Calypte Reports On Positive Outcome of pre-IDE Meeting On the Rapid HIV Urine Test

ALAMEDA, Calif., Oct 9, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Calypte Biomedical Corporation (OTCBB:CALY) the developer and marketer of the only two FDA-approved HIV-1 antibody tests that can be used on urine samples, today announced that it held a preliminary Investigational Device Exemption (pre-IDE) meeting with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to define and agree to clinical testing plans and requirements to evaluate Calypte`s Rapid HIV Urine Test for the detection of HIV-1 antibodies. Senior Calypte management met with representatives of FDA`s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) on October 4, 2002.
Based on last week`s meeting, the company plans to accelerate the development of its new Rapid HIV Urine Test by using a modular pre-market approval (PMA) application approach. This method could speed the rate at which the FDA approves the PMA, as the process is broken into definable sections, which can be submitted and reviewed as Calypte works on the completion of the next module. With the completion of the pre-IDE meeting, the company is moving forward with its planned IDE submission in December 2002 with the initiation of clinical studies targeted for February 2003.

Calypte`s Director of Regulatory Affairs, Don Kafader, stated, "We are delighted with the FDA`s openness to work with us on this important new diagnostic and the tone of the meeting. Meeting directly with the FDA establishes a firm groundwork to facilitate the initiation of our clinical studies in the United States and for the early submission and review of our final PMA application next year. The face-to-face meeting allowed us to obtain clear feedback and constructive suggestions from the FDA on our proposed study design for the Rapid Test."

Gegründet auf von letzter Woche Sitzung, beschleunigen die Firmapläne die Entwicklung seines neuen schnellen HIV-Urintests, indem sie eine modulare Anwendungsannäherung der Vorbörsenzustimmung (PMA) verwenden. Diese Methode könnte die Rate beschleunigen, an der die FDA das PMA genehmigt, da der Prozeß in definierbare Abschnitte defekt ist, die eingereicht werden und wiederholt werden können, während Calypte auf der Beendigung des folgenden Moduls arbeitet. Mit der Beendigung der Sitzung vor-Pre-IDE, zieht die Firma vorwärts mit seiner geplanten IDE-Unterordnung im Dezember 2002 mit der Einführung der klinischen Studien um, die für Februar 2003 gezielt werden.

Na, was habe ich gesagt? News bzgl. FDA-Treffen innerhalb der nächsten 48 Stunden.....und: Antrag auf beschleunigtes Zulassungsverfahren. Das heißt, daß es eine premarket approval geben wird, eine vorläufige Zulassung zum Verkauf. Allerdings müssen hierzu erst einmal die klinischen Tests durchlaufen werden, und die sollen ja auch erst im Februar 2003 beginnen. Also nix mit baldiger Zulassung. Schön allerdings, daß sich die FDA auf Caly`s Vorschläge eingelassen hat. Mit viel Glück gibt es die vorläufige Zulassung dann Ende 2003!
Ich habe allerdings gesehen, daß viele auch in Deutschland vorsichtig geworden sind beim Handel mit Caly-Aktien. Momentan noch kein Kursanstieg zu beobachten. Warten wir mal auf Amiland!

das der kurs nicht steigt, liegt meiner meinung nach daran, dass man nicht mehr so an caly glaubt. es waren zuviele sinnlose meldungen dabei; die kursanstiege immer geringer und von kürzerer dauer.
persönlich geht es mir auch so: habe ich mich früher über jede caly-meldung gefreut und den erfolg am real-time automaten verfolgt, nehme ich dies heute nur zu kenntnis.
schade drum, aber ich habe schon zu viel verloren (mittlerweile auch mit caly) als das ich darauf reagiere. ich hoffe natürlich immer auch auf einen caly-anstieg.

Da hast Du wohl recht. Aber wo man im Moment auch investiert: Verluste auf breiter Front! Also bleiben meine Calys hübsch fein im Depot liegen - ich kann warten. Sollte der drohende Irak-Krieg vermieden bzw. gewonnen werden, dürfte mit einem rasanten Kursanstieg auf allen Sektoren zu rechnen sein!
Meiner Ansicht nach werden die USA einen Präventivschlag auch ohne Unterstützung durchführen. Für den Irak dürfte der Ausgang der gleiche sein, wie 1991. Selbst dann, wenn in großen Mengen bakteriologische und chemische Kampfstoffe zum Einsatz kommen sollten. Das militärische Potenzial des Irak dürfte außerdem noch nicht wieder das Niveau von 91 ereicht haben.
Strategie der Amis: Großangelegte Luftoperationen, Zerstörung bekannter und identifizierter Ziele durch Bombardement aus der Luft mit B2/B52-Bombern oder Cruise Missiles (Bunkeranlagen, Artilleriestellungen, lokale Kommandozentren). Anschließend Einsatz von kombinierten Boden- und Luftverbänden zur Zerschlagung mobiler Einheiten des Gegeners (Panzer, Infanterie).
Selbst eine auf Verteidigung basierende Strategie der irakischen Armeeführung dürfte am Resultat nichts ändern.
Gepanzerte Einheiten der USA dürften wie deutsche Einheiten mit Überdruckanlegen gegen bakteriologische und chemische Kampfstoffe gewappnet sein.
Sollte der Irak bereits eine Atombombe besitzen, kann er sie nur eingeschränkt einsetzen (keine Raketen mit großer Reichweite). Lokale Basen der Amerikaner sind damit nicht erreichbar. Außerdem würde unvermeitlich sofort ein atomarer Gegenschlag der USA erfolgen.
Die Auswirkungen auf die Fernöstliche Welt dürften sich im gleichen Rahmen halten, wie zuletzt in Afghanistan - immerhin wird ein aggressiver Nachbar beseitigt.
Ich hoffe allerdings nach wie vor auf eine politische Lösung - einzige Hoffnung um tausende unschuldiger Leben zu schützen und zu retten. Bis dahin heißt es mal wieder warten.....und Caly halten!

ALAMEDA, Calif.The Chinese National Center for AIDS Prevention and Control (NCAIDS) announced today that it has selected Calypte Biomedical`s (NASDAQ: CALY - news) non-invasive urine HIV test for wide-scale use within the Chinese health-care system. The urine HIV test will also be the exclusive non-invasive HIV test used by the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine (CAPM). The decision was based upon favorable results the NCAIDS obtained during its initial evaluation of Calypte`s urine HIV test.
According to the recent letter of agreement signed by all involved parties, the NCAIDS and the CAPM intend to use Calypte`s urine HIV test in various HIV screening applications, including: STD clinics, pre-screening of blood bank donors, military personnel, pregnant women, children, marriage license applications and insurance applications. The NCAIDS and the CAPM will assist Calypte in contacting, and working with, the World Health Organization, United Nations AIDS and other national health agencies in neighboring Asian countries to introduce Calypte`s urine HIV test to these areas.

Calypte Receives First Commercial Order in China With New Distributor; Order for 100,000 Tests to Ship in Fourth Quarter 2002

ALAMEDA, Calif., Oct 15, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Calypte Biomedical Corporation (OTCBB:CALY), the developer and marketer of the only two FDA approved HIV-1 antibody tests for use with urine samples, announced that it has received its first commercial order from its new Chinese distributor for the Urine HIV-1 EIA. Calypte has signed an exclusive two-year distribution agreement with Zhong Yang Pute Co. ("ZYPute"), a distributor of medical products in China.
The agreement calls for minimum purchase orders of Calypte`s products, which are expected to add at least $3 million in revenue over the next two years. The company will begin manufacturing the first order of over 100,000 tests imminently, with shipping expected to occur in the fourth quarter. The agreement is automatically extendable for an additional two years contingent upon the distributor`s performance and new minimum purchases will be negotiated at that time.

The agreement gives exclusive rights to distribute the Urine HIV-1 EIA and Urine HIV-1 Western Blot tests to specific market segments within 20 of the 31 Chinese provinces and to the military nationwide, along with non-exclusive distribution rights for the Serum HIV-1 Western Blot tests in the same territories. Calypte`s Urine EIA test has been approved for distribution by the Chinese State Drug Administration (SDA) to customers that do not require lot release testing.

"Traditional blood testing is expensive, difficult to handle, poses potential risk hazards and can be culturally unacceptable in some parts of the world," stated Anthony Cataldo, executive chairman of Calypte. "Our tests provide a safe, non-invasive and cost-effective alternative with none of the risks associated with blood testing. The agreement with ZYPute is another example of Calypte`s execution of acheivement milestones. We expect our products to play a major role in China`s fight against HIV/AIDS. The agreement does not include our revolutionary Rapid Urine Test, which is anticipated to have a much larger market in China and the rest of the world than the current EIA."

According to a recent report by the United Nations, China could have more than 10 million HIV cases by 2010. China`s health ministry has confirmed over one million cases and a 16% year-over-year increase in the number of people infected. China is now estimated to have Asia`s fourth largest number of people infected with HIV/AIDS. Dr. Luc Montagnier, co-discoverer of HIV-1 and consultant to Calypte, visited with the Chinese government in August 2002 to discuss the increase in the need for continued mass screening for HIV. During the visit, he demonstrated the advantages of urine-based screening and promoted the Calypte product.

Nancy Katz, president and CEO of Calypte, stated, "We have been focused on gaining access to the Chinese market and securing distribution through a commercial distributor. Our choice in ZYPute stemmed from their steadfast belief that the minimum purchase requirements will be exceeded over the term of the agreement. Well, the new deal with China will increase CALY`s revenue by 31% per quarter and that is substantial. They also stated the $3,000,000 over the next 2 years could be more. 31% is a very substantial increase in revenue. We will not see that revenue on this 3rd quarter report but will on the 4th. The 3rd quarter will include the deal with Africa but we still don`t know how much that deal was worth. The more exposer and approvals they get with their product, the faster revenue will grow. I can see this stock breaking $1 easy in 2003. Though their are always risks involved with penny stocks, I feel this one will have a huge return over the next twelve months for those getting in at these prices.
