Terayon Announces Digital Video System for AT&T Broadband`s HITS(R) Affiliates

Terayon Communication Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TERN) today announced its new CherryPicker(TM) National Control digital video management system for cable television operators using AT&T Broadband`s popular HITS(R) (Headend in the Sky(R)) service, which provides operators with pre-packaged digital programming via satellite. This service allows cable operators to easily offer their subscribers a variety of popular cable channels, Pay-Per-View (PPV) movies and events, and digital music channels.

HITS affiliates can use CherryPicker National Control to offer their subscribers more customized programming by creating custom channel line-ups assembled from a variety of sources. CherryPicker National Control can also serve as a platform for additional digital services, including insertion of local advertising. AT&T Broadband and Terayon have worked closely to ensure that HITS affiliates selecting CherryPicker National Control receive top-level service and support, competitive pricing and each unit pre-configured to their desired specification for ease of installation.

CherryPicker National Control is specifically for cable systems that receive HITS content and use Motorola`s National Authorization Services (NAS), which authorize individual subscribers set-top boxes to receive PPV programming, premium services and other programming services.

"As the leading provider of digital video content to the cable television industry, we are eager to work with Terayon to enable our affiliates to utilize our service to the fullest with maximum efficiency," said Paul Bambei, vice president of operations for AT&T Broadband HITS. "Grooming is an important new capability for our affiliates. Short of rebuilding their networks to add channel capacity, this is the best method for affiliates to customize their HITS programming to meet the needs of their subscribers."

"Operators worldwide have deployed more than 700 CherryPickers to assemble programming line-ups customized to meet the requirements of their subscribers, and with our new CherryPicker National Control, we have enabled the more than 900 cable systems that receive HITS content and use NAS to have this same capability," said Stephen King, senior vice president and general manager of Terayon`s digital video systems.

"The CherryPicker product has been a huge success for Motorola. Statistical remultiplexing has enabled our customers to reduce bandwidth requirements for broadcast services, allowing them to deliver additional programming services and interactive applications to their subscribers. These same benefits can now be realized by our National Control Systems and will allow us to offer these same services to all of our markets," said Lou Mastrocola, director of product development for Motorola BCS.

      About CherryPicker

CherryPicker National Control is the latest addition to Terayon`s CherryPicker line of digital video management systems, which give cable, satellite and telco network operators unprecedented choice, control and flexibility in managing their digital video content. The CherryPicker digital video management system is completely interoperable with digital video headend products from most major manufacturers.

More than 700 CherryPickers have been deployed by such leading cable operators as Adelphia, Cablecom, Charter, Cogeco, Cox, Suburban, Time Warner, Telegeneve and Videotron.

CherryPicker is available directly from Terayon, and through many of its partners, including Barco, Motorola, nCUBE, Philips, Tadiran-Scopus, Thomson and SeaChange.

AT&T Broaband`s Headend in the Sky (HITS), founded in 1994, delivers digitally-compressed cable television programming signals to cable operators around the United States, serving more than 1,600 headends representing 144 cable MSOs.
