@all NEWS NEWS NEWSCOLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 2001--U.S. semiconductor maker Ramtron International Corporation (Nasdaq:RMTR) today announced that NEC has become the ninth leading semiconductor firm to license Ramtron`s revolutionary FRAM memory technology. Under the multi-million-dollar agreement, Ramtron will provide a license to Ramtron`s ferroelectric random access memory technology in exchange for certain licensing fees, milestone payments and future royalties relating to the license.

"We are pleased to welcome NEC to our growing list of FRAM partners," said Greg Jones, Ramtron technology group president. "This agreement is further evidence that FRAM memory is gaining momentum in the industry. Along with Ramtron and its current partners, NEC will become a key contributor to the rapid acceptance of FRAM memory in the semiconductor market."

"Through this agreement with Ramtron International, NEC is aiming to accelerate the incorporation of FRAM technology with our microcomputer products such as smart cards," said Yuichi Kawakami, general manager, Microcomputer Division, NEC Electron Devices. "We want to become the first supplier of FRAM-embedded microcomputers using 0.25-micron-rule process."

The latest agreement with NEC comes on the heels of an August 2001 FRAM licensing agreement with Texas Instruments. In addition to NEC and Texas Instruments, Ramtron has FRAM licensing and/or manufacturing agreements with top semiconductor producers including Infineon Technologies, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Toshiba, Rohm, Samsung and Asahi Chemical.

Ramtron`s patented FRAM memories are a new generation of semiconductor memory that combines high-performance and low-power operation with the ability to store data in the absence of power. Due to the product`s unique advantages, FRAM memories are expected to revolutionize a variety of electronic consumer and industrial products. Current applications for Ramtron`s FRAM memory devices include electronic power meters, smart cards, automotive instrumentation, factory automation, laser printers, security systems, and other systems that require reliable storage of data without an external power source.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 2001--Ramtron International Corporation (Nasdaq:RMTR), the world leader in nonvolatile ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM) products and intellectual property, today introduced the FM24C256-SE, the world`s first 1-transistor, 1-capacitor FRAM memory product. The FM24C256-SE is a 256-kilobit (Kb) two-wire, serial FRAM product that uses a newly developed 1-transistor, 1-capacitor (1T/1C) memory cell that significantly improves the cost-per-bit ratio of resulting FRAM memory products. The cost-effective cell architecture is expected to fuel increased market share for FRAM memory products in the multi-billion dollar nonvolatile memory market.

"The introduction of the first 1T/1C FRAM is a significant milestone for the ferroelectric RAM market," said David Bondurant, Ramtron`s vice president of marketing. "1T/1C FRAM technology lays the groundwork for memories that can combine the density of DRAM and the low power, equal read/write speed of SRAM with the nonvolatile storage capability of Flash or EEPROM."

Semico, a leading semiconductor research firm based in Phoenix, Arizona, estimates that the total revenues for nonvolatile memory in 2000 were $13 billion, compared with $7 billion for 1999. Ramtron is positioned to gain market share in the nonvolatile memory market due to the broad feature set offered by FRAM memory. FRAM is the only commercially available memory technology that combines the fast read/write capability of DRAM and SRAM with the ability to store data without a power source.

      1T/1C Technology Advancements

Recent advances in ferroelectric materials and processing have eliminated the need for an internal reference capacitor within every cell in the ferroelectric memory array. Instead, the new 1T/1C cell architecture uses a single capacitor as a common reference for each column in the memory array, effectively cutting the required cell area in half compared to Ramtron`s existing 2T/2C architecture. The new architecture significantly improves die leverage, which results in lower overall manufacturing costs. Ramtron is currently working on additional improvements to the 1T/1C cell that are expected to further increase cost efficiency and density in future generation products.

      Product Application

The FM24C256-SE FRAM provides superior performance to industry standard EEPROM and nonvolatile RAM products in metering (solid state utility metering, printers and copiers), telematics (automotive electronic systems), and communications (telephones, caller ID and short messaging services) applications. The product is ideal for any application that requires fast write speed, high write endurance, and low write power.

      Product Benefits

Ramtron`s FM24C256 reads and writes continuously at bus speeds of up to 1 MHz with virtually unlimited endurance. Similar EEPROM devices require long write delays, write polling software, and have endurance limited to less than 1-million write cycles. In addition, the new product features low standby and operating currents.

      Product Features

The FM24C256 is a 256Kb nonvolatile RAM with an industry standard 2-wire interface and pin compatibility with industry standard 24C256 type EEPROMs. Read and writes are performed at bus speeds up to 1MHz. It operates from a 5-volt power supply and draws 75 microamps for reads and writes at 100 kHz. The FM24C256 offers 10 years of data retention and is rated over the industrial temperature range of

      -40 Degrees C to +85 Degrees C.

      Pricing and Availability

Samples of the FM24C256-SE are available immediately in 8-pin SOP packaging. Volume production is scheduled for 1Q2002, with pricing starting at $3.92 in 10K quantities.

20MHz SPI Interface, 3-volt Supply and Unlimited Endurance Deliver Low Power and Leading Performance

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO-January 29, 2002-Ramtron International Corporation (Nasdaq:RMTR), the world leader in ferroelectric RAM products and intellectual property, today announced the availability of the FM25CL64, the first in a new line of 3-volt serial parallel interface (SPI) ferroelectric random access nonvolatile memory (FRAM) products. Ramtron`s 64Kbit serial FRAM is the highest-performance SPI memory available with 20MHz NoDelay(TM) writes and unlimited read/write endurance. The product also offers low +3-volt standby and active power dissipation while maintaining drop-in compatibility with industry standard serial EEPROM.

"Our first +3-volt SPI FRAM showcases the fast write speed, unlimited endurance and low power of our nonvolatile memory products," said David Bondurant, Ramtron`s vice president of marketing. "This unique set of features is ideal for automotive, telematics and wireless communications applications."

      Product Benefits
The FM25CL64 reads and writes continuously at 20MHz. Similar EEPROM products read at 10MHz and require ten-millisecond write delays that can require software write polling. The FM25CL64 supports an unlimited number of read or write cycles while EEPROM wears out after less than 1 million cycles.

      Product Features
The FM25CL64 is a 64Kb nonvolatile RAM with an industry standard SPI interface and pin compatibility. It supports modes 0 and 3 operation and has a software block write protection function. Read and writes are performed at bus speeds up to 20MHz throughout the entire memory. There are no write delays or maximum write buffer sizes. The product operates from +3.0V to 3.6V and uses just 1uA at standby. The FM25CL64 offers 10 years of data retention and is rated over the industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

      Pricing and Availability
Samples of the FM25CL64 are available immediately in 8-pin SOP, with pricing starting at $1.41 in 10K quantities.
