Affymetrix and MWG-Biotech Expand Distribution Agreement
EBERSBERG, Germany and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- MWG-Biotech AG (DAX: NWU) and Affymetrix, Inc. (Nasdaq: AFFX - news) today announced that they have replaced their existing distribution agreement with a value added reseller agreement for the sale of Affymetrix` spotted array instrumentation in Europe and North and South America. Under the terms of the agreement, MWG-Biotech will offer Affymetrix` spotted array instrumentation in combination with their existing array and reagent product offerings. Affymetrix will continue to provide both the GeneChip® and spotted array systems in these regions.

In 1999 MWG-Biotech was granted distribution rights by Genetic MicroSystems, Inc. (now Affymetrix) to sell spotted arrayers and scanners in specific European territories. This agreement was expanded in October 2000 to include the United Kingdom as a non-exclusive territory. The value added reseller agreement replaces these prior agreements.

Die am Neuen Markt notierte MWG-BIOTECH AG und die Affymetrix, Inc. (Nasdaq:
AFFX) haben ihr Distributions-abkommen in eine weitreichendere
VAR-Vereinbarung (VAR= Value added reseller) für den Verkauf von Affymetrix
Spotted Array-Instrumenten in Europa und Nord- und Südamerika umgewandelt.
Im Rahmen der neuen Vereinbarung wird MWG-BIOTECH die Affymetrix-Geräte in
Verbindung mit MWG-BIOTECH´s bestehenden Array- und Service-Produktangebot
vertreiben. Affymetrix wird sein GeneChip- und Instrument-Angebot in diesen
Verkaufsgebieten aufrechterhalten.

1999 erhielt MWG-BIOTECH von Genetic Microsystems Inc. (heute Affymetrix)
die Vertriebsrechte für den Verkauf von Array Spotting und Scanning
Instrumenten für europäische Vertriebsgebiete. Diese Vereinbarung wurde im
Oktober 2000 um die nicht-exklusiven Vertriebsrechte für Großbritannien
ergänzt. Die nun abgeschlossene VAR-Vereinbarung ersetzt alle diese alten
Vereinbarungen.
