dienstag bei geringerem Volumen ab???
Wenn mir das jemand mal erklären könnte.

CEO Randy Woods of Corvas will present his company`s initiatives
on several fronts, including the design and development of new
therapies for cardiovascular, cancer and other major diseases,
including malaria. Woods will also brief investors on strategic
collaborations with Pfizer (PFE), Schering-Plough (SGP), and Covance
(CVD), and recent financing activities that added nearly $10 million
to Corvas` cash position.
Corvas (www.corvas.com) was recently awarded a $600,000 grant
from the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Disease to
support research into the discovery of protease inhibitors for
prophylaxis and treatment of malaria, a disease that infects up to 500
million and kills 2.7 million people annually. New drugs are needed
because current therapies are increasingly ineffective due to drug
resistance in endemic areas, leading to a resurgence in malaria
infection rates and associated morbidity and mortality.
On other fronts, Corvas` proprietary injectable anticoagulant
rNAPc2 is currently being tested in a Phase II clinical trial for the
treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis following orthopedic
surgery. An additional Phase IIa trial in angioplasty is scheduled to
begin later this year. Corvas has a strategic alliance with Pfizer to
develop recombinant neutrophil inhibitory factor (rNIF) as a possible
stroke therapy. Pfizer is currently conducting a Phase IIa trial of
rNIF in patients suffering from acute ischemic stroke.
Corvas also has alliances with Schering-Plough to develop an oral
anticoagulant for the prevention and treatment of chronic thrombosis
and an inhibitor of a key protease associated with hepatitis C virus
replication. In August, Corvas announced that a subsidiary of Covance
will manufacture rNAPc2 clinical material which is anticipated to be
used for Phase III clinical testing upon completion of the current
Phase II clinical program.
In addition to Corvas, senior management from four other
companies will be presenting as well: Integra LifeSciences (IART);
AVAX Technologies (AVXT); Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals (RZYM) and Lifemark
(LMRK).

Hallo Merlyn,

die erklärung für das eigenartige Verhalten von Corvas ist folgende: Zu Beginn dieser Woche hat es auf CNBC in den USA einen wohl recht positiven Bericht über Corvas gegeben. Die Aktie war zwar schon vorher empfoheln, hatte aber irgendwie trotzdem nicht die Aufmerksamkeit. Durch den Bericht auf CNBC stieg das Volumen kurzfristig steil an, der Kurs sprang nach oben. Am Dienstag (gestern) kam es dann zu erheblichen Gewinnmitnahmen, die aber heute ihr Ende fanden. Corvas blieb deshalb heute erstaunlich stabil.

Dies bezeugt mich in meiner Auffassung, daß in den USA noch viel verrückter die Kurse auf die Achterbahn geschickt werden als hier am neuen Markt. Mein Eindruck ist auch, daß viele sich nicht richtig informieren, sondern noch stärker als hier blind auf irgendwelche Analysten hören. Die ganze Biotechkorrektur ist inzwischen ziemlich irrational. Europäische Biotechs zeigen sich insgesamt freundlicher udn stabiler (auch wenn es hier zu ebnefalls zu Kursrückschritten gekommen ist).

Wirkliche, echte Nachrichten hat es von Corvas diese Woche nicht gegeben. Langfristiges Denken ist da angebracht.

Corvas Reports Positive Phase II Clinical Results With its Injectable Anticoagulant rNAPc2

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Corvas International, Inc. (Nasdaq: CVAS - news) today announced positive results from a Phase II clinical trial with its proprietary injectable anticoagulant rNAPc2 for the prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and related complications, in patients undergoing total knee replacement surgery (TKR). In the largest patient cohort, rNAPc2 was shown to reduce the risk of developing DVT by greater than 50% with comparable safety (bleeding), versus what is currently obtained with low molecular weight heparins (LMWH), the current standard of care in this patient population. Details of this study are expected to be presented at the 42nd American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting to be held in San Francisco, California, December 1-5, 2000.

The Phase II trial was an open-label, dose-ranging study conducted in 292 patients undergoing unilateral knee replacement at clinical sites in the United States, Canada, The Netherlands and Italy. The primary efficacy endpoint was the incidence of total DVT as measured by unilateral venography. Safety was evaluated by the incidence of major and minor bleeding observed using the criteria established in previous clinical trials in orthopedic surgery patients. The efficacy and safety endpoints were compared to historical data of LMWH in this patient population derived from the analysis of several contemporary clinical trials.

The rNAPc2 anticoagulant is a small protein originally discovered in blood-feeding hookworms, and is currently manufactured as a recombinant protein for clinical use. The anticoagulant effect of rNAPc2 results from its ability to block the initiating step in the complex cascade of biochemical events resulting in the formation of blood clots (thrombosis) as compared to LMWH and other heparin-related drugs which affect later events in this process. rNAPc2 has been evaluated in three Phase I clinical studies and is currently being evaluated in a Phase IIa trial in patients undergoing elective percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).

Venous thrombosis is one of the most common disorders of the circulatory system and is the third leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. DVT is closely associated with pulmonary embolism (PE), an unpredictable and often-fatal complication when a blood clot travels to the lungs. Increased risk for DVT and PE is associated with major orthopedic surgery such as TKR, hip replacement and hip fractures, as well as certain general surgical procedures including abdominal and cancer surgery. DVT can occur in more than half of these procedures if prophylactic anticoagulant therapy is not employed. Currently, a variety of LMWH and heparin-related products are preferred as the standard of care for post-surgical prophylaxis of DVT in this patient population. The wide acceptance of LMWH is based on results of over a dozen clinical studies demonstrating a 40-50% reduction in DVT versus no prophylaxis. The global market for LMWH and other anticoagulant compounds is estimated to be over $2 billion per year.

War im letzten Heft drin. Der Zeitpunkt ist nicht der Beste, aber auf lange Sicht lohnt sich ein Investment.

Hallo zusammen,

werde heute bei Corvas einsteigen. Grund:

Die Aktienexperten von „Biotech-Report Online“ empfehlen Corvas (WKN 883462) zum Kauf.

Seit einigen Tagen könne der Konzern steigende Umsätze verzeichnen. Demnach hätten die Umsätze von 126.100 Stück am Montag auf 197.600 am Dienstag angezogen. Die seit Januar bestehende Bodenbildung sei in ihren letzten Zügen und werde wahrscheinlich in den kommenden Tagen positiv abgeschlossen. Insofern habe man mit Corvas eine noch „jungfräuliche Aktie“ vor sich. Wenn der Widerstand bei etwas über 10 US-Dollar überwunden werde, werde ein Kaufsignal ausgelöst.

Die Wertpapierexperten von „Biotech-Report Online“ empfehlen den Titel heute im Laufe des Tages in den USA oder kleinere Stückzahlen in Deutschland zu kaufen.

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 14 -- Corvas International today announced that enrollment in the multi-center Phase IIb study of UK-279,276 (formerly known as neutrophil inhibitory factor, or rNIF) being conducted by Pfizer Inc has been completed in accordance with the study protocol design. The primary goal of the study is to determine the dose-response relationship of UK-279,276 for efficacy and toleration in patients suffering from ischemic stroke. The protocol includes a three-month follow-up period following which the data will be analyzed. Conclusions cannot be drawn regarding the outcome of this study until all patients have been fully evaluated and the resulting data have been extensively analyzed.
