DoxSys and ViewStar® - Produce Winning Results
DoxSys, Inc., has been an active and important Mosaix®/ViewStar partner since
1993. Now, through the Mosaix/Lucent merger they are members of the Lucent
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Solutions Alliance Network. As the
exclusive Lucent ViewStar reseller to the United States government, DoxSys provides
all services required to deliver Lucent ViewStar solutions including requirement
analysis, system design, development, project management, system installation,
training, system enhancement, and support.
In 1998, the Pennsylvania State Employees` Retirement System (SERS) contacted
DoxSys with a request for proposal to automate and upgrade their vast updateable
microfiche and paper-based operation. SERS was established in 1923 and is
responsible for administering payment of the state`s employee and annuitant
retirement benefits. The agency manages more than $20 billion in pension assets for
nearly 200,000 members.
Summary of Results and Benefits:
Reduced paper by 60%
Reduced mailing costs by 80%
Increased member satisfaction by
reducing response time to members
by 75%
Provided multiple, real-time access
Eliminated outdated and unsupported
technology
Eliminated misfiles
Increased processing effectiveness by
simplifying work process
Eliminated process backlog
Streamlined work effort
Allowed for duplicate work
coverage
The environment
Seven SERS regional counseling centers coordinate services throughout the state via
the central office in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. These centers create 173,000 new
documents annually and, with duplication, this balloons to a staggering 350,000. The
centers were surface maildependent, and the process of mailing documents from
regional counseling centers to the central office created more than $65,000 in annual
postage costs. Once received at the central office, the files were placed into
updateable microfiche. This archive technology offered poor image quality and, as
microfiche is heat-sensitive, each update was causing further record deterioration. To
compound matters, an average 10 percent of all documents were being either
misfiled or lost. Because there was often only one copy of a file on updateable
microfiche, critical files were frequently unavailable to decision makers _ especially in
the remote regional counseling centers. Archiving all of these microfiched documents
and the original paper had also created a storage problem for SERS. The combination
of these factors led to slow, unacceptable response times and inefficient member
service.
The challenges "We needed to find a way to safely store and archive our documents,"
stated Sue Hostetter, Director of Benefits Administration for SERS. "We were
spending a great deal of time just passing paper. Usually our regional counseling
centers initiate the paperwork, sending it to the cen- tral office. It was taking up to a
week to fully organize the new paperwork in the field office, match it to the historical
microfiche, and have it available to our technicians in the central office. And, we had
a ton of issues facing us with our microfiche system," Ms. Hostetter continued. She
rapidly named off challenges. "The microfiche was no longer supported by its
manufacturer and the masters were deteriorating. This was a critical issue since all
the member historical documentation was contained on the microfiche. It took a week
to send a copy of the microfiche to the remote regional counseling centers, which
delayed customer service. Even the mailing costs to transport paperwork to the
central office were eating us alive."
The SERS challenge was not to simply replace the paper and microfiche with imaging,
but to streamline the workflow process. Their goal was to improve response time to
members by substantially reducing or eliminating document duplication, decreasing
paper stor- age, eliminating the paper and microfiche tracking database, and
providing a quality archive. They also wanted to provide on-line, real-time records
access, eliminate misfiles, and provide simultaneous access to all decision makers.
These changes would significantly improve the quality of customer care provided to
their members.
Lucent/DoxSys tops in evaluation
With the aid of an unbiased, independent consulting firm, SERS narrowed the field to
three vendors. They invited these finalists, including DoxSys, to perform a live test
demonstration. "Five days before the demonstration we provided a script to the
potential vendors," stated Ms. Hostetter. "They had those five days to write, map, and
demonstrate their solution. And, during the demo we also made a change _ providing
an even more complex puzzle." Hostetter summarized by adding, "We were most
impressed with DoxSys and the ViewStar solution. They came in with backups of
everything, performed a flawless demonstration, and even completed the in-demo
change request within ten minutes. They listened to us, and worked to solve our
business challenges."

Keys to success
DoxSys enjoys an enviable reputation in the workflow industry for successfully
delivering technically efficient, cost-effective solutions that satisfy
customers`information technology requirements. "Our knowledge of the business
process automation marketplace provides us with an ability to offer customers the
right solutions in the right time frame at the right price," stated Michael Brant, DoxSys
President and CEO.
It is those attributes that make DoxSys an ideal member of the Lucent CRM Solutions
Alliance Network. Both Lucent and DoxSys are focused on customers and in solving
customers` business problems. "At SERS, we determined the tools necessary for a
successful client relationship," stated Mr. Brant. "We knew from experience that close,
one-on-one relation ships are most successful, especially when introducing new
technology. To help achieve that level of com munication, we introduced a single
point of contact to avoid any potential confusion, created a client steering committee
for shared responsibility and ownership, maintained weekly face-to-face meetings for
status updates and issue discovery, and initiated a dedicated email account. "When
we implemented the new Document And Work Process Management (DAWPM) system
at SERS, we provided extensive employee training, including two weeks of
one-to-one training. We also conducted the beta for four months to instill confidence
and create user capabilities and func- tional skills," said Mr. Brant.
Members and employees benefit from improved customer care SERS reduced
downtime due to mail delays between the regional counseling centers and the central
office by providing WAN connections from all regional counseling centers to the
central office. Through the DAWPM system, the automation of the retirement
processes allows SERS to make quick changes in the processes dictated by newer
legislation. Overall, access to retiree and member information provides quicker
processing of claims and payments and enables SERS to meet their goal of providing
first- class service to their membership.
"The new system has created round-the-clock file access, as opposed to a previous
average of five days to garner file access," stated Ms. Hostetter. "We have greatly
reduced the enormous paper load and saved postage costs as well. Members can go
into a region al office with confidence that our counselors will have the answers they
need; no phone tag, repeated mailing, or endless waiting." Added DoxSys` Mr. Brant,
"The work at SERS continues uninterrupted when people are out of the office. No
more searching desks, drawers, and cabinets for files or portions of files. Instant file
tracking and access provides the `who, when, and how long` information. It offers
complete control and tracking accountability. Supervisors can review every logon
user, measure productivity, and determine who does what with each file."
"I`ve been with the organization since 1973 _ more than twenty-six years," stated
SERS` Ms. Hostetter. "I started my career here in the records management
department and have seen a lot of changes over the years. There are so many
advantages to our DAWPM system. It is incredible! We`ve seen huge improvements in
our ability to track files, gain file access, search, and view. Previously we were
passing folders around, never certain what the regional offices were doing, or where
files were located. This system has also reduced the feelings of isolation felt by staff
at those remote sites. DAWPM is one of the biggest positive changes that I have
seen."
To date, DoxSys has more than 60 Lucent ViewStar implementations with federal,
state, and local governments. They maintain a direct sales organization with seven
teams focused on workflow solutions. They are also a certified Lucent ViewStar
training partner and maintain a training center at their Bethesda, Maryland facility.

UK`s Autonomy expands into Japan with NTT deal
(UPDATE: Adds details of agreement, quotes, share price)
LONDON, Oct 24 (Reuters) - British software firm Autonomy Corporation Plc
(NasdaqNM:AUTN - news) expanded into Japan on Tuesday, announcing a distribution
pact with NTT Software Corporation.
NTT Software is a unit of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp , Japan`s largest phone
company, and has agreed to sell Autonomy`s language-independent technology into
e-commerce and enterprise markets across the country, Autonomy said.
Autonomy`s software allows computer programs to sift through unstructured text such as emails and make sense of it.
The firm has been phenomenally successful, outperforming the high-tech European Easdaq market by almost four times this
year. Its stock has weakened this month, though, as investors face the prospect of a fresh share issue ahead of a London listing.
Autonomy shares were trading at $45.25 each, up 25 cents, on Easdaq on Tuesday morning.
Autonomy chief executive and founder Mike Lynch said the strategic alliance with NTT Software allowed Autonomy to expand
into the coveted, tech savvy Japanese market.
``NTT Software has been a trailblazer in bringing innovative software solutions to Japanese companies,`` he said in a statement.
``We are pleased to have such a reputable, experienced company representing us in their home market.``
NTT Software provides Internet technology solutions for businesses and joins a growing list of Autonomy partners worldwide.
Others include Compaq (NYSE:CPQ - news), Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HWP - news), Razorfish (NasdaqNM:RAZF -
news) and Sun Microsystems (NasdaqNM:SUNW - news).

@ rukus
Macrosoft und DoxSys sind in USA sehr gut positioniert.
Besonders DoxSys ist pro MA hochprofitabel.
Portalconnect holt gerade Anlauf.

( BW)(MI-SER-SYSTEMS)(SES.) ``Shakespeare Did Write Henry VIII`` Confirms SERbrainware
Business Editors & High-Tech Writers
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 2000--
Collaboration Theory Rejected as SER Associative Search Engine Joins Academic Debate Over Authorship of Elizabethan Drama
An unusual shaft of light was cast on a long-running literary debate yesterday when analysis by SER Systems` (SER`s) intelligent learning engine, SERbrainware
(www.serbrainware.com), suggested, more or less conclusively, that Henry VIII was written solely by William Shakespeare and not the result of a collaborative effort --
usually assumed to be John Fletcher -- a view currently held by many literary experts.
An initial analysis of selected texts from the Bard`s late play has shown them to have an overall 88% likelihood of being by Shakespeare, when compared with such
established works in his canon as Richard III, Henry IV Part 1, Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice and A Winter`s Tale. "Such a high score in terms of the
SERbrainware engine indicates a very strong probability that Henry VIII was written by Shakespeare alone," confirms SER`s Peter Turnbull.
In the case of Henry VIII, 71 pages of pure text were compared with selected complete works of Shakespeare, Fletcher and Marlowe previously entered in similar
format. The resulting analysis "overwhelmingly" found the play to be by Shakespeare alone, with little textural affinity with his claimed co-author.
By way of comparison, the study showed that selected other contemporary plays are clearly not the work of this most famous of Elizabethan playwrights. Among
those analysed:
--
John Fletcher -- Bonduca at 10%
--
Christopher Marlowe -- Doctor Faustus and Tambourlaine both rated at 0%;
--
Benjamin Jonson -- Volpone at 0%;
--
Thomas Dekker -- The Roaring Girl at 16%, and
--
John Webster -- The Duchess of Malfi at 4%.
Using SERbrainware in this way, global market leading software developer of knowledge management and eBusiness automation solutions, SER, has entered a
debate which has raged for more than a century, since James Spedding first raised doubts concerning the play`s authorship in 1850.
Though there is currently much academic support for the view that Henry VIII was in fact a collaborative effort with fellow Elizabethan playwright, John Fletcher,
John Margeson, emeritus professor of English at the University of Toronto, believes that, "the authorship question is unlikely to be settled to everyone`s satisfaction
unless startling new external evidence is uncovered at some future date."
Associative searching
A broad but random sample of each of the selected plays was put into the search engine in pure text format and compared with six complete Shakespeare and
Marlowe plays (and, in the case of Henry VIII, with Fletcher). In each case it then determined the likelihood that the work was by any of these major playwrights.
SERbrainware is SER`s award winning neural network based intelligent learning engine, which reads, analyses and acts on text with human-like intelligence, using a
patented neural network algorithm to bring unprecedented speed and accuracy to eBusiness automation. It heralds a new generation of applications that render complex
rules based systems virtually obsolete.
"Critically, SERbrainware learns by example," points out Turnbull. "It analyses both structured and unstructured text from any media type and is trained by people who
show it how they would read and make decisions on the basis of available information."
In classification mode, a small sample is used to teach the engine how to categorise -- it is then able to classify large quantities of new text documents into the same
categories. In its search mode SERbrainware takes the word patterns in a small sample of documents -- representative of the required content -- and then analyses,
finds and returns documents with similar meanings.
All this is achieved with unprecedented speed. "Following the inputting of raw text examples of each play, the text of Henry VIII was read, understood and classified
in less than five minutes," he confirms.
Leveraging corporate know-how
"The essence of SERbrainware is that it automates the process of dealing with the daily flood of new information from websites, e-mail, fax traditional mail and even
voice," says Ian Williamson, VP of SER. "It classifies and sorts information intelligently in ways that were previously only possible if individuals read it."
The commercial applications of SERbrainware are both broad and far-reaching. At its simplest it can have a dramatic impact in a mailroom environment where large
volumes of documents have to be sorted and categorised. In addition, it is particularly relevant where high volume repetitive tasks require highly skilled input, for example
patent administration or processing medical insurance claims, freeing up time and expertise for more value-added activities.
"SER`s contribution to this literary controversy will itself no doubt be the subject of some debate," believes Williamson. "What is beyond doubt however is that by
leveraging existing corporate know-how in this way, SERbrainware will increase the overall clockspeed of an organisation.
"The result is that for the first time, clients will be able to conduct eBusiness at internet speed -- a true eRevolution."
