INPRISE: First-e banks on Inprise application server;
Europe`s first Internet only bank builds core banking
architecture around Inprise Application Server 3
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29, 2000 4:17 AM
- M2 Communications
MAR 29, 2000, M2 Communications - London -- Inprise Corporation
(NASDAQ:INPR) today announced that first-e, Europe`s first Internet-only bank, is
using Inprise Application Server 3, which includes VisiBroker and AppCenter, in its
core banking architecture. The new system is due to be deployed next month.
first-e, the Internet bank, has been established with the aim of taking the lead in
European Internet-based financial services. The rapidly growing online company
provides Internet banking to consumers using infrastructure, software and services
developed by factor-e, the banking technologies division of enba plc of Dublin.
Inprise Application Server will form a key component in the technology underlying
the next generation of services provided by factor-e.
"In its first six months of operation, first-e the Internet bank has gained many
customers in the United Kingdom. This phenomenal success meant that first-e
needed to ensure its IT infrastructure would continue to allow high service levels to
customers long-term," commented Shane Colclough, chief technology officer of
factor-e. "factor- e chose Inprise Application Server because of the scalability it
offers, and Inprise AppCenter to ensure that first- e`s trading applications are
available as close to 100 per cent of the time as is technically possible."
factor-e has already developed first-e`s brokerage engine using Borland JBuilder 3.0
Enterprise and will use VisiBroker to deploy the bank`s trading application across
the web. The trading engine needs to be able to instantly assess individual
customers` personal buying power, based not just on the value of their cleared
funds, but on the value of their portfolio of stocks and shares at that given moment.
As valuations of individuals` creditworthiness are only valid for 20 seconds, due to
the nature of web trading, the system needs to be robust enough to allow
customers to buy shares in real-time over the web.
"We view factor-e as a particularly innovative and prestigious Internet business.
Being able to develop new web- based services rapidly is not just a nice-to-have,
for factor-e it forms the bedrock of its business," commented Nigel Brown,
managing director of Inprise UK. "factor-e has already recognized the value of
committing to Java to roll out web-based banking applications, and considered
Inprise Application Server as the easiest way to develop to a future EJB 1.1
architecture. This consolidation of our partnership with factor-e demonstrates the
growing acceptance of Inprise technology within the Financial Services sector."
factor-e selected Inprise after an evaluation of competing products. The fact that
Inprise Application Server is based around VisiBroker, the industry-standard
CORBA implementation, was a key consideration in the selection.
Inprise provides the scalability that first-e required to handle the large volumes of
customer transactions involved in running a web-based banking architecture.
"factor-e`s relationship with Inprise is very much a technology partnership. We
selected Inprise not only on the basis of their technology, but in addition for their
professional services and round the clock support," added Colclough. "As first-e`s
customers are working in Internet time, and expect access to the bank`s services
at any time of the day or night, the bank simply can`t afford downtime on its
applications."

Hier der Link
Click on the following hyperlink to view this filing:
http://www.freeedgar.com/search/WL.asp?C=1095070&F=10-K&D=3/…
muss ich auch noch erst lesen. Sindinsgesamt 65 Seiten.
