Hi Linea....der Film ist wirklich gut, und ich hab ihn in der letzten Zeit einige male gesehen. Hatte mal irgendwann einen Teil davon im Ferndehen mitbekommen, und war danach dann bemüht, ihn irgendwie aufzunehmen. ...Und das klappte dann auch vor ca 6 Wochen. Harry Belafonte hatte ich kaum erkennen können, so sehr widersprach die Rolle seinem sonst üblichen Immage. ....unterhaltsam ist es allemal, wenn sich Gangster gegenseitig abmurksen, und dies auch noch von der Qualität der Musik abhängig machen "Du lebst nur noch, weil die Musik so gut ist und noch spielt" - Das ist Klasse. Wynton Marsalis kam mal kurz als einer der Musiker ins Bild. Dort spielt die Creme de la Creme der zeitgenössischen Jazzer als Musiker mit. ...Ist so ´ne Art "The Girl can´t help it" für den Jazz... Als ich dann einige Tage später Dein Posting dazu las, Linea war ich ganz überrascht, weil ich ebenfalls schon dafür am sammeln und werkeln war.

The rock `n roll classic "Kansas City" was written by famous songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller and recorded by several different artists. However, Wilbert Harrison`s version is the top pick and spends two weeks at the top of the charts. Harrison`s song is also the first song to enter the charts at the low position of 100 and go all the way to number one. …yes linea – practice makes perfect… - und dieser bursche hat unzweifelhaft eine menge davon – nachdem sich in letzter zeit im kielwasser von Robbie Williams und seinem swingalbum “Swing when you’re winning” eine ganze reihe rockmusiker wie Roddie Stewart usw. sich an diesem genre versucht haben, dachte sich altmeister Paul Anke wohl – denen zeige ich mal was ne harke ist und nahm ein album mit rockklassikern im klassischen swingsound auf – Rock Swings...

Ja ja, Iguana, der swing-Rhythmus hat schon was und das sieht
man den Noten gar nicht an: Der schwingende Eindruck entsteht
ja daraus - mal ganz lapidar gesagt - dass man die notierten Achtelnoten
nicht gleichmäßig spielt, wie sonst üblich, sondern ungleichmäßig.

Man muss sich die beiden Achtel quasi als eine Triole denken - und
dann ergeben die ersten beiden Noten die erste Achtel. Diese wird
dementsprechend länger gespielt als die zweite (Standard = 2 : 1).
Je nach Tempo, Interpretation, Vorliebe variiert dieses Verhältnis
natürlich etwas... Im Prinzip ist es aber immer ein "daa-da-daa-da...."



Ein anderer toller Film, den ich mir jetzt auch auf DVD bestellen will,
ist Kansas City, für den Robert Altman u.a. 21 Jazz-Musiker engagiert hatte...

Der Blick fällt auf eine in düsteren, teilweise grellen Schwarz-Weiß-Grau-Tönen sich darbietende Landschaft. Tristesse. Drei Männer nähern sich einem unbedeutenden Nest namens Hadleyville, irgendwo. Es ist ca. 10 Uhr morgens. Jack Colby (Lee van Cleef), Pierce (Robert J. Wilke) und Ben Miller (Sheb Wooley) reiten durch Hadleyville. Jeder kennt sie. Vor allem aber kennt jeder Einwohner den, der gerade nicht in die Stadt reitet, Frank Miller (Ian MacDonald), auf den die drei anderen warten. Frank Miller soll mit dem Zug um 12 Uhr in Headley eintreffen. Frank Miller ist ein verurteilter Mörder, der aus unerfindlichen Gründen begnadigt wurde. Frank Miller wurde vom Marshal der Stadt, Will Kane (Gary Cooper), vor Jahren gefasst. Und Will Kane gilt der Besuch Frank Millers. Jeder in der Stadt weiß das, als die drei Ganoven auftauchen. Und jeder weiß, dass sich Miller an Kane rächen will. Ein klassischer Western? Nein, beileibe nicht. Fred Zinnemann (1907-1997), der aus Österreich stammende Regisseur, der noch vor der Machtübernahme der Nationalsozialisten in Deutschland in die USA ging, war eher ein Ausnahmeregisseur in den heiligen Hallen von Hollywood. Bekannt wurde Zinnemann mit „Das siebte Kreuz“ (1944) nach dem berühmten Roman Anna Seghers, später mit Filmen wie „Verdammt in alle Ewigkeit“ (1953), „Oklahoma!“ (1955), „Der alte Mann und das Meer“ (1958), „Geschichte einer Nonne“ (1959), „Der Schakal“ (1973) und „Julia“ (1977), seinem vorletzten Film.

...letzte woche hat ihr live auftritt bei TV-Total mich verdammt verblüfft – Renee Olstead – eine junge, talentierte sängerin, die mit der live-band jazz-standards zum besten gab. aber richtig die kinnlade runtergefallen ist mir, als sie meinte sie wäre erst 16 jahre alt
...sie sagt „i like to perform and i love to sing“ – bereits im alter von 4 jahren bei einem talentwettbewerb entdeckt, spielte sie in diversen filmen an der seite von größen wie Al Pacino oder Russell Crowe...

...bei der suche nach songs von Julie London bin ich doch zufällig über eine andere ebenfalls sehr populäre schauspielerin namens Julie gestolpert, die zu den verehrten weiblichen ikonen zu zählen ist – Julie Christie (am bekanntesten sicher durch ihre hauptrolle neben Donald Sutherland in „Wenn die Gondeln Trauer tragen“ geworden und einem meiner lieblingsfilme „Fahrenheit 451“)...



...nun Julie Christie scheint bis heute eindruck zu machen – der talentierte songwriter Bill Ricchini hat ihr einen starken song auf seinem debutalbum „Ordinary Time“ gewidmet...
...nachdem er im zuge des „dot.com“ niedergangs arbeitslos wurde, hatte er mal eben im wohnzimmer diese platte aufgenommen...


Ricchini asserts a quiet power in his arrangements and melodies, reminiscent of his influences, the Beatles and the Beach Boys. But the heart of the record lies in Ricchini`s particular affinity for the fuzz guitars, keyboards, catchy bass lines, and tambourines of `60s surf pop, all the more ironic for a record that is set in the winter. On "Julie Christie" tambourines and keyboards, fuzz and bass guitars shake out a `60s surf pop sound while the refrain, "You look just like Julie Christie/And I feel just like Terry Stamp," invokes the names of the iconic `60s movie stars whose supposed romance Ray Davies depicted in the Kinks` "Waterloo Sunset."
