Presidential Barrel of Jack Daniels Whiskey Placed in Warehouse for Maturation
Barrel Will be Bottled and Sold for Charity
LYNCHBURG, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A special “Presidential Barrel” of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey was placed today in a warehouse in Lynchburg, Tennessee (pop. 361), to commemorate the inauguration of the President of the United States.
Resting on the top floor of one of the warehouses that dot the rolling hills of Moore County, the barrel will continue maturing with the passing seasons and then will be bottled and sold with all proceeds benefitting a charity of the president’s choice. The Distillery announced prior to the election that it would designate a special barrel for the incoming president and all future commanders-in-chief.
Master Distiller Jeff Arnett, who personally selected the barrel, noted that it was only fitting that the famed distillery set aside a Presidential Barrel since the whiskey’s founder, Mr. Jack Daniel himself, was known for hosting inaugural parties in Lynchburg to celebrate the swearing in of a new president.
“I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone that Mr. Jack supported all parties – political and otherwise,” said Arnett. “We wanted to bring back his inaugural tradition and, while we won’t be in Washington, D.C., for all the festivities, we wanted to make sure we did our part down here in Lynchburg to commemorate this historic occasion.”
From time to time, the distillery will taste the barrel to see how the whiskey is maturing. The barrel will yield approximately 240 (750ml) bottles of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.

Finlandia Vodka lief ganz gut.

The Forever Portfolio: Betting on Aging Boomers, Obesity and Tattoo Removal
"Some demographic trends are like tidal waves coming down," says James Altucher, managing partner of Formula Capital. "You can't avoid them [so] you might as well invest in them."
That, in a nutshell, is the thesis of Altucher's latest book: The Forever Portfolio.
Looking way beyond the market's day-to-day machinations, Altucher says the book is "investing in things for the really long term" based largely on demographic trends like:
• Aging Baby Boomers: An aging population obviously means more spending on healthcare and rising occurrence of diseases like Altzheimer's. With a potential treatment in a late-stage trial, Altucher says Wyeth is a potential investment in this devastating affliction. (And, yes, he'd buy Pfizer if the proposed merger is consummated.)
• Rising obesity: While Weight Watchers is the "obvious" play on America's bulging bulges, Altucher prefers ResMed, which makes a device to treat sleep apnea, a common malady of severely overweight people.
• Tattoo removal: An estimated 45 million Americans have at least one tattoo. A large percentage may someday want to have them removed and Cynosure is the way to play that potential trend. The company also trades at very attractive valuations relative to its cash holdings, Altucher says.

in gewissen maß natürlich. er will ja leser

Brown-Forman profit rises but cuts profit view
CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Liquor giant Brown-Forman on Tuesday posted a healthy increase in fiscal third-quarter profit on volume gains from some key brands and reigned-in costs, but the strengthening dollar weighed on revenue -- and cut into its profit forecast for the full 12-month period.
The news sent shares of Brown-Forman down almost 10% to close at $37 after touching a 52-week low of $36.27 during the session.
Before the start of trading, Brown-Forman said that it earned $123 million, or 81 cents a share, on the quarter, up from $116 million, or 75 cents a share, in the same period a year earlier and a penny ahead of the average estimate of analysts polled by FactSet Research.
Sales for the quarter came in at $784 million, down from $877 million, although the company said they would have risen about 1% without the impact of currency fluctuations.
The company's Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey and various wine brands were down by volume, along with Southern Comfort, while Finlandia vodka and Woodford Reserve bourbon were up.
"While the global economic slowdown affected our sales in the third quarter, we continued to run the company in a manner we believe is appropriate for this environment," said Paul Varga, chief executive, in the earnings report. And, he added, "we are cautious regarding the short-term outlook given the extreme difficulty and uncertainty in the global economy."
On the bottom line, Brown-Forman lowered its profit target for fiscal 2009 to a range of $2.70 to $2.90 a share, citing foreign-exchange impact and global inventory reductions. On Dec. 5, the company had given a 2009 forecast range of $3.00 to $3.20 a share and the current Wall Street estimate is for $3.01.
