"There is no first to market advantage for Molycorp. The L(ynas)A(dvanced)M(ate... in Malaysia is now running and will begin to deliver commercial (to SPECIFICATION) materials to AAA customers early in the next quarter. It looks like it will then ramp up to full production (11000 to 22000 MTA) by the end of the year. The mechanically beneficiated ore for more than a year's production is already prepared at Mt Weld and is being shipped to the LAMP as needed. Note that the LAMP process chemistry was designed by Rhodia and is being brought up to speed with EXPERIENCED Chinese supervisors training Malay workers to take their places. Also the marketing has been done in the form of long term supply contracts (10 years).
Molycorp's problem is credibility: Will it be able to supply, on time, to specification? Note that both Molycorp and LYnas have to prove their ability to deliver TO SPECIFICATION, ON-TIME, THE QUANTITIES AGREED, and AT THE NEGOTIATED PRICE. Both are NEW suppliers and as such get a SMALL percentage (10-20) of the demand until the end-user is satisfied that they are RELIABLE. The market today does not need both of them, and the market will decide which one survives.
My guess, and it is, in the end, just that, is that Lynas will win the race due to its much lower operating costs and the experience of its operating team.Lynas' also seesm to have done an excellent marketing job IN ITS OPERATING REGION, Southest Asia.
I think that America's domestic self-sufficiency in all of the critical rare earths is in the hands of Rare Element Resources and Ucore. Both may well be successful, because they are the right size and have the right mix of products. Follow the details coming out of those companies carefully and pay strict attention to the fact that the critical rare earths are much, much, more important than the light rare earths in a balance sheet. The less a supplier has to depend on lanthanum and cerium for revenue the more likely that supplier will be a strong contender and/or the ultimate survivor and a regular supplier.

KUALA LUMPUR: Advisor on rare earth to the White House Jack Lifton will be among the international speakers who will be presenting papers and sharing their views on this hotly debated issue of rare earths when they attend the international seminar on rare earth in Kuantan next week.
The seminar will be conducted by the Malaysian Academy of Sciences but this time it will be held at the very epicentre of the debate on issues surrounding the safety, health, environmental, economic and technological issues surrounding rare earths on Feb 28 at University Malaysia Pahang (UMP) in Gambang.
Lifton is also a founding principal of Technology Metals Research and a consultant, author, and lecturer on market fundamentals of the technology metals to describe those strategic rare metals whose electronic properties make our technological society possible.
These include the rare earths, lithium and most of the rare metals. Educated as a physical chemist, specializing in high-temperature metallurgy, Jack was first a researcher before becoming both a marketing and manufacturing executive. Finally, he became a metal trader specialising in the field of technology metals and of rare metals.
Today, after 48 years of industry involvement, he not only advises the US President on matters pertaining to the development of rare earths industries but also advises both the OEM high tech industry and the global institutional-investment community, on the natural resource issues that impact either a proposed business model or a high-volume manufacturing plan for the mass market.
In highlighting the role and objective of the academy in staging this seminar, Zaidee said it would be to address the hotly debated issues surrounding the safety aspects of rare earths, its industrial applications as well as to clear the misconception surrounding aspects on safety, health, environment, economics and technology.
“The academy aims to bring to the foreground, scientific evidence regarding rare earths and to advise and warn the government dangers if there are any issues of concern related to high pressure or high temperature in the processing of rare earths.

Meiner Meinung nach sind das mal wieder Nebelbomben. Wenn man sich mit Experten unterhält, dann liegen die Probleme ganz woanders, nämlich immer noch bei den teuren Batterien und der geringen Kapazität.
Keiner redet wirklich laut darüber, was passiert, wenn das Elektroauto mit Heizung oder Klimaanlage, voller Beleuchtung und dem anderen elektronischen Schnickschnack mehr als 200 km fahren soll...

Experte Rik De Doncker von der RWTH Aachen widerspricht: Der Wirkungsgrad sei nur bei niedrigen Geschwindigkeiten geringer. Der Grund: China kontrolliert einen großen Teil der Reserven an Seltenen Erden und begrenzt die Ausfuhren. Das treibt den Preis. "Ein Kilo Magneten kostet aktuell 300 Euro", sagt De Clercq. "Vor einem halben Jahr waren sie noch für 280 zu haben."
RWTH-Professor De Doncker schätzt, dass die Seltenen Erden derzeit ein Viertel der Kosten eines Elektromotors mit Permanentmagneten ausmachen. Schraubt China die Preise weiter hoch, verteuert das die Elektromobilität erheblich. Inverto dagegen profitiert von der Kostenexplosion. "Wir benötigen kein Material, das mehr als fünf Euro je Kilo kostet", sagt De Clercq.

Der belgische Motor kocht auch nur mit Wasser. Das Prinzip ist seit ca. 80 Jahren bekannt und diese Motorbauart war bisher nur für Spezialanwendungen geeignet

Der größte Vorteil von dem Motor ist, dass er billig hergestellt werden kann. Der Nachteil, dass er eine aufwändige Steuerelektronik braucht.
