DA hier in Deutschland noch bei 0,07 Euro
Material liegt, dürfte dies ein Schnäppchen
sein.

Für mich sind das in Deutschland somit

Diese KGV-Angaben zu BOC kommen mir reichlich seltsam vor. Vermutlich stammen die Zahlen aus den letzten profitablen Tagen Ende der 80er?

Und die nächsten 10 Jahre wird es mit der Mine wohl auch nix. Die Widerstände gegen die alten Betreiber sind meiner Meinung nach zu groß.

Rio Tinto Prices Bougainville Restart beyond Viability

Managing director of Rio Tinto Ltd (RIO), Barry Cusack today priced the restart of RIO’s Bougainville copper operations in excess of $1 billion.

Speaking at a breakfast this morning Mr Cusack said RIO was still unable to gain access to the mine site due to continued opposition from rebel forces. "Representatives from the revolutionary army have stated they do not wish to see any resumption of mining”, Mr Cusack said.

Instead, commenting on the changed dynamics of the copper industry, Mr Cusack said the price tag of $1 billion to recommence operations would price all but the bravest out of considering a recommencement of operations. "It (Bougainville deposit) has about 500 million tonnes of ore of which about half is pre-stripped, but Bougainville (mine) was running at a time before a lot of Chilean copper came on the market and shifted the cost curve. "To restart the Bougainville operations you would have to put in well north of $1 billion and if you`d like to put a cheque with that sort of number into that part of the world you`d be pretty brave," he said.

Ruling out a restart in the short term, Mr Cusack said it would only be in the long term before anyone revisited mining the deposit.

Looking forward, Mr Cusack predicted the recovery in Asia and continued growth in emerging countries like China, would see producers of minerals and energy benefit. "We are likely to experience improved market conditions," he said.

Discussing the downfall for mining and the ascent of technology, Mr Cusack lamented, "Once a such a positive prospect would have commanded column inches and excited the market but the reality is today the expectations that once adhered to resource stocks have shifted to IT companies." However, the true beneficiaries of the IT revolutionary were the established industries like manufacturing, retailing and mining, he said.

BOUGAINVILLE LANDOWNERS SUE RIO TINTO IN U.S. COURT; DAMAGES SOUGHT FOR PANGUNA POLLUTION

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (September 8, 2000 – The National)---Bougainville landowners yesterday filed a class-action lawsuit in the United States against Rio Tinto, one of the world’s largest mining companies, which owns the closed Bougainville Copper Limited’s Panguna copper mine.

In an unprecedented move and using a U.S. federal law that allows such civil actions, the landowners are seeking damages for massive environmental destruction, human rights violation and for discrimination against Bougainvilleans.

They have engaged Steve Berman, a high-profile litigation lawyer who is well known for successfully representing Washington State and 12 other U.S. states in lawsuits against the U.S. tobacco industry several years ago.

Mr. Berman, of the Seattle law firm Hagens-Berman, filed the lawsuit in the U.S. district court in San Francisco yesterday.

The suit claimed the London-based Rio Tinto engaged in a joint venture with the PNG government to maintain a copper mine on the island, which resulted in international environmental violations and crimes against humanity stemming from the PNG Defense Force military blockade motivated by civilian resistance to the mine.

Mr. Berman said that the Rio Tinto lawsuit could have broad implications for other groups seeking redress from crimes committed during wartime by private companies.

The lawsuit seeks to represent Bougainvilleans who continue to be exposed to toxins resulting from the Panguna mine, individuals who lost property due to ongoing environmental contamination, and people injured or killed during the Bougainville conflict between 1989 and 1999.

Under the Alien Tort Claims Act, foreign nationals can bring suit in the United States against companies that violate international law.

Rio Tinto is the parent company of subsidiary U.S. Borax Inc, headquartered in Los Angeles.

According to the suit, Rio Tinto destroyed entire villages, razed the rain forest, and sliced off a hillside to establish Panguna, the world`s largest open-cut mine.

The mine excavated 300,000 tons of ore and water every day during its operation between 1972 and 1988.

The suit alleges that Rio Tinto laid the groundwork for environmental disaster by improperly dumping waste rock and tailings and emitting chemical and air pollutants without regard for the villagers.

The tailings turned the fertile Jaba and Kawerong river valleys into wasteland, according to the suit.

Fish and whole forests died and water became non-potable, the lawsuit claims.

According to the suit, Rio Tinto’s mine operators also dumped chemicals directly into the Kawerong River, leaving river alkaline and copper green. The mine also emitted dust clouds that created upper respiratory infections and asthma in villagers.

The suit charges that environmental damage destroyed the villagers’ food production and cash cropping systems. The Bougainville people began dying more frequently from upper respiratory infections, asthma and tuberculosis; coughs, colds and chronic ear infections became more common in children.

Said Mr. Berman, "Rio Tinto used their huge economic influence to effectively turn the PNG army into their private police force in the attempt to break the will and spirit of the Bougainvilleans."

"They didn’t, and the villagers want justice for the horrible pain and suffering they were forced to endure."

PNG’s blockade of Bougainville cut off medical supplies to pressure the people to submit to PNG control and reopen the mine, the suit claims.

The siege resulted in deaths from preventable diseases such as TB and whooping cough of more than 2,000 children in the first two years. Between 1990 and 1997, about 10,000 Bougainvilleans died as a result of the siege, the suit said.

"Rio Tinto treated Bougainvilleans with no respect and thought of them as inferior in every way: socially, economically, racially and politically. This lack of basic human compassion is one of the many reasons that Bougainvilleans are demanding justice," Mr. Berman said.

The suit also claims that about 15,000 civilians died as a result of armed acts by the PNG Defense Force. The military actions included aerial bombings, burning of houses and villages, wanton killing and acts of cruelty, rape and degrading treatment.

"By exerting financial pressure, Rio Tinto played an active role in the demise of the Bougainville environment and people, as surely as if they’d pulled the trigger themselves," said Paul Luvera, co-counsel for the plaintiffs.

"This case seeks justice for those who are still struggling to recover a life for themselves on their own land."

so kann man diese in SYD sehr wahrscheinlich
erst nach Umwandlung oder Umschreibung verkaufen.

Aber der enorme Preisabschlag hier in Deutschland
reizt einen schon.

Was ist das denn da in München für ein Briefkurs
mit 0,60 Euro ??? bei Consors??

In Australien ist der Kurs auf jeden
Fall charttechnisch ganz klar und ohne
wenn und aber am Steigen.

Ich rechne mit Eröffnungskursen um
0,155 bis 0,16 A.$.
Leider habe ich auch zu wenig hiervon
bekommen.
Aber in Deutschland sind sie ja noch preis-
wert zu haben. Leider nur ADR`s, die
austr. Originalaktien wären mir lieber,aber
viel zu teuer.

Einige Details daraus (aktueller Bougainville-Kurs in Berlin umgerechnet in A$: ~ 0,09)

Cash pro Aktie: ~ 0,3 A$
Schulden, Kurz- / langfristige: 0 / 0
Buchwert pro Aktie: 0,73 A$

Es werden seit der Schliessung der Kupfermine 1989 / 1990 praktisch keine Umsätze mehr getätigt, die jährlichen Überschüsse resultieren daher von den vorhandenen Vermögenswerten, z. B. dem Cash-Bestand von 121,4 Mio A$.

Kursen in Deutschland, verstehe ich nicht,
dass die Aktie nicht höher steht.
Ich habe mir einen kleinen Teil zugelegt.

Bougainville decides to quit Panguna mine
SYDNEY, May 1 (Reuters) - Bougainville Copper Ltd (BCL), about 54 percent owned by Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto Plc/Ltd, said on Tuesday it had decided to quit its Panguna copper mine project on Bougainville island in Papua New Guinea.
Twelve years after ceasing operations at the mine because of political insurgency, Bougainville Copper (BCL) said it had decided to sell its assets and seek investments for cash reserves presently invested in securities and bonds.

In a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange on Tuesday after the company`s annual meeting in Port Moresby on Monday, chairman Barry Cusack said it would be in the best interests of the company to dispose of the Bougainville assets, despite steady progress in the Bougainville peace process.

"A decision to terminate association with the project the company was formed to develop is not an easy one. Careful study and consideration has been given to this proposal over the last two years," Cusack said.

Exiting Bougainville would be difficult, with the Panguna operations subject to an operating contract with the PNG government. BCL could not simply take unilateral action, he said.

The decision to exit Panguna was not just a function of access difficulty but also of the increased cost of replacing infrastructure and declining metal prices, Cusack said.

Provision would need to be made for both rehabilitation and landowners, with the precise nature of provisions yet to be determined, he said.

Funds held by the company had been invested in PNG in government bonds and on fixed deposit with the major trading banks, he said.

Regional news agency Pacnews quoted Cusack as saying in Port Moresby that the company presently had Kina 120 million (US$41.64 million) invested in securities and bonds.

BCL is owned 53.6 per cent by Rio Tinto, 19.1 per cent by the PNG Government and 27.3 per cent by public shareholders.

Rio to Sell Bougainville Copper Mine, Once the World`s Biggest

Melbourne, May 2 (Bloomberg) -- Rio Tinto Group, the world`s second-biggest mining company, said it plans to sell an abandoned Papua New Guinea copper mine, once the world`s largest, because it would be too expensive to re-open.

The Panguna mine on the island of Bougainville was closed in 1989 by Bougainville Copper Ltd., which is 53 percent owned by Rio. BCL will review making other investments when the mine is closed, Chairman Barry Cusack said in an address to shareholders.

The mine, once Papua New Guinea`s biggest export earner, was closed after armed attacks led Rio to withdraw staff. Rio is being sued in the U.S. by landowners who allege the Panguna mine contributed to the deaths of thousands of people and damaged the environment. London-based Rio rejects the claim.

``It was never envisaged that the mine would be closed in the circumstances that happened,`` said Cusack, who is also managing director of Rio Tinto Ltd., Rio`s Australian arm. ``The board is unanimous in its belief the best interests of the company will be served by disposing of the Bougainville assets.``

Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange have slumped 28 percent since Panguna was closed.

Rival BHP Ltd. is in discussions with Papua New Guinea about exiting its 52 percent in the Ok Tedi copper mine. BHP has said the mine should be closed early because it has caused more damage to the environment than initially predicted.
