zweigleisig zu fahren ist sicher nicht schlecht,habe auch schon
daran gedacht.Ich bin leider erst seit kurzem auf die Glasfaserwerte
aufmerksam geworden.Spät aber hoffentlich nicht zu spät.Ciena hat trotz der miesen Börsenstimmung neues AZH erreicht.Super. Sollte man jetzt noch einsteigen oder lieber Rückschlag abwarten?Wie siehst Du andere Glasfaserwerte zB. SDL oder JDS Uniphase?

Ich würde einen Rückschlag abwarten, falls du kurzfristiger Investor bist. Wenn du allerdings Langfristanleger bist, dann würde ich ca. 5% unter aktuellem Kurs eine Kauforder in den Markt legen, dies sollte greifen Pass aber auf, wenn du in Deutschland orderst, dass du den liquidesten Handelsplatz auswählst.
Die anderen Glasfaserwerte gefallen mir ebenfalls sehr gut, sind meiner Meinung nach aber schon sehr sehr teuer. JDS Uniphase würde ich auf diesem Niveau nicht mehr kaufen, bei SDL Inc. spielt die Fusionsphantasie mit, da es noch nicht 100%ig sicher ist, ob sie von JDS Uniphase geschluckt werden oder nicht. Meiner Meinung nach könnte Corning noch ein Wörtchen mitreden

Das Unternehmen scheint mir allerdings mit einer Marktkapitalisierung von ca. 22 Milliarden US $ hoch bewertet zu sein, so dass das Kurspotential nach oben begrenzt ist. Was mich desweiteren skeptisch macht, ist, dass erst im letzten Quartal nennenswerte Umsätze erwirtschaftet wurden, die Aktie ist deshalb als sehr spekulativ einzustufen. Für mich als Langfrist`ler ist die Aktie jedenfalls nichts

Corning`s quarterly profits more than double
NEW YORK, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Fiber optics maker Corning Inc. <GLW.N> said on Monday its third-quarter profits more than doubled, in line with its recently raised forecast, amid surging demand for optical fiber and components used in communications networks.
Corning`s pro forma earnings rose to $317 million, or 35 cents a share, compared with $148.1 million, or 19 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter. Earlier this month Corning said it expected earnings in the range of 34-35 cents a share. Analysts had expected the company to earn 34 cents a share, according to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial.
Including one-time items, Corning`s net income totaled $254 million, or 28 cents a share, compared with $142 million, or 18 cents a share a year ago. Revenues rose 54 percent to $1.9 billion, compared with $1.25 billion a year ago. Excluding the impact of acquisitions, sales increased 37 percent.
Corning earlier this month raised its growth outlook to reflect its booming optical business. Corning reiterated that it expects full-year pro forma earnings per share in the range of $1.15 to $1.17, an increase of about 70 percent over last year`s earnings of 67 cents a share.
"We believe our key growth businesses will lead the way for strong revenue and earnings growth throughout 2001. Consistent with our long-term growth objectives, we expect earnings to grow next year at a rate of about 25 percent," said Corning Chairman Roger Ackerman. Its pending acquisition of Pirelli SpA`s <PIRI.MI> optical-components business will dampen growth by somewhat less than 5 percent, resulting in expected 2001 pro forma earnings per share in the range of $1.40 to $1.43.

Die Umsätze stiegen um 54 Prozent auf 1,9 Mrd. US-Dollar. Bereinigt um Akquisitionen betrug der Anstieg noch 37 Prozent. Triebkraft war die Nachfrage nach Glasfaserleitungen, optischen Verstärkern und Glas für Flachdisplays. Der Umsatz der Photonic Division stieg um113 Prozent.

Level 3 expands deal with Corning
High-speed Internet connection provider Level 3 Communications (LVLT) said today it expanded its agreement with fiber optics maker Corning (GLW), and will develop and deploy new and more cost-effective generations of optical fiber. The agreement also makes Corning the worldwide supplier of optical fiber and cable to Level 3 for at least the next four years and calls for Corning to supply more than 10 million kilometers of additional advanced fiber for future installation in the Level 3 inter-city and metropolitan networks. The original relationship began in August.

Wie heute bekannt wurde, will Cisco Systems seinen 10%-igen Anteil an der Optik-Sparte von Pirelli an Corning verkaufen. Cisco wird im Gegenzug Anteile an Corning bekommen.
Bisher besitzt Corning schon 90% und will mit den Cisco-Anteilen die Firma komplett übernehmen.
