Partner hin oder her!

Rumour PCCW informal proposal acquire C&W HKT(0008)w/ billions
cash & share swap
(Infocast News) Apple Daily quoted a source that Pacific Century CyberWorks (1186) (PCCW) has submitted an informal acquisition
proposal on C&W HKT (0008) to Cable and Wireless. PCCW will use over $100 billion cash and shares as consideration to fully
acquire all stakes of C&W HKT.
The Sun quoted another source that the liquid fund available to PCCW amounts to US$30 billion (about HK$234 billion). PCCW`s
acquisition of C&W HKT will be a 100% merger and not just acquisition of some stakes of C&W HKT.
Also, several papers stated that Richard Li and Alexander Anthony Arena, Chairman and Managing Director of PCCW respectively,
have flown to Singapore and they are expected to bargain with Singapore Telecommunications.

Pacific Century CyberWorks Takes Stake in Weave Innovations; Deal Represents Another Step Towards PCCW`s Goal of Becoming the Internet Partner of Choice for Businesses in Asia
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2000 1:16 PM
- BusinessWire
SANTA CLARA, Calif. and HONG KONG, Feb 16, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd. ("PCCW"; Reuters: 1186.HK; Bloomberg: 1186), the technology flagship of the Pacific Century Group, today announced a strategic investment in Weave Innovations, the developers and operators of the StoryBox(TM) platform. Introduced at Demo 2000 in Palm Springs, California, the StoryBox Connected Frame and the StoryBox Network(SM) revolutionize viewing and sharing of digital images and personalized content -- with or without a PC.
The relationship is viewed by both companies as strategically significant for the expansion of Weave Innovations` StoryBox Platform into Asia.
Robert Siegel, President and CEO of Weave Innovations, said: "Pacific Century Group has a proven track record for building a variety of businesses in Asia. PCCW`s support of Weave Innovations and the StoryBox platform enables Weave to enter the very large Asian market, in the near future, with greater ease and speed."
Alex Arena, Group Managing Director of Pacific Century CyberWorks, said, "This agreement is in line with our strategy of facilitating the entry of the best international Internet brands into Asia. Weave Innovations` technology enables consumers to share and reprint digital photos with or without a PC - a capability that could be a natural complement to PCCW`s broadband Internet service. We see this as having great potential for commercial success in Asian markets."
About Weave Innovations Started in 1998, Weave Innovations builds products and services that leverage the Internet to enhance the way people communicate with each other. The Weave Innovations management team consists of experienced executives and engineers from storied Silicon Valley-based companies, such as Intel Corporation, Silicon Graphics Inc., and Wink Communications. Investors include Maveron LLC, Eastman Kodak Company, Pacific Century CyberWorks, The Phoenix Partners, Peterson Ventures and Ridge Ventures. About The StoryBox Platform The StoryBox platform, announced at Demo 2000, combines the StoryBox Connected Frame and the simple-to-use StoryBox Network to deliver an entirely new consumer experience. Dramatically simplifying the path from capturing pictures to viewing and sharing them with others, the StoryBox platform creates a direct link from digital and traditional film cameras to a network of connected picture frames. This network revolutionizes viewing and sharing of digital images and personalized content -- with or without a PC.
Fundamentally simplifying the way people share pictures and bring pictures into the home, the StoryBox platform enables consumers to share personal images with friends and family and receive highly personalized information. With the press of the Share! button on the StoryBox Connected Frame, frame owners can send pictures directly to other StoryBox Connected Frames -- no PC required. The modem in the StoryBox Connected Frame doesn`t connect you to the web, it connects you to the people you care about. The StoryBox Connected Frame will be available in North America from select manufacturers later this year at a target retail price of $299 with a minimal monthly service fee.
Bundled with every StoryBox Connected Frame is a set of highly personalized information channels that include rich content from premier providers including E! Online, MSNBC.com, SportsLine.com, Traffic Station and The Weather Channel.

U.S.-listed shares of Telstra

Telstra would buy 49 percent of the future merged entity`s fixed-line and part of the Internet and multimedia services, to be renamed Asia Broadband Networks, the paper said. Telstra said it was unaware of any such deal.

U.S.-listed shares of Cable & Wireless HKT

Although both (008) Cable & Wireless HKT and (1186) Pacific Century Cyberworks opposed to the overall market and fell, we retain our strong buy rating for both counters in the near term after (1186) Pacific Century Cyberworks announced that the company intended to acquired C&W HKT. We treat that this is a win-win solution for both parties. We believe that the prospect on C&W HKT is promising if PCC is success to acquire C&W HKT as PCC has a well-developed network with international technology companies, gaining the benefit from getting the technology from the foreign companies. On the other hand, PCC can also gain benefit as the company can speed up its board-band development business. We recommend investors buying both counters on weakness. Our short-term target price for C&W HKT is HK$28.00, representing a potential upside of 16.91 percent compared with the current trading price of HK$23.95. Our 3-month target price for PCC is at HK$32.00, representing a potential upside of 26.23 percent compared with the current trading price of HK$25.35.

Our 3-month target price for PCC is at HK$32.00, representing a potential upside of 26.23 percent compared with the current trading price of HK$25.35.

PCCW <1186.HK> approaches banks for loan - paper
HONG KONG, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd (PCCW) is approaching banks for a US$10 billion bridging loan to build up its war chest for a possible merger bid for Cable & Wireless HKT <0008.HK>, the Hong Kong Economic Journal said on Tuesday.
The banks included HSBC Investment Bank Asia, BOCI Capital and BNP Hong Kong, the newspaper quoted banking sources as saying.
PCCW raised about US$1.0 billion last week in a share placement and subscription exercise to help finance the possible merger.
The newspaper said PCCW had submitted a merger proposal to Britain`s Cable & Wireless Plc , which holds 54 percent of Cable & Wireless HKT. Many banks were interested in participating in the loan, and BOCI Capital and Bank of China intended to underwrite more than half the total amount, but the loan size and structure had not been finalised yet, it said. PCCW said on Monday it was still in talks with Cable & Wireless Plc about a possible merger between PCCW and Cable & Wireless HKT but no agreement had been reached yet. ((Hong Kong Newsroom +852 2843-6369, Fax +852 2845-0636 hongkong.newsroom@reuters.com)) .

Mal sehen.
