Leap gives Nortel $350 million, 3-year supply deal
TORONTO, Sept 18 (Reuters) - A subsidiary of Leap Wireless International Inc. said on Monday it would buy $350 million of wireless network infrastructure from Nortel Networks Corp. (NYSE:NT - news) over the next three years to expand its local wireless services.

San Diego, California-based Leap, through Cricket Communications, said the equipment would enable the launch of its competitive local calling service into eight additional markets by the end of 2000, and 25 more for a total of 35 by the end of 2001.

Nortel will provide Leap with cdmaOne digital radio base stations and infrastructure, as well as advanced third- generation cellular technology allowing high speed data services.

Leap is currently offering its Cricket Comfortable Wireless service in two cities in Tennessee. It allows customers to make unlimited calls in a their local area for a flat monthly rate.

Nortel Networks wins optical Internet contracts in China

SEP 18, 2000, M2 Communications - Nortel Networks has won three contracts to provide optical
Internet systems to China - with Dandong Post and Telecommunications Bureau (PTB), Changchun
Post and Telecommunications Bureau and mobile service provider Xiamen Mobile
Communications.

Under the agreement with Xiamen Mobile Communications Nortel will provide its 10Gb/s OPTera
Connect DX Connection Manager system for Xiamen`s backbone network. The system will enable
Xiamen to deliver IP-based services, such as `mobile office` over the air.

The two other contracts cover the supply of Nortel`s 10Gb/s optical systems to the cities of
Changchun and Dandong in the Jilin and Liaoning provinces. Nortel`s systems will enable both
Dandong and Changchun PTBs to offer local Internet access, video services and Internet telephony
to their customers.

The value of the contracts was not disclosed.

In related news Nortel says it has successfully deployed China`s first province-level 10Gb/s
metropolitan optical network for China Telecom Chongqing Corp. The network, which has been in
operation since June, has also passed primary acceptance testing.

Nortel vollendet Alteon-Übernahme

Frankfurt, 06. Okt (Reuters) - Der weltweit zweitgrößte Netzwerk-Hersteller, die kanadische Nortel Networks Corp, hat nach eigenen Angaben die Übernahme der US-Internetfirma Alteon Web Systems (ATON) vollendet. Die Alteon-Aktionäre hätten auf der Jahreshauptversammlung am Mittwoch der Übernahme zugestimmt, teilte das Unternehmen am Freitag mit. Die Akquisition sei durch die Fusion einer hundertprozentigen Nortel-Tochter mit Alteoin realisiert worden. Als Ergebnis der Fusion würden sämtliche ausgegebenen Stammaktien von Alteon WebSystems in ein Bezugsrecht für 1,83148 Stammaktien von Nortel Networks umgewandelt, hieß es.

Stammaktien von Alteon würden an der Nasdaq ab sofort nicht mehr gehandelt, teilte Nortel weiter mit. Nortel habe in Verbindung mit der Fusion annähernd 82 Millionen Stammaktien ausgegeben.

Im Juli hatte Nortel mitgeteilt, man wolle 7,8 Milliarden Dollar in Form eigener Aktien für die Internetfirma bieten.

Wer kennt ONI Systems?
Ich bin seit einiger Zeit in NT investiert, habe jetzt aber auch einige Artikel über ONI Systems (WKN: 939026) im Aktionär,
Telebörse und hier im News Informer gelesen. ONI ist im Bereich der Metronetze tätig und somit für diesen Bereich ein
direkter Gegenspieler von NT.
Es würde mich interessieren was ihr von der Aktie haltet, zumal sie zur Zeit heftig korregiert.
