Ucore Updates on Research by University of Alaska FairbanksOct. 7, 2014 – Halifax, Nova Scotia – Ucore Rare Metals Inc (TSX-V:UCU) (OTCQX:UURAF) (FSE:U9U) (“Ucore” or “the Company”) is pleased to provide an update on continuing research being undertaken at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) on mineralized material from the Bokan-Dotson Ridge (“Bokan”) project in Southeast Alaska.

The Mineral Industry Research Laboratory (MIRL) at the UAF, with financial support from the State of Alaska, is advancing a research project focused on the mineral processing of material generated from the Bokan site. The research project is under the direction of Dr. Rajive Ganguli, Chairman, Dept. of Mining and Geological Engineering, College of Engineering and Mines, UAF, and Director of MIRL. It utilizes Bokan feedstock which has previously been upgraded via x-ray sorting, the first step in Ucore’s proposed mineral processing flowsheet.

Dr. Ganguli’s team is seeking to optimize the recovery of rare earth minerals from the feedstock, including target metals such as dysprosium, terbium and yttrium. The focus of the research is the upgrading of Bokan material including leaching by adjusting a number of factors including acid type, acid concentration, and leach temperature. Ucore will be considering the final results of this research and undertaking cost – benefit analysis of the various procedures, as it fine tunes its mineral processing flowsheet, prior to undertaking pilot plant testing of the process.

“The sustainable development of Alaskan mineral resources is of key interest to our laboratory”, said Dr. Ganguli. “Funding support from the Alaska government is enabling us to work directly with Ucore to assess various mineral processing strategies. We are seeking to add value to the excellent processing strategies currently in place. Some of our methods appear to have increased recoveries of heavy rare earths, and are under review with a view to further improving the Bokan processing circuit.”

“Bokan is the highest grade heavy rare earth deposit on US soil and continues to be the subject of academic study from scholars at a global level,” said Jim McKenzie, President and CEO of Ucore. “We’re very pleased that the excellent facilities at UAF are being deployed to advance the processing regime of this important deposit, and appreciate the economic support from the Alaska government. By partnering with the mining industry and academia, the government is demonstrating best practices in economic development. We hope to incorporate the findings of Dr. Ganguli’s work in our forthcoming feasibility study, scheduled for release in 2015.”

Dr. Ganguli’s research is being conducted parallel to independent testing by Hazen Research of the process flowsheet outlined in the Preliminary Economic Assessment prepared by Tetra Tech of Vancouver. The Company expects the results of this testing to be released in Q4 of 2014.

The Gold Report Interview with Byron King (7/21/14)

"Ucore Rare Metals Inc. is the company I've followed the closest [in the REE space]. Its key play is on Prince of Wales Island, in a mining district just offshore of Ketchikan, Alaska. It's on top of an old uranium mine that once produced some of the richest uranium ore ever mined in the United States. The same mineralization that put that uranium in the ground also produced veins filled with REE mineralogy. There are dozens of different minerals that have to be crushed out of the ore and separated, many of which require their own special chemistry. Ucore has done tremendous back-office work in the laboratory to make this all work. It is addressing the chemistry, metallurgy, crystallography, grain size and other things that end users are looking for, all the way down the food chain. Ucore has a pipeline of news coming out this summer, from what I've heard, and I expect great things over the next 12 to 18 months.

Another strong economic factor in Ucore's favor is that the State of Alaska wants to move away from being such an oil-based economy. So the government of Alaska is issuing bonds to fund $145M of the capital expense Ucore needs to build its project. That took a lot of due diligence on the part of the state government, in a place that knows how to investigate mining projects. That is a ringing endorsement of Ucore."

Luisa Moreno: Graphite, Lithium and REEs Essential to Hot Technologies

      Auszug:

"The Alaskan state government has proposed a $144M bond that would help finance the development of Ucore Rare Metals Inc.'s (UCU:TSX.V; UURAF.OTCQX) Bokan-Dotson Ridge REE project. I think it's unprecedented. We haven't before seen local support such as what Ucore has received in Alaska. It shows that the Alaska government recognizes the Ucore project as strategic for the state and, likely, the U.S. The financing arrangement has been signed into law and is contingent upon the completion of a feasibility study for the Bokan project and positive due diligence by the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA). Ucore has received some funding as well from the Department of Energy and is working with different research groups in the U.S.

Ucore's deposit leans toward HREEs so the company would be able to produce some of the less common and more critical elements. Ultimately the company still has to complete a feasibility study and prove that the metallurgy is feasible; Ucore is diligently advancing forward the feasibility study."

Alaska Governor Parnell Signs Senate Bill Authorizing Financing for Bokan Mine Construction http://t.co/Wu4EvMs2uu ‪#‎RareEarths‬ ‪#‎REES‬ ‪#‎Ucore

June 18, 2014 – Halifax, Nova Scotia – Ucore Rare Metals Inc (TSX-V:UCU) (OTCQX:UURAF) (“Ucore” or “the Company”) is pleased to comment on the signing by Alaska Governor Sean Parnell of legislation authorizing the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) to provide financing to the Bokan – Dotson Ridge Project in Southeast Alaska.

Senate Bill 99 (SB99), which was passed unanimously by the State legislature, was officially signed by the Governor in front of a highly attended meeting of the Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce and Rotary. The meeting was attended by Senator Lesil McGuire (co-sponsor of SB 99), the mayors of Ketchikan, Ketchikan Gateway Borough, Sitka and Craig, Deantha Crockett of the Alaska Miners Association, Ucore COO Ken Collison, Ucore Director of Environment and Community Relations Randy MacGillivray, Ucore Advisory Board Member Randy Johnson, as well as members of the South East Alaska public and business communities.

“This legislation will go a long way toward creating new opportunities for Alaskans and growing Southeast Alaska’s economy as a whole,” said Governor Parnell. “By authorizing AIDEA to issue bonds for the Bokan mine, we are moving this critical project, and the many jobs it will create, one step closer to reality. I want to especially commend Senator Lesil McGuire for her work on this crucial legislation.”

“The United States used to be almost self-sufficient in rare earth elements, but now we almost completely rely upon foreign sources for those important minerals,” said Senator McGuire. “We need to move now to become a dominant world player in the development of rare earth elements which are critical for military and economic security, as well as renewable energy systems. Natural resources are the base of Alaska’s economy. Today’s bill signing further broadens that base by supporting responsible development and creating new jobs while giving a big boost to industry in Southeast Alaska.”

“Bokan promises to be an anchor employer for the Southeast region,” noted Ken Collison, COO of Ucore and principal designer of the Bokan mine. “The project will have a strong economic multiplier effect, providing high paying jobs to multiple communities and sustainable development in a region with enormous potential. What’s more, the resource products furnished by Bokan are essential to a rebounding US economy and the military, so the benefits of this uniquely Alaskan project will be felt far beyond the communities in Southeast.”

“The official signing of SB99 is an important milestone for our company and for the people of Alaska” said Jim McKenzie, President and CEO of Ucore. “Bokan will advance Alaska’s economic agenda, and ensure a secure domestic supply line of rare earth metals for the American market. We’d like to express our sincere appreciation to Governor Parnell and Senators McGuire and Stedman for their ongoing support of this important initiative.”

SB 99 was introduced by Senator Lesil McGuire (AK-R). Senator Bert Stedman (AK-R) proposed the amendment which would authorize the AIDEA to issue bonds to finance the infrastructure and construction costs of the Bokan-Dotson Ridge rare earth element project up to a principal amount of $145 million, subject to its own internal due diligence and Board approval. The Bokan Project is located at the head of Kendrick Bay on Prince of Wales Island, approximately 40 miles southwest of Ketchikan.

Chris Ecclestone: Right Size, Right Metals Signal Success for REE Projects

Source: Brian Sylvester of The Gold Report (5/5/14)

Chris Ecclestone: Ucore Rare Metals Inc.'s (UCU:TSX.V; UURAF.OTCQX) Bokan Mountain is just the right size. Ucore saw the light early on and halved the size of the project. It's the companies that are sticking with their oversized projects that will come to grief.

The Gold Report: The Alaskan Senate recently approved $145M in long-term bonds to finance Ucore's Bokan Dotson Ridge project. Does that guarantee the mine will be built?

Chris Ecclestone: With REE prices going lower, all bets are off. However, you could build a mine with that amount of money.

The Gold Report: Besides financing, what else does the Bokan Dotson project have going for it?

Chris Ecclestone: It's the right size. It's better to have a project that runs out in 10 years rather than trying to build the biggest project.

It will be 2016–2017 by the time Bokan Dotson gets built. Some REE prices will be higher then: praseodymium and neodymium, the ones used in wind turbines and in hybrid autos. The Chinese are trying to deal with urban pollution by a wholesale shift toward hybrid autos.

We've seen this over and over in China. When China needs something, it starts by using all of its own product. Then it starts importing the product because demand outstrips production. That's not to say that China will become a net importer of REEs, but if China goes for a big paradigm shift into hybrid autos, it could generate massive demand for neodymium and praseodymium, to be used in the magnets in the engines.
