What drives a man to go against the wishes of his countryfolk
and the entire world community - including the presidents of
Russia, China, France and Germany?

How can a professed Christian continue to defy church leaders
worldwide - including the Bishops of Britain and the Pope? How
does he rationalize breaking the commandments of his God, which
clearly prohibit coveting another`s property, theft of their oil,
and mass murder of defenseless populations?

How can he ignore his own generals when they complain, "We`re
advocating a policy that says we will invade another nation that
is not currently attacking us or invading any of our allies."
[Capitol Hill Blue Jan, 22, 2003]

To those who deem it unseemly to count the brick`s on one
man`s load, let us recall that this unelected President is one
brick short of killing what the UN fears could be up to a
half-million people in Iraq. This massacre could easily see
Pakistan`s government - and its 30 to 40 nukes - falling to an
al Qaeda/Taliban majority. Bush`s announced plans to attack
North Korea and Iran have already prompted both countries to
hit the nuclear gas pedal, virtually assuring a "nuclear event".
And his $5 trillion blowout has taken the American economy to
a $2 trillion deficit in two short years. As ignored global
warming triggers Extreme Weather Events, frightened Nobel
price-winning economists warn that GW`s proposed $600 billion
tax cut is "fiscal madness" - "a very serious economic error"
that will collapse the country in exactly the same way the
ex-Soviet Empire went bust buying and deploying so many arms
in so many places. Ditto Imperial Rome.

Are these the acts of a rational person?

Not since Nixon`s famous freak-outs in the White House, which
saw National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger ordering military
commanders to ignore nuclear launch orders from their
Commander-In-Chief, is it so urgent that we examine a president`s
cognitive capacities. [The Trial of Henry Kissinger]

It might be useful to scrutinize the following findings. While
everyone "goes nuts" from time to time, the salient question is
whether traits described below dominate and drive today`s
presidential decisions. Is a man called by other government reps,
"an idiot" "an imbecile" "dangerously incompetent" and "a moron"
competent, capable and qualified to direct America`s unchallenged
military might?

Read on. If you dare.


PATTERN RECOGNITION

"Is The `President` Nuts?" asks Carol Wolman, M.D. "Many
people, inside and especially outside this country, believe
that the American president is nuts, and is taking the world
on a suicidal path." [Counterpunch Oct. 2, 2002]

A board-certified psychiatrist in practice for 30 years,
Dr. Wolman feels compelled to understand the "psychopathology"
of man "under tremendous pressure from both his family/junta,
and from the world at large." Dr. Wolman wonders if GW is
suffering from Antisocial Personality Disorder, as described
in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Fourth Edition:

"There is a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation
of the rights of others:
1) failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful
behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are
grounds for arrest;
2) deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases,
or conning others for personal profit or pleasure;
5) reckless disregard for safety of self or others;
7) lack of remorse by being indifferent to or rationalizing
having hurt, mistreated or stolen from others."


DRY DRUNK

GW Bush is highly regarded for "kicking" the twin demons of
cocaine and alcohol addiction. If he is still off both wagons
- and there is no proof that isn`t - such a triumph, encouraged
and aided by his wife, is commendable.

When probing the mysteries of GW`s brain chemistry, a key
point to ponder is that damage done to brain cells from drug
abuse is permanent and irreversible.

Quaker and university professor Katherine van Wormer co-authored
the definitive, 2002, Addiction Treatment. This expert writes
that "George W. Bush manifests all the classic patterns of what
alcoholics in recovery call `the dry drunk`. His behavior is
consistent with being brought on by years of heavy drinking and
possible cocaine use." [Counterpunch Oct. 11, 2002]

"Dry drunk," explains the professor, "is a slang term used by
members and supporters of Alcoholics Anonymous and substance
abuse counselors to describe the recovering alcoholic who is no
longer drinking - one who is dry, but whose thinking is clouded."

Such an individual is `dry` but not truly sober. Such
individuals tend to go to overboard. A good example of Bush`
"polarized thinking" is his call for "crusades" based on
"infinite justice" for "evil-doers" comprising an "axis of evil".

Bush`s "obsessive repetition" also remind this professor,
"of many of the recovering alcoholics/addicts I had treated."
Van Wormer worriers, "His power, in fact, is such that if he
collapses into paranoia, a large part of the world will collapse
with him."

Paranoia? Impatience? Rigid judgmental outlook?
Grandiose behavior? Childish behavior?
Irresponsible behavior? Irrational rationalization?
Projection? Overreaction?

- these are all "dry drunk" traits.

Van Wormer observers that Bush`s pompous pledge:
"We must be prepared to stop rogue states and their terrorist
clients before they are able to threaten or use weapons of mass
destruction" is a projection from the world`s leading rogue state
preparing to attack with nuclear weapons.

"Bush`s tendency to dichotomize reality" should be emphasized.
Prof. van Wormer describes this is as either/or reasoning -
"either you are with us or against us". A White House spokesperson
puts it this way: "The President considers this nation to be at
war, and, as such, considers any opposition to his policies to be
no less than an act of treason.``[Capitol Hill Blue Jan, 22, 2003]


BUSH`S BINGES - HISTORY IMPACTS THE PRESENT

Bush`s binges were legendary. Van Wormer describes "years of
binge drinking starting in college, at least one conviction for
DUI in 1976 in Maine, and one arrest before that for a drunken
episode involving theft of a Christmas wreath."
She adds:

"The Bush biography reveals the story of a boy named for his
father, sent to the exclusive private school in the East where
his father`s reputation as star athlete and later war hero were
still remembered. The younger George`s achievements were dwarfed
in the school`s memory of his father. Athletically he could not
achieve his father`s laurels, being smaller and perhaps less
strong. His drinking bouts and lack of intellectual gifts held
him back as well. His military record was mediocre as compared
to his father`s as well. [He went AWOL] "

In Fortunate Son, Bush himself explained: "Alcohol began to
compete with my energies ... I`d lose focus". Though he once
said he couldn`t remember a day he hadn`t had a drink, he
quickly added the giveaway phrase that he didn`t believe he was
"clinically alcoholic".

Van Wormer notes that "Bush drank heavily for over 20 years
until he made the decision to abstain at age 40. About this
time he became a `born again Christian` - going as usual from
one extreme to the other." When asked in an interview about
his reported cocaine use, he answered reasonably, "I`m not
going to talk about what I did 20 to 30 years ago".

One motive driving Dubya could be his need "to prove himself
to his father - to achieve what his father failed to do - to
finish the job of the Gulf War, to get the `evildoer` Saddam."
Adds van Wormer, "His drive to finish his father`s battles is
of no small significance, psychologically."


BRAIN DAMAGE

According to Van Wormer, "scientists can now observe changes
that occur in the brain as a result of heavy alcohol and other
drug abuse. Some of these changes may be permanent."

Van Wormer characterizes this damage as "barely noticeable
but meaningful." Researchers have found that brain chemistry
irregularities caused by long bouts of drinking or drug abuse
cause "messages in one part of the brain to become stuck there.
This leads to maddening repetition of thoughts."

One of these powerful "stuck" thoughts, says van Wormer, is
that "President Bush seems unduly focused upon getting revenge
on Saddam Hussein (`He tried to kill my Dad`), leading the country
and the world into war, accordingly."

Grandiosity is another major trait of former addicts brain-damaged
by their addiction. Bush has reversed the successful, five-decade
old U.S. policy of containment and no first strikes. Now he says,
Americans can attack anyone, anywhere at any time with any weapons
of their choosing - including banned cluster bomb munitions,
radioactive explosives and nuclear bombs.


AN AGENT OF ARMAGEDDON?
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, a person
suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder, "Has a grandiose
sense of self-importance-exaggerates achievements and talents,
expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate
achievements."

Sound familiar?

This personality is preoccupied with fantasies of power and
being loved. Such a person requires "automatic compliance". He
or she is "exploitative" of others, "lacks empathy, is unwilling
to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others."
And also "shows arrogant, haughty behavior or attitudes."

"This set of characteristics," says Dr. Wolman, not too
reassuringly, "may describe Rumsfeld and Cheney better than Dubya."
For those who, like Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stieglitz, warn
that Bush "has been captured by a small group of ideologues,"
Dependent Personality Disorder describes someone who "has
difficulty making everyday decisions without an excessive amount
of advice and reassurance from others." [CBC Feb. 10, 2003]

>From a Jungian perspective, writes Dr. Wolman, "Dubya may be
identifying with an archetype - something out of Revelations,
perhaps, whereby he sees himself as an instrument of God`s will
to bring about Armageddon." Concurs Katherine van Wormer, "To
fight evil, Bush is ready to take on the world, in almost a
Biblical sense."


A PRESIDENTIAL PATHOLOGY

Is Bush`s belligerence bent on securing another oil fix?
Katherine van Wormer believes that a Portland peace protestor`s
sign, "Drunk on Power" nailed it. Says this quiet Quaker, "The
drive for power can be an unquenchable thirst, addictive in
itself."

Senator William Fulbright agrees. His bestseller, The Arrogance
of Power defined power politics as the pursuit of power. "The
causes and consequences of war may have more to do with pathology
than with politics," Fulbright wrote.

A key "dry drunk" trait is impatience. Bush, who often
describes himself as "a patient man", is not. Just four weeks
after inspectors went into Iraq, he called for obliterating
Baghdad. "If we wait for threats to fully materialize", Bush
pointed out to West Pointers, "we will have waited too long".
Translations: It`s okay to attack projections of our own fearful
imaginings - in case those phantom threats someday become real.

Alan Bisbort`s "Dry Drunk - Is Bush Making a Cry for Help?"
appeared in American Politics Journal. Bisbort believes that
Bush`s "incoherence" when speaking away from prepared scripts
is a classic sign of addicted brain damage.

For Bisbort, another "dry drunk" tip-off is Dubya`s irritability
with anyone who dares disagree with him - including Germany`s
new leader, who insists he is opposing Bush`s folly in Iraq as
a concerned long-time friend of America. (Schroeder`s wife is
American.)

Another "Dry drunk" sign says van Wormer, is Dubya`s "dangerous
obsessing about only one thing (Iraq) to the exclusion of all
other things."

Van Wormer`s bottom line prognosis: "George W. Bush seems to
possess the traits characteristic of addictive persons who still
have the thought patterns that accompany substance abuse. The
fact that some residual effects from his earlier substance abuse
- however slight - might cloud the U.S. President`s thinking and
judgment is frightening, however, in the context of the current
global crisis."

DON`T LAUGH

The Toronto Star recounts how NYU author and media critic Mark
Crispin Miller attempted to catalogue GW`s verbal gaffes. Some
favorites: "The vast majority of our imports come from outside
the country."

"If we don`t succeed, we run the risk of failure."

"The future will be better tomorrow."

"He meant it for a laugh," wrote the Star. "Not now."

The author of Boxed In: The Culture of TV believes "Bush is not
an imbecile. He`s not a puppet. I think that Bush is a sociopathic
personality. I think he`s incapable of empathy. He has an inordinate
sense of his own entitlement, and he`s a very skilled manipulator.
And in all the snickering about his alleged idiocy, this is what
a lot of people miss."

Miller`s judgment - that an unelected president might suffer
from a clinical personality disorder - is much heavier than being
called the global village idiot. "He has no trouble speaking
off the cuff when he`s speaking punitively, when he`s talking
about violence, when he`s talking about revenge. When he struts
and thumps his chest, his syntax and grammar are fine," Miller
mentions. "It`s only when he leaps into the wild blue yonder of
compassion, or idealism, or altruism, that he makes these hilarious
mistakes."

Bush even has trouble repeating comforting clichés. "Fool me
once, shame ... shame on ... you," Long, uncomfortable pause.
"Fool me - can`t get fooled again!"

While the world was laughing, Miller saw something darker.
"What`s revealing about this is that Bush could not say, `Shame
on me` to save his life. That`s a completely alien idea to him.
This is a guy who is absolutely proud of his own inflexibility
and rectitude," wrote Miller.

Miller says that Bush saying, "I know how hard it is to put
food on your family" is not `cause he`s stupid, but "because he
doesn`t care about people who can`t put food on the table."

When Bush is envisioning "a foreign-handed foreign policy,"
Miller contends it`s because he can`t keep his focus on things
that mean nothing to him. "When he tries to talk about what this
country stands for, or about democracy, he can`t do it," Miller
observes.

According to Miller, this is why GW is so closely watched by
his handlers. "Not because he`ll say something stupid," the Star
paraphrased, "but because he`ll overindulge in the language of
violence and punishment at which he excels."

"He`s a very angry guy, a hostile guy," Miller says. "He`s much
like Nixon. So they`re very, very careful to choreograph every
move he makes. They don`t want him anywhere near protestors,
because he would lose his temper." Adds this media expert, "It
would be a grave mistake to just play him for laughs."

DEPRESSION CAN BE DANGEROUSLY DEPRESSING

Confronted by a man who will not listen to anyone but a few
"chickenhawks" urging worldwide war, why shouldn`t we feel
depressed? Not surprisingly, we do.

Seventy percent of U.S. pastors constantly fight depression.
Right now, almost three million Canadians are seriously depressed.
(Multiply by four or five for approximate U.S. figures.) We
can`t blame GW for this. Or the fact that suicide is the 3rd
leading cause of death in 15 to 24 year olds. But as the man
responsible for perpetrating a worldwide bummer, George isn`t

If it`s politically incorrect to ask these questions, how
"correct" is it to launch 800 cruise missiles and thousands
of one-ton bombs on a captive urban population already suffering
the ravages of deliberately imposed hunger and disease?


CHOKA COLA?

Another big clue to Dubya`s displays of dementia comes in
"photo-ops" showing him slugging back diet Coke with other
Aspartame addicts, like Chicago`s mayor Richard Daley. Their
beet red faces spell either embarrassment over Bush`s hijacking
of America, or aspartame poisoning. [Chicago Sun Times, Sept.
27, 2002]

According to Carol Guilford, an Aspartame expert and support
worker, the President-Select`s "pretzel" pratfall was most likely
an Aspartame seizure. Bush, like Carter, Al Gore and millions
of Americans, is addicted to this constant caffeine hit. Among
the FDA`s listed 92 symptoms for Aspartame poisoning are:
"Difficulty Swallowing", "Fainting" and "Unconsciousness".

Bush`s facial lesions, removed as a result of "Too much sun"
is another sign of Aspartame poisoning. So was his recent knee
surgery: Aspartame depletes synovial fluid lubricating the joints.

Would you drink 6 to 12 cans of formaldehyde a day? It turns
out that methanol in Aspartame converts to formaldehyde in the
tissues. As Guildford wrote to USN Captain Eleanor Marino,
Physician to the President (Feb. 21, 2002): 10% of a

200mg can of diet soda is straight methanol wood alcohol!
Methanol is such a gross cumulative poison, the EPA`s limit for
drinking water is 7.8 mg daily. For serious addicts like Bush,
the methanol intake can exceed 32 times the EPA`s recommended
limit..

Now the punch line: Clinical case studies shows that, among
other symptoms, Aspartame ingestion results in "mind fog", feeling
"unreal", poor memory, confusion, anxiety, irritability, depression,
mania, and slurred speech. [Neurology 1994]

Alcohol-related brain damage is not helped by chugging
formaldehyde. James Turner, consumer protection lawyer and author
of The Chemical Feast learned that an Oct. 1980 FDA inquiry found
that the formaldehyde formed by Aspartame actually eats microscopic
holes and triggers tumors in the brain.

That finding banned Aspartame from the food supply. But three
months later, Searle CEO Donald Rumsfeld told that pharma giant`s
sales staff he would get Aspartame approved pronto. The next month,
the FDA commissioner was replaced by Dr. Arthur Hayes. In Nov. 1983
the FDA approved aspartame for soft drinks. Under fire for accepting
corporate bribes, Hayes went to work for Searle`s public-relations
firm. Searle lawyer Robert Shapiro coined the name NutraSweet.
Monsanto bought Searle. Rumsfeld received $12 million for his help.
Shapiro now heads Monsanto.

The same "revolving door" swings wide for arms makers and the
oil mafia. The Big Question is: Why hasn`t Dick warned George that
the diet drinks he`s swilling are eating his brain and making him
crazy?

Crazy? Am I calling the President-Select of the Excited States
crazy? Not me. As a journalist, I can only point out that published
medical evidence goes frighteningly far in explaining GW`s behavior.
For certain, this good ol` boy should go in for a brain scan before
being allowed to command more firepower than the next 11 nations
combined. If George W. Bush is not crazy - he`s sure acting like it.

Strange.... the hate of the Germans for an American president who intends to do for the Iraqis what the Americans once did for the Germans - liberate them from a tyrannical regime.

The Germans did not experience the Allied victory in WW II as a liberation. Rather, they associate it with their own suffering (bombardment of German cities), defeat and humiliation.

However, for the main victims of Nazi oppression, the Jews (as well as the Poles), the Allied victory meant liberation from Nazi tyranny, and they thank the Americans now by supporting them in Iraq. They understand what this war is all about.

Every year 10000 Iraqis disappear in the prisons and torture chambers of Saddam Hussein. The Germans do not want to know about this hecatomb and prefer to wallow in their own self-pity and cultivate their old anti-British and anti-American feelings. "Die Anglo-Amerikaner sind wieder da!"

The Germans have always loved conspiracy theories, and they are among the most fervent believers in the "Krieg für Öl" myth. In fact, this myth was first invented by German propagandists under Hitler, as pointed out by Dan
Diver in his book "Feinbild Amerika". Then as now, the Americans and the British were accused of waging an imperialist war for economic interests and to assuage their "greed for oil".

It does not occur to any of the German pacifists and appeasers, however, that if American policy with regard to Iraq was dictated by an overriding interest in Iraqi oil, America would long ago have made peace with Saddam and signed lucrative oil contracts with the Iraqis, exactly as the French have done. To imagine that the Americans would spend hundreds of billions of dollars and squander the lives of hundreds of soldiers in a war for Iraqi oil that they could obtain by peaceful means is absurb.

Once again, the Germans are on the wrong side of history.
Iraq will be liberated by brave American soldiers, while
the Germans and French have cowered, criticised, and lent moral support to the tyrant Saddam Hussein.

Germans do not want to learn from their own history. Instead they run around parrotting worn-out slogans like "Krieg ist keine Lösung" or "Krieg ist immer ein Versagen". They love to compare Bush with Hitler, the president of a democratic country who has already liberated Afghanistan from the medieval tyranny of the Taliban.

Do not Iraqis deserve the same freedom and the same prosperity that the Germans now enjoy thanks to American military power?

there was no need to liberate Germany from the nazi terror.
The Wehrmacht was already looking foreward to remove
this strange nazis with the Austrian Fuehrer on top of it.
It would have been only a matter of some months.

The liberation of the US. was rather a big killing of civil
inhabitans and a sensless distruction of hunderts of German citys.

There is nothing to be proud of, look inside your country,
you are aggressive inside the US and you are aggressiv
in the rest of the world.

Most of the Irakis who died in the last years,
died because of the US embargo.

Es gibt so etwas wie einen Urzweifel an der militärischen Berufung der Vereinigten Staaten. Das spektakuläre Aufgebot ökonomischer Ressourcen im Zweiten Weltkrieg kann über die mäßigen Leistungen der US-Armee auf den Schlachtfeldern nicht hinwegtäuschen...

Die strategische Wahrheit zum Zweiten Weltkrieg ist einfach: Er wurde an der Ostfront von Rußland gewonnen. Die russischen Opfer an Menschenleben vor, während und nach Stalingrad machten es möglich ... In allen Phasen des Krieges agierten, das hat der britische Militärhistoriker Liddell Hart überzeugend dargelegt, die amerikanischen Truppen langsam, bürokratisch und ineffektiv, und zwar besonders gemessen an ihrer Übermacht bei materiellen und menschlichen Ressourcen. Wo immer möglich, übertrugen sie Operationen, die eine gewisse Opferbereitschaft verlangten, alliierten Kontingenten ... In Afghanistan praktizierten die Amerikaner wieder die »Methode«, für jede Operation Stammesführer anzuheuern und zu bezahlen. Es ist das alte, in Abständen immer wieder praktizierte Verfahren. Mit dieser Methode ähnelt Amerika weder Rom noch Athen, sondern gleicht eher Karthago, das Söldner aus Gallien und von den Balearen anwarb. Die amerikanischen B-52-Bomber wären demnach das Äquivalent zu den karthagischen Elefanten, aber die Rolle des großen Feldherrn Hannibal ist nicht besetzt...

Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg enthüllte jeder Schritt, der die amerikanische Armee in die Nähe einer Konfrontation mit dem wahren Sieger zu Lande brachte, mit der Sowjetunion, wie schwach Amerika als Militärmacht tatsächlich war. In Korea überzeugte es nur halb, in Vietnam überhaupt nicht, ein direktes Kräftemessen mit der Roten Armee fand zum Glück nicht statt. Der Golfkrieg wurde gegen einen Mythos gewonnen: die irakische Armee, militärischer Arm eines unterentwickelten Landes mit 20 Millionen Einwohnern.

In letzter Zeit hat sich das Konzept des Krieges ohne Tote, zumindest ohne amerikanische Opfer, in den Vordergrund geschoben, und damit wird die Asymmetrie auf die Spitze getrieben. Mit diesem Konzept wird die traditionelle amerikanische Schwäche bei der Bodenkriegführung festgeschrieben und verstärkt... (S. 108f.)

Was ist der Irak? Ein ölproduzierendes Land, das von einem Diktator beherrscht wird, dessen Bedrohungspotential nur von lokaler Bedeutung ist. Die Umstände der Aggression gegen Kuwait liegen im dunkeln, wobei nicht auszuschließen ist, daß die USA Saddam Hussein zu seinem Abenteuer bewußt ermuntert haben, indem sie signalisierten, sie hätten gegen die Annexion Kuwaits nichts einzuwenden. Obwohl diese Frage zweitrangig ist, kann als gesichert gelten, daß die Befreiung Kuwaits die USA auf eine weitere Option festgelegt hat: vornehmlich den Konflikt mit Mächten zu suchen, die über geradezu lächerliche Streitkräfte verfügen und mit dem Begriff »Schurkenstaat« belegt werden können, was auf deren Boshaftigkeit und unbedeutende Größe anspielt, um so Amerikas Stärke zu »demonstrieren«. Der Gegner muß schwach sein: In diesem Zusammenhang sei darauf hingewiesen, daß die USA das noch immer kommunistische, aber zu Recht reale militärische Potentiale symbolisierende Vietnam in Frieden lassen. Die übertriebene Darstellung der irakischen Bedrohung - angeblich der Welt viertgrößte Armee! - war wohl nur der Auftakt zu einer ganzen Serie von Inszenierungen, bei denen der Welt angebliche Bedrohungen vorgeführt werden.
Der Krieg in Afghanistan, eine Folge der Anschläge vom 11. September, hat die USA in der Entscheidung zugunsten dieser Option bestärkt. Einmal mehr stürzten sich die amerikanischen Führer in einen Konflikt, den sie nicht vorhergesehen hatten, der aber ihre zentrale Taktik bestätigt, die man als theatralischen Mikromilitarismus bezeichnen könnte: zu zeigen, daß Amerika in der Welt gebraucht wird, indem man unbedeutende Gegner langsam stranguliert. Im Fall Afghanistans gelang diese Demonstration allerdings nur unvollkommen. Sie führte der Welt zwar vor Augen, daß jedes Land, das nicht über eine funktionstüchtige Luftabwehr oder über nukleare Abschreckung verfügt, dem Terror aus der Luft auf Gedeih und Verderb ausgeliefert ist. Aber die Unfähigkeit der amerikanischen Streitkräfte zum Landkrieg rief zugleich das grundlegende militärische Manko einer Supermacht in Erinnerung, die von lokalen Stammeschefs und vor allem vom guten Willen der Russen abhing, die dank ihrer geographischen Nähe allein in der Lage waren, die Nordallianz rasch zu bewaffnen. Als Ergebnis konnten weder Mullah Omar noch Bin Laden gefaßt werden. Die lokalen Kriegsherren überstellten ihren amerikanischen Auftraggebern nur ein paar unbedeutende Pechvögel, die auf dem Militärstützpunkt Guantanamo auf Kuba interniert wurden...


Die Fixierung auf den Islam

Die Verteilung der amerikanischen Streitkräfte auf der Welt offenbart die reale Struktur des Weltreichs oder seiner Überbleibsel, wenn man davon ausgeht, daß sich dieses eher im Zerfall als im Aufstieg befindet. Die meisten für den Auslandseinsatz bestimmten Truppen sind noch immer in Deutschland, Japan und Korea stationiert. Die Einrichtung von Stützpunkten seit 1990 in Ungarn, Bosnien, Afghanistan und Usbekistan bedeutet rein rechnerisch keine dramatische Veränderung mit Blick auf die allgemeine Ausrichtung, die ein Relikt aus dem Kampf gegen den Kommunismus darstellt. Aus dieser Zeit sind als erklärte Gegner nur Kuba und Nordkorea übriggeblieben. Diese völlig unbedeutenden Staaten werden unermüdlich stigmatisiert, allerdings ohne daß auf diese Geißelungen jemals eine Militäraktion erfolgt wäre.

Inzwischen konzentrieren die USA das Gros ihrer Aktivitäten im Namen des »Kampfs gegen den Terror«, dieser letzten offiziellen Form des "theatralischen Mikromilitarismus", auf die islamische Welt. Die Fixierung Amerikas auf diese Religion, die sich faktisch mit einer Region deckt, läßt sich mit drei Faktoren erklären. Jeder von ihnen verweist auf eine weitere Schwäche der USA - die ideologische, wirtschaftliche und militärische -, was deren imperiale Ressourcen angeht:

- Der Niedergang der universalistischen Ideologie führt in den USA verstärkt zu Intoleranz bezüglich der Stellung der Frau im Islam.

- Der dramatische Verlust an wirtschaftlicher Effizienz hat die Obsession zur Folge, sich das arabische Öl sichern zu müssen.

- Angesichts der militärischen Unzulänglichkeit wird die islamische Welt, die militärisch besonders schwach ist, zur bevorzugten Zielscheibe. (S. 170-172)


Eine kurzfristige Lösung: die Schwachen angreifen

Abgesehen von allen vorgeblichen Motiven der Vereinigten Staaten - ... die Bedeutung des Öls - ergibt sich die Entscheidung, die islamische Welt zur Zielscheibe und zur bevorzugten Bühne einer amerikanischen Militärinszenierung zu machen, ganz einfach aus der Schwäche der arabischen Welt. Die Demonstration der »strategischen Allmacht« der Vereinigten Staaten ist de facto billig...

Die Region eignet sich ... ideal als Bühne, auf der die Vereinigten Staaten mit einer an Videospiele erinnernden Leichtigkeit »Siege« erringen können. Die amerikanische Militärführung, die um die Unfähigkeit ihrer Soldaten am Boden weiß, hat die Niederlage in Vietnam vollkommen verinnerlicht: So erinnert sie bei jeder Gelegenheit daran - ob mit dem Lapsus eines Generals, der Afghanistan mit Vietnam verwechselt, oder mit ängstlichen Warnungen vor einem Einsatz von Bodentruppen -, daß die USA einen Krieg nur gegen einen schwachen Gegner führen können, dem zudem eine wirksame Luftabwehr fehlt. Mit der Wahl eines schwachen Kontrahenten, mit der sie ganz auf militärische Ungleichheit setzen, knüpfen die amerikanischen Streitkräfte übrigens an eine ganz bestimmte, an Diskriminierung gekoppelte Militärtradition an - an die Kriege gegen die Indianer.

Die antiarabische Option der Vereinigten Staaten ist eine sehr bequeme Lösung. Sie ergibt sich aus vielen unterschiedlichen, objektiven Parametern, vor allem aber aus der Notwendigkeit für Amerika, den Anschein eines imperialen Wirkens aufrechtzuerhalten. Dabei resultiert sie aber nicht aus einer überlegten und an zentraler Stelle gefällten Entscheidung, die darauf abzielt, die Chancen des amerikanischen Weltreichs auf lange Sicht zu optimieren. Im Gegenteil. Die führenden Persönlichkeiten der Vereinigten Staaten gehen stets den Weg des geringsten Widerstands. Jedesmal wählen sie die unmittelbar einfachste Aktion aus, die in wirtschaftlicher, militärischer und sogar planerischer Hinsicht möglichst geringe Investitionen erfordert. Man spielt den Arabern übel mit, weil sie militärisch schwach sind, weil sie das Öl haben und weil der »Mythos Öl« es ermöglicht, das Wesentliche zu kaschieren: die umfassende Abhängigkeit der USA von der Versorgung mit sämtlichen Gütern. Man spielt den Arabern auch deshalb übel mit, weil sie in der amerikanischen Innenpolitik keine einflußreiche Lobby haben und weil man in Amerika nicht mehr in der Lage ist, universalistisch und egalitär zu denken.

Wenn wir die Vorgänge verstehen wollen, müssen wir uns von der Vorstellung von einem Amerika, das nach einem globalen, rational begründeten und systematisch umgesetzten Plan handelt, unbedingt verabschieden. Zwar läßt die amerikanische Außenpolitik durchaus eine Linie erkennen, aber die folgt immer dem geringsten Widerstand, ähnlich einem Bach, der abwärts fließt, sich mit anderen Bächen zu einem Fluß oder Strom vereinigt und schließlich ins Meer oder in den Ozean mündet. Der Bachlauf hat folglich eine Richtung, obwohl hinter ihm keinerlei Überlegung und kontrollierte Aktion stecken...

Das amerikanische Gebaren am Golf, die Attacken gegen den Irak, die Drohungen gegen Korea und die Provokationen gegenüber China sind alle Teil der amerikanischen Strategie des theatralischen Mikromilitarismus. Diese Possen amüsieren eine Zeitlang die Medien und verblüffen die Regierungen der Verbündeten. Aber die Grundzüge einer realistischen amerikanischen Strategie sucht man vergeblich: Wie sollen die Kontrolle der USA über die beiden industriell produktiven Pole der Triade, über Europa und Japan, erhalten und China und der Iran durch eine wohlwollende Haltung neutralisiert werden? Und wie soll der einzige reale militärische Gegner ausgeschaltet werden: Rußland? (S. 179-182)

Der Frieden mit Rußland und der islamischen Welt

Im Gegensatz zu den Vereinigten Staaten hat Europa keine besonderen Probleme mit seiner Außenwelt. Es unterhält Handelsbeziehungen zu den übrigen Staaten der Erde, kauft dort notwendige Rohstoffe und Energie ein und bezahlt die Importe mit den Gewinnen aus seinen Exporten. Sein langfristiges strategisches Ziel ist folglich der Frieden. Dagegen wird die Außenpolitik der Vereinigten Staaten in immer stärkerem Maß von zwei Hauptkonflikten bestimmt, wobei die Gegner unmittelbare Nachbarn Europas sind. Der eine, Rußland, steht der amerikanischen Vorherrschaft als wichtigstes Hindernis entgegen, kann von den USA aber wegen seiner Stärke nicht aus dem Weg geräumt werden. Der andere Gegner, die islamische Welt, ist ein Bühnenrivale, der lediglich der Inszenierung der amerikanischen Militärmacht dient. Wegen des europäischen Interesses am Frieden, insbesondere mit den beiden wichtigsten Nachbarregionen, stehen die vorrangigen strategischen Ziele des Kontinents inzwischen in einem radikalen Gegensatz zu den amerikanischen Prioritäten.

Daß die Golfstaaten zur Versorgung ihrer wachsenden Bevölkerungen ihr Öl verkaufen müssen, sichert Europa gegen ein Embargo ab. Allerdings kann Europa die Unruhe, welche die Vereinigten Staaten und Israel in der arabischen Welt stiften, nicht auf Dauer hinnehmen. Die wirtschaftliche Realität legt nahe, daß der arabische Raum in eine Sphäre der Kooperation eintreten muß, die sich um Europa zentriert und die USA weitgehend ausschließt.

A CASE FOR WAR
I will not attempt to explain the reasons for attacking Iraq because Iraq is part of a bigger picture, and the attack there will be one battle in a much longer war. Trying to understand one particular battle without the context of the larger war is an exercise in futility. (By analogy: what excuse is there in 1942 for the US to attack Vichy France in Morocco? Vichy France wasn`t our enemy; Germany and Italy were. Taken out of the context of the larger war, the Torch landings in Africa make little sense. It`s only when you look at the bigger picture of the whole war that you can understand them.)
We must attack Iraq. We must totally conquer the nation. Saddam must be removed from power, and killed if possible, and the Baath party must be shattered.
But Saddam isn`t our enemy. bin Laden (may he burn in hell) is not our enemy. Iraq isn`t our enemy. al Qaeda isn`t our enemy. The Taliban weren`t our enemies. They are merely symptoms of decay.
In most wars, there`s a government or core organization which you can identify as the enemy. It isn`t always a single person; in World War II it was Hitler and Mussolini in Europe, but it wasn`t Tojo in Japan. Tojo was deposed in 1944, but the war went on. It also wasn`t Hirohito; he mostly kept his hands off of policy. Still, it was the Japanese government, and that could still be understood.
But in this war there is no single government or small group of them, no man, no organization. Our enemy is a culture which is deeply diseased.
It`s really difficult to exactly delineate who our enemies are, but they number in millions. They`re Arab and Muslim, but not every Arab is among them, and most Muslims are not.
But even to discuss it in these terms is to cross the boundaries of political correctness. Not that I care, but it isn`t politically possible for our leaders to say things like these, which makes the political wrangling all the more difficult. I think that they know what I`m about to say, and I at least am free to say what I believe whether others find it offensive or racist.
Islam is larger than greater Arabia, and the majority of Muslims are not Arab. But in the beginning, Islam was both a religion and a political movement. The Qur`an is a source of moral teachings for everyday life, telling people how to live and how to act towards one another. But it`s also a manual for conquest, describing how to face enemies, how to fight, how to treat those who have been conquered, how to treat prisoners, how to treat enemy soldiers.
It lays a dual obligation on Muslims: to live a good life and to spread Islam to the entire world, by any means necessary. All successful widespread religions are evangelistic to a greater or lesser extent (with Judaism being the notable exception), but I know of no other major religion whose holy teachings include instructions for how to go to war to spread the faith.
Until Mohammed, the Arab tribes were divided and spent most of their time fighting one another. The great achievement of Mohammed was to unite the Arabs and face them outwards, strengthened and given will by his new religion. And for two hundred years, nothing could stand in their way; they created one of the great empires in the history of the world which was bounded on the south by the Sahara, on the west by the Atlantic ocean, on the north by Christendom, and on the east by the Hindu nations. Extending from Spain to Iran, from Turkey to Egypt it was much larger and more powerful than was the Roman Empire before it, and it lasted longer. Within its borders art and science and poetry and architecture flourished.
But like all empires, it eventually fell. Unlike other empires, this was against the word of God, for the Qur`an says that Islam will eventually dominate the entire world. In reality, it`s been in retreat for more than three hundred years, and its decline became far more precipitous with the collapse of the Ottomans. Once-great Arab nations became little more than colonies for heathen Europeans, or economic dependents of America.
Our enemy is those who inherit the culture and heritage of that empire. Not everyone within the empire`s physical realm now partakes of that culture, but many do.
I am having a difficult time coming up with a pithy term for our enemy. It`s hard. It isn`t really greater Arabia. It certainly isn`t Islam. Islamic fundamentalism is a symptom of it, not the core. Arab nationalism and imperialism is also a symptom of it, not the core. Each of those can and does exist without the other, but they`re both expressions of the real enemy we face, something deeper than that.
To refer to it as Arab nostalgia is wrong, for many of those within the body of our enemy inherit the beliefs and dogma which make them our enemies without knowing where they came from. They aren`t necessarily traditionalists, for the same reason, though that`s perhaps closer.
I`m afraid I`m going to have to use the partly-fallacious term "Arab culture", accepting that not all Arab culture is our enemy and not all Arabs are among our enemies.
Our enemy holds to a traditional belief, a traditional culture. Islam is a core piece of that, but it isn`t the whole thing, and not everyone who believes in Islam is part of the enemy. Our enemy is the majority of the people who live in what we think of as the large Arab nations, plus certain other groups. Our enemy is concentrated in Egypt, Libya, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Syria, plus the Palestinians are part of it. There are lesser concentrations of our enemy in Morocco, Algeria, Yemen, Oman and (non-Arab) Pakistan.
And Iran is, as usual, a complicated aspect of it. While not being Arab, it is closer culturally to the Arabs, and to a great extent our enemy also holds sway there. The traditionalists and theocrats in Iran are part of our enemy, even though not being Arab, because Persian Iran was a key part of the original Arab/Islamic empire, and still retains much of that culture.
The problem with our enemy`s culture is that in the 20th century it was revealed as being an abject failure. By any rational calculation, it could not compete, and not simply because the deck was stacked against it. The problem was more fundamental; the culture itself contained the elements of its own failure.
The only Arab nations which have prospered have done so entirely because of the accident of mineral wealth. Using money from export of oil, they imported a high tech infrastructure. They drive western cars. They use western cell phones. They built western high-rise steel frame buildings. They created superhighways and in every way implemented the trappings of western prosperity.
Or rather, they paid westerners to create all those things for them. They didn`t build or create any of it themselves. It`s all parasitic. And they also buy the technical skill to keep it running. The technological infrastructure of Saudi Arabia (to take an example) is run by a small army of western engineers and technicians and managers who are paid well, and who live in isolation, and who keep it all working. If they all leave, the infrastructure will collapse. Saudi Arabia does not have the technical skill to run it, or the ability to produce the replacement parts which would be needed. It`s all a sham, and they know it. Everything they have which looks like modern culture was purchased. They themselves do not have the ability to produce, or even to operate, any of it.
The diseased culture of our enemy suffers from all seven of the deep flaws Ralph Peters identifies as condemning nations to failure in the modern world. Peters makes a convincing case that there is a correlation approaching unity between the extent to which a nation or culture suffers from these flaws and its inability to succeed in the 21st century.
He lists them as follows:
Restrictions on the free flow of information.
The subjugation of women.
Inability to accept responsibility for individual or collective failure.
The extended family or clan as the basic unit of social organization.
Domination by a restrictive religion.
A low valuation of education.
Low prestige assigned to work.
And carrying all seven of these, our enemy is trying to compete in the 21st century footrace with both feet cast into buckets of concrete. They are profoundly handicapped by the very values that they hold most dear and that they believe make them what they are.
The nations and the peoples within the zone of our enemy`s culture are complete failures. Their economies are disasters. They make no contribution to the advance of science or engineering. They make no contribution to art or culture. They have no important diplomatic power. They are not respected. Most of their people are impoverished and miserable and filled with resentment, and those who are not impoverished are living a lie.
They hate us. They hate us because our culture is everything theirs is not. Our culture is vibrant and fecund; our economies are successful. Our achievements are magnificent. Our engineering and science are advancing at breathtaking speed. Our people are fat and happy (relatively speaking). We are influential, we are powerful, we are wealthy. "We" are the western democracies, but in particular "we" are the United States, which is the most successful of the western democracies by a long margin. America is the most successful nation in the history of the world, economically and technologically and militarily and even culturally.
Our culture as exported is condemned as being lowbrow in many places, but it`s hard to deny how pervasive and influential it is. Baywatch was total dreck, but it was also the most successful syndicated television program around the world in history, racking up truly massive audiences each week.
Our culture is seductive on every level; those elsewhere who are exposed to it find it attractive. It isn`t always "high culture"; but some of it is, and with the world revolution in telecommunications it`s impossible for anyone in the world to avoid seeing it and being exposed to it.
Nor can anyone ignore our technology, which is definitely not lowbrow, nor our scientific achievements.
We`re everything that they think they should be, everything they once were, and by our power and success we throw their modern failure into stark contrast, especially because we`ve gotten to where we are by doing everything their religion says is wrong. We`ve deeply sinned, and yet we`ve won. They are forced to compare their own accomplishments to ours because we are the standard of success, and in every important way they come up badly short. In most of the contests it`s not just that our score is higher, it`s that their score is zero.
They have nothing whatever they can point to that can save face and preserve their egos. In every practical objective way we are better than they are, and they know it.
And since this is a "face" culture, one driven by pride and shame, that is intolerable. Nor is it something we can easily redress. The oft-proposed idea of increasing aid and attempting to eliminate poverty may well help in South America and sub-Saharan Africa, but it will not defuse the hatred of our Arab/Islamic enemies, for it is our success that they hate, not the fruits of that success.
It isn`t that they also want to be rich. Indeed, the majority of the most militant members of al Qaeda came from Saudi Arabia, out of comfortable existence. What they want is to stay with their traditional culture and for it to be successful, and that isn`t possible. We can make them rich through aid, but we can`t make them successful because their failure is not caused by us, but by the deep flaws in their culture. Their culture cannot succeed. It is too deeply and fundamentally crippled.
Everything they think they know says that they should be successful. They once were successful, creating and ruling a great empire, with a rich culture. God says they will be successful; it`s right there in the Qur`an. God lays on them the duty to dominate the world, but they can`t even dominate their own lands any longer. They face a profound crisis of faith, and it can only resolve one of three ways.
First, the status quo can continue. They can continue to fail, sit in their nations, and accept their plight. By clinging to their culture and their religion they may be ideologically pure, but they will have to continue to live with the shame of being totally unable to compete. Solution one: they can stagnate.
The second thing they can do is to accept that their culture and their religion are actually the problem. They can recognize that they will have to liberalize their culture in order to begin to achieve. They can embrace the modern world, and embrace western ways at least in part. They can break the hold of Islamic teachings; discard Sharia; liberate their women; start to teach science and engineering in their schools instead of the study of the Qur`an; and secularize their societies. Solution two: they can reform.
Some Arab nations have begun to do this, and to the extent that they have they have also started to succeed. But this is unacceptable to the majority; it is literally sinful. It is heresy. What good does it do to succeed in the world if, by so doing, you condemn your soul to hell?
Which leaves only one other way: become relatively competitive by destroying all other cultures which are more capable. You level the playing field by tearing down all the mountains rather than filling in the valleys; you make yourself the tallest by shooting everyone taller than you are. Solution three: they can lash out, fight back.
It`s vitally important to understand that this is the reason they`re fighting back. It`s not to gain revenge for some specific action in the past on our part. It isn`t an attempt to influence our foreign policy. Their goal is our destruction, because they can`t keep hold on what they have and still think of themselves as being successful as long as we exist and continue to outperform them.
al Qaeda grew out of this deepening resentment and frustration within the failed Arab culture. It is the first manifestation of solution three, but as long as the deep disease continues in the culture of our enemy, it won`t be the last. Its initial demands to the US were a bit surprising, and not very well known. (And obscured by the fact that as their struggle continued recently, they kept changing their stated demands in hopes of attracting allies from elsewhere in the Arab sphere.)
The original demand was for a complete cessation of contact between America and Arabia. Not just a pullout of our soldiers from holy Arab soil, but total isolation so that the people of greater Arabia would no longer be exposed in any way to us or our culture or our values. No television, no radio, no music, no magazines and books, no movies. No internet. And that isn`t possible; you can`t go backward that way.
But it`s interesting that this shows their real concern. If they`re no longer exposed to us, they are no longer shamed by comparing their failure to our success, and no longer seduced by it and tempted to discard their own culture and adopt ours.
Solution three manifests, and will continue to manifest, in many ways. Another way it manifests is in a new Arab imperialism, an ambition in some quarters to recreate the Arab empire and by so doing to regain political greatness. Arab nationalism doesn`t directly spring from Islam, but it does spring from this deep frustration and resentment caused by the abject failure of the enemy culture, and it`s most prominent practitioner is Saddam Hussein.
Both al Qaeda`s terrorist attacks, and Saddam`s attempts to incorporate other Arab nations into Iraq, spring from the same deep cause. But when I say that al Qaeda and Saddam are not the real enemy, it`s because they both arise due to a deeper cause which is the true enemy. If we were to stamp out al Qaeda as a viable organization and reduce it to an occasional annoyance, and remove Saddam`s WMDs no matter how, by conquest or inspections, someone else somewhere else would spring up and we would again be in peril. We cannot end this war by only treating the symptoms of al Qaeda and Saddam, though they must be dealt with as part of that process. This war is actually a war between the modern age and traditional Arab culture, and as long as they stagnated and felt resentment quietly, it wasn`t our war.
It became our war when al Qaeda started bringing it to our nation. With a series of successively more deadly attacks culminating in the attacks in NYC and Washington last year, it became clear that we in the United States could no longer ignore it, and had to start working actively to remove the danger to us. We didn`t pick this war, it picked us, but we can`t turn away from it. If we ignore it, it will keep happening.
But the danger isn`t al Qaeda as such, though that`s the short term manifestation of the danger. This war will continue until the traditional crippled Arab culture is shattered. It won`t end until they embrace reform or have it forced on them. Until a year ago, we were willing to be patient and let them embrace it slowly. Now we have no choice: we have to force them to reform because we cannot be safe until they do.
And by reform I mean culturally and not politically. The reform isn`t just abjuration of weapons of mass destruction. It isn`t just promising not to attack any longer. What they`re going to have to do is to fix all seven of Ralph Peters` problems, and once they`ve done so, their nations won`t be recognizable.
First, they will seem much more western. Second, they`ll start to succeed, for as Peters notes, nations which fix these problems do become competitive. What he`s describing isn`t symptoms, its deep causes.
We`re facing a 14th century culture engaged in a 14th century war against us. The problem is that they are armed with 20th century weapons, which may eventually include nuclear weapons. And they embrace a culture which honors dying in a good cause, which means that deterrence can`t be relied on if they get nuclear weapons.
Why is it that the US is concerned about Iraq getting nukes when we don`t seem to be as concerned about Pakistan or India or Israel? Why are we willing to invade Iraq to prevent it from getting nukes, but not Pakistan to seize the ones it developed? It`s because those nations don`t embrace a warrior culture where suicide in a good cause, even mass death in a good cause, is considered acceptable. (Those kinds of things are present in Pakistan but don`t rule there as yet.)
It`s certainly not the case that the majority of those in the culture which is our enemy would gladly die. But many of those who make the decisions would be willing to sacrifice millions of their own in exchange for millions of ours, especially the religious zealots. If such people get their hands on nuclear weapons, then our threat of retaliation won`t prevent them from using them against us, or threatening to do so. Which is why we can`t let it happen. The chance of Israeli or Pakistani or Indian nukes being used against us is acceptably small. If Arabs get them, then eventually one will be used against us. It`s impossible to predict who will do it, or when, or where, or what the proximate reason will be, but it`s inevitable that it will happen. The only way to prevent it is to keep Arabs from getting nukes, and that is why Iraq is now critically important and why time is running out.
It`s wrong to say that this would be "irrational" on their part. It is a reasoned decision based on an entirely different set of axioms, leading to a result totally unacceptable to us. But they`re not insane or irrational. Even though they`re totally rational, deterrence ultimately can`t stop them from using nuclear weapons against us.
All major wars started by someone else that you eventually come to win start with a phase where you try to consolidate the situation, to stop the enemy`s advance. Then you go onto the offensive, take the war to him, and finish it.
Afghanistan and Iraq are the two parts of the consolidation phase of this war. al Qaeda had to be crippled and Saddam has to be destroyed in order to gain us time and adequate safety to go onto the offensive, and to begin the process which will truly end this war: to destroy Wahhabism, to shatter Islamic fundamentalism, to completely break the will of the Arabs and to totally shame them.
Because they are a shame/pride culture, that latter may seem paradoxical. But the reality is that we cannot win this by making them proud, for they are not a stupid people and they actually have nothing to be proud of. We can`t make them proud because we can`t give them anything to be proud of; they need accomplishments of their own for pride, and their culture prevents that. The only hope here is to make them so ashamed that they finally face and accept the thing they are trying to hide from in choosing to fight back: their culture is a failure, and the only way they can succeed is to discard it and change.
It may sound strange to say, but what we have to do is to take the 14th century culture of our enemies and bring it into the 17th century. Once we`ve done that, then we can work on bringing them into the 21st century, but that will be much easier.
But they`ve got to accept their own failure, personally and nationally and culturally. That is the essential first step. They`ve got to accept that the cause of their failure is their own culture, and that we`re not. And they`ve got to accept that the only way to succeed is to change. That will be a difficult fight, and it`s going to take decades. Along the way it`s going to be necessary to remove many governments which come to power and yet again try to embrace the past and become militant, nationalistic, fundamentalist, or again attempt to try to develop nuclear weapons.
Saddam has to go not merely because of his programs for development of WMDs. He also has to go because he manifests Arab nationalism and imperialism. Even if he actually consents to disarm, he and the Baathist party must be destroyed. The reason that Iraq`s nuclear weapon program is critical is that it means we have to do so immediately; it makes it urgent. But removing their program to develop nuclear weapons doesn`t remove the deeper reason to destroy Saddam and the Baathists, for they are part of the deeper pathology which must be excised.
After the consolidation phase of this war is complete, with the destruction of the Taliban and occupation and reform of Iraq, then we will go onto the offensive and begin to strike at the deeper core of the problem. Part of that will be to force reform on Saudi Arabia, through a combination of diplomacy, persuasion, subversion, propaganda and possibly even military force.
What this shows is just how deeply I disagree with many who oppose this war. I am forthrightly proposing what some might call cultural genocide. The existing Arab culture which is the source of this war is a total loss. It must be shattered, annihilated, leaving behind no more traces in the Arab lands than the Samurai left in Japan or the mounted knights left in Europe.
I am forthrightly stating that it will be necessary to destabilize the entire middle east, which puts me exactly counter to European foreign policy. No band-aid will do. It isn`t possible to patch things up with diplomacy because the rot runs too deep. Diplomacy now would be treating the symptoms and not the true disease.
I am forthrightly stating that no amount of aid to the poor will stop the aggression against us, which will anger liberals everywhere. It isn`t our wealth they hate, it`s our accomplishments. The only way we can appease them is to ourselves become failures, and that is a price I`m not willing to pay.
And I claim that the US bears essentially no blame for the fundamental source of their anger towards us. They don`t hate us because of our foreign policy. They don`t ultimately hate us because of past mistakes. They don`t hate what we do or what we have done. They hate what we are, and what we show them that they are not. They hate our accomplishments and our capabilities because we force them to see their own lack of accomplishments and their incompetence and impotence.
And I`m saying that the US must do this, with help or without, because the US will be the continuing target of Arab solution number 3 as long as this resentment continues to boil, which it will do as long as Arab culture is not shattered and reformed. We will accept help from others if it`s truly helpful, but we`ll do it alone if we have to. (Or we will try and fail.)
We will be the primary target because we`re the most successful. It`s as simple as that. And that means that this ultimately will be a unilateral war by us; we`re the ones with the most on the line. If the Arabs eventually do get nukes, the first one they use will either be against Israel or against us. It won`t be against Europe, and if more conventional terrorist attacks continue, the most damaging ones will be directed against us. We will pay most of the price for this war, in staggering amounts of money, in losses on the field of battle, and in death and destruction at home, and therefore any talk of unified multilateral international action by a coalition of equals is nonsense. The other nations won`t risk as much and won`t pay as much and won`t contribute as much and therefore deserve less say in what will happen.
In the mean time, now that al Qaeda has broken the ice, there will be further terrorist attacks against us as long as this war continues. They may be made by al Qaeda itself, or they may be made by other groups who will spring up. We can`t totally prevent that until we`ve removed the true cause of those attacks: Arab cultural failure. Nothing short of that will stop the attacks. They`re part of the setbacks which always accompany any major war. We`ll do our best to foil such attacks, but inevitably some will succeed.
And those who don`t understand the true issues will inevitably point to such attacks as proof that our campaign is a failure, that by our aggressiveness we raised further terrorist groups against us, that we should abandon the war and try appeasement, concession, aid, humanistic solutions.
And they`ll be wrong, because they don`t understand the real reason why we`re being attacked and therefore why such approaches won`t truly remove the source of the grievance..
They won`t stop hating us until they become successful and begin to achieve on their own. We can`t make them successful with material gifts, including aid to their poor. We can only make them successful with cultural changes, and they will resist that. Now that we`ve been attacked, we are ourselves compelled to force them to accept those cultural changes, because that is the only way short of actual genocide to remove the danger to ourselves. This war will end when they change, but not before.

Das ist der Herr Bush. Sieht eigentlich ganz nett aus. Isser aber nicht. Is`n Massenmörder. Muß er auch sein. Der Herr Bush ist nämlich aus Texas, und war dort Gouverneur. Und wenn in Texas jemand umgebracht wird, hängt man den nächstbesten Neger auf. So einfach ist das. Sowas macht der Herr Bush natürlich nicht selber, dazu hat er seine Leute. Da hat er Richter und Geschworene, die den Neger verurteilen. Und Ärzte, die spritzen dem Neger dann Gift. Ganz sauber, und Bäume braucht man dann auch nicht. Die gibt`s in Texas nämlich gar nicht mehr. Macht aber nichts, dafür hat Texas ja Bohrtürme.

Der Herr Bush ist jetzt Präsident von Amerika. Ob er gewählt worden ist, weiß man noch nicht, weil die Stimmen noch nicht alle gezählt worden sind. Is ihm aber auch egal. Der Herr Bush hat da nämlich auch seine Leute dafür. Im obersten Gericht. Die hat sein Vater da `reingebracht. Und die entscheiden sowas. Deshalb ist Herr Bush Präsident, und wohnt jetzt in Washington.

Da ist ihm aber langweilig, weil man in Washington keine Neger hängen darf. Das ist aber nicht so schlimm. Da wirft der Herr Bush einfach ein paar Bomben auf den Saddam. Das hat sein Vater auch schon so gemacht, wenn ihm langweilig war. Der Herr Bush macht überhaupt alles so, wie sein Vater, nur schlechter.

Und wie`s mit dem Herrn Bush weitergeht, das erfahrt ihr beim nächsten Mal.



Der Saddam und die Massenvernichtungswaffen



Das ist der Saddam. Schaut aus wie ein durchgeknallter Sonntagsjäger. Isser aber nicht. Is ein blutrünstiger Diktator. Muß er auch sein, weil`s in der Gegend nur blutrünstige Diktatoren gibt. Da gibt`s die Mullahs im Iran. Die schicken Kinder in den Krieg, und verstecken ihre Frauen unter Tischdecken. Dann gibt`s die Scheichs in Saudi Arabien. Die verkaufen Öl an die Amis ... und finanzieren von dem Geld Terroristen. Und ihre Frauen verstecken sie auch. Und die anderen Herrscher in der Gegend sind auch nicht ganz koscher.

Der Saddam ist schon lang ein Schurke. Macht aber nichts, weil zuerst war er ja unser Schurke. Da hat er für uns gegen die Mullahs Krieg geführt, mit seinen Kindern. Hat aber nicht gereicht, da hat ihm der Herr Rumsfeld noch Giftgas geliefert. Das hat der Saddam dann gegen seine eigenen Leute eingesetzt. Macht aber nichts, dafür hat ihm der Herr Rumsfeld noch Biowaffen geschenkt. Das hat sich der Herr Rumsfeld alles gemerkt, weil man ja immer was brauchen kann, was man einem Schurken anhängen kann.

Irgendwann war der Saddam dann pleite, weil er den Krieg nicht gewonnen hat. Das wollte er dann alles mit Öl bezahlen. Ging aber nicht. Der Ölpreis war nämlich im Keller. Dorthin haben ihn die Kuwaitis gebracht, und die Schulden, die sie beim Saddam hatten, haben sie auch nicht bezahlt. Deshalb war der Saddam sauer, und hat einfach Kuwait besetzt.

Das hat dem Herr Bush seinem Vater nicht gefallen, deshalb hat der den Saddam da wieder `rausgeworfen. Dem Herr Bush sein Vater mag nämlich keine Verlierer. Damit alle mitmachen, hat dem Herr Bush sein Vater dann Sattelitenfotos gefälscht, und behauptet, der Saddam würde gleich auch noch nach Saudi-Arabien einmarschieren. Hat aber nicht gereicht. Dann hat dem Herr Bush sein Vater die Tochter des Botschafters von Kuwait als Krankenschwester verkleidet, und die hat dann behauptet, der Saddam würde Babies umbringen. Das hat dann gereicht.

Dem Herr Bush sein Vater ist dann aber abgewählt worden, bevor er mit dem Krieg gegen den Saddam richtig fertig geworden ist. Stattdessen ist dann der Herr Clinton Präsident gewesen. Der hat nicht richtig gegen den Saddam kämpfen wollen, wenn ihm langweilig war. Macht aber nichts, dafür hat er sich lieber von der Monica den Schwanz lutschen lassen.

Jetzt ist der Herr Bush Präsident, und weil ihm wieder langweilig ist, will er endlich den Saddam loswerden. Der Herr Bush hat nämlich keine Praktikantin.

Leider kann der Herr Bush nicht einfach sagen, daß ihm der Saddam einen Turm umgeworfen hat. Macht aber nichts, weil der Herr Bush dann einfach sagt, man soll sich einfach vorstellen, der Saddam würde einen Turm umwerfen wollen. Das ist dann noch viel schlimmer, weil der Saddam Massenvernichtungswaffen hat. Der Herr Bush muß das wissen, denn die hat der Saddam ja von seinen Leuten gekriegt.

Der Herr Bush sagt, Demokratien horten keine Massenvernichtungswaffen. Er sagt auch, Demokratien greifen keine anderen Staaten an. Dabei hat er selbst die meisten Massenvernichtungswaffen, und will den Irak angreifen. Macht aber nichts, weil dem Herr Bush sein Staat ja auch keine Demokratie ist. Sonst wär der Herr Bush ja dort nicht Präsident.

Der Saddam sagt aber, daß er gar keine Massenvernichtungswaffen mehr hat. Die haben ihm die Waffeninspektoren alle schon weggenommen. Und überhaupt darf er sie ja auch nicht mehr auf die eigenen Leute werfen wenn ihm langweilig ist, da macht das ja gar keinen Spaß. Der Saddam hat nämlich auch keine Praktikantin. Aber weil der Saddam ein Schurke ist, weiß der Herr Bush, daß er lügt. Deshalb sagt der Herr Bush, daß er jetzt nicht mehr länger warten will.

Wann dem Herr Bush der Geduldsfaden mit dem Saddam reißt und die beiden sich mit Sand und Förmchen bewerfen, und wer der Herr Rumsfeld ist, das erfahrt ihr ein anderes Mal.

deine rudimentären Weisheiten, sind schlicht sachlich und seelisch ERGREIFEND, deine Freunde auch Amis genannt ( wenn ich reinbeiße ein wahrer Genuß)
setzten in der Vergangenheit auch hier die EU unter Druck, der Türkei Tür und Tor zur EU zu öffnen!
Dies sehr wahrscheinlich auch schon in Bezug auf den Irak Feldzug!
Auch diese "Info" ist dir wohl schlicht abhanden gekommen, wenn die Türkei nunmehr in den Nordirak einmaschieren sollte, wäre dieses Problem für Europa im nichtislamischen Sinne vorerst gelöst, da die Türkei dann keinesfalls EU konform wäre!

Hoffe Du kannst wenigstens diesem simplen Sachverhalt folgen, wenn deinen kleinen grauen Zellen
keinen dauerhaften Schaden durch deinen intensiven Cola "Wodka" Krieg , davongetragen haben sollten!?

Das ist die Frau Merkel. Sieht ziemlich beschissen aus. Muß sie auch sein. Die Frau Merkel kriecht nämlich gern anderen in den Arsch. Zuerst war das der Herr Honnecker, damals noch in der DDR. Da hat die Frau Merkel alles gemacht, was der Karriere genützt hat. Die Frau Merkel hat sogar Blockflöte gespielt. Macht aber nichts, weil nach der Wende war sie dann plötzlich immer schon Widerstandskämpferin, und ist mitsamt ihrer Blockflöte dem Herr Kohl in den Arsch gekrochen.

Der Herr Kohl fand das richtig toll und hat die Frau Merkel sogar zur Generalsekretärin der CDU gemacht. Dann ist der Herr Kohl aber abgewählt worden, und der Herr Schröder ist Kanzler geworden. Ist aber nicht so schlimm, weil kurz später ist herausgekommen, daß der Herr Kohl seine Partei über schwarze Kassen finanziert hat. Da hätte er dann eh gehen müssen, und der Frau Merkel konnte er auch nicht mehr helfen.

Macht aber nichts, die Frau Merkel hat das gleich kapiert, und den Herr Kohl abgesägt. Sie ist dann selber Chef der CDU geworden. Da hat sie sich dann einen neuen Arsch gesucht, nämlich den vom Herr Stoiber. Der wollte auch Kanzler werden. Hat aber nicht geklappt, weil der Herr Schröder die neuen Länder geflutet hat, und der Herr Bush unbedingt Krieg gegen den Saddam machen wollte. Da macht der Herr Schröder nicht mit, und das gefällt den Leuten.

Der Herr Stoiber hat dann auch versucht, gegen den Krieg zu sein, hat ihm aber keiner geglaubt. Der Herr Stoiber wollte sogar dem Herr Bush die Überflugsrechte nehmen. Macht aber nichts, weil der Herr Stoiber ja gar nicht Kanzler geworden ist. Deshalb hat er sich auch kein Glas Champagner aufgemacht. Und die Frau Merkel sucht wieder einen neuen Arsch, nämlich den vom Herr Bush.

Muß sie auch, weil die CDU nämlich pleite ist. Das kommt davon, weil nicht nur der Herr Kohl, sondern auch der Herr Koch schwarze Kassen hatte. Deshalb fehlen der CDU jetzt 21 Millionen Euro. Das ist ganz schön viel Holz. Und weil die Frau Merkel das nicht hat, ist sie ganz nett zum Herr Bush. Vielleicht gibt er ihr dann Geld. Sonst gibt der Herr Bush auch denen ganz viel Geld, die bei seinem Krieg mitmachen. Die Türkei kriegt sogar 20 Milliarden. Das ist viel mehr, als die CDU bräuchte. Und dabei weiß die Türkei noch gar nicht, ob sie wirklich mitmachen will.

Ob die Frau Merkel damit durchkommt, in welchen Arsch sie als nächstes kriecht, und was aus dem Herr Koch wird, das erfahrt ihr ein anderes Mal.

Das ist der Herr Rumsfeld. Sieht aus wie ein alter Haudegen. Isser aber nicht. Ist ein Grüner. Der Herr Rumsfeld will nämlich die NATO auflösen und die Ami-Truppen aus Deutschland rauswerfen. Könnte man meinen. Is aber irgendwie anders. Deshalb von vorn.

Das ist der Herr Rumsfeld. Sieht ziemlich humorlos aus. Isser aber nicht. Isn Witzbold. Der Herr Rumsfeld vergleicht Deutschland mit Kuba und Libyen. Er sagt, wenn man im Loch sitzt, soll man aufhören zu graben. Und weil Deutschland und Frankreich nicht mitmachen wollen beim Krieg gegen den Saddam, ist für ihn das "alte Europa" ein Problem. Das läßt sich nämlich nicht so einfach kaufen wie das "neue Europa".

Leider versteht keiner die Witze vom Herr Rumsfeld. Macht aber nichts, weil ja nicht der Herr Rumsfeld schuld ist, wenn alle auf Amerika sauer sind. Der Herr Rumsfeld ist ja auch kein Diplomat. Das ist ein Job für Weicheier und Neger. Deshalb macht das beim Herr Bush auch der Herr Powell. Der muß dann immer erklären, daß der Herr Rumsfeld das nicht so bös gemeint hat. Ist aber auch egal, weil dem Herr Rumsfeld dann schon wieder ein neuer Spruch eingefallen ist.

Der Herr Rumsfeld ist beim Herr Bush für den Krieg zuständig. Damit kennt er sich aus. Er kennt sich auch mit Massenvernichtungswaffen aus, weil er die schon im Koreakrieg eingesetzt hat, und an den Saddam geliefert hat. Macht aber nichts, weil die Guten dürfen solche Waffen verwenden. Damals war auch das "alte Europa" noch kein Problem, weil das mitgemacht hat. Nur heute verkauft keiner mehr dem Saddam Waffen.

Deshalb will er auch jetzt unbedingt den Saddam loswerden. Der hat nämlich kaum mehr Massenvernichtungswaffen, und darum kann man an Saudi Arabien keine Waffen mehr verkaufen. Weil die sich nicht mehr vorm Saddam fürchten.

Macht aber nichts, weil wenn die Amis im Irak sind, kann der Herr Rumsfeld seine Massenvernichtungswaffen gleich mitbringen. Dann fürchten sich die Saudis wieder, und kaufen viele Waffen. Der Herr Bush will ja schließlich Demokratie nach Arabien bringen. Was er damit meint, weiß er wohl selber nicht so genau. Sonst würde er ja nicht der Türkei erlauben, die Kurdengebiete im Irak zu besetzen. Dort hat der Saddam nämlich gar nichts zu sagen, sondern ein gewähltes Parlament. Macht aber nichts, weil die im Parlament nicht miteinander reden.

Ob der Herr Rumsfeld noch dazu kommt, seinen Krieg zu machen, und was ihm sonst noch für Sprüche einfallen, das erfahrt ihr ein anderes Mal.

They`re taking the spotlight away from the corporate scandals in which they`re knee-deep. They`re taking the spotlight away from the growing mountain of evidence that 9-11 could have been prevented if Bush had not been on vacation for the first 8 months of his presidency. And they`re putting the spotlight on yesterday`s villain: Saddam Hussein. (By the way: Where`s Osama Bin Laden?) The Bush administration can`t lose with this strategy. And Saddam, the ham, is always up for attention. There`s no good reason to go to war with Iraq. But they can fabricate as many reasons as they need to, and CNN will take them all very seriously. Eventually, the media will grow tired of reporting on a potential war and the real war will have to start. In the last war against Iraq, nearly 500,000 "soldiers" (mostly conscripts) were killed by U.S. bombs. After the war, about a million people (mostly children) died because they did not have access to clean water, simple medicines or medical care (we had destroyed Iraq`s entire infrastructure). Now Saddam is abducting a new generation of teenaged soldiers for a new generation of Bush to slaughter. WHAT FUN FOR BOTH OF THEM! Bush gets votes (or so he stupidly thinks -- didn`t he watch what happened when his father tried this plan?). And Saddam will finally get to play out the finale of his grand dictator/martyr drama. Sadly, there will be terrible consequences: hundreds of thousands of charred teenaged corpses, chaos in the middle east, a worldwide backlash against the U.S.. Or perhaps worse: to quote Brent Scowcroft: "Armageddon."
