Oil Freight at $100,000 Piles Pressure on Crude Markets
https://au.finance.yahoo.com/news/oil-freight-100-000-piles-…
...
The slump in China’s buying has bought Europe extra time as it seeks to work out how to replace around 800,000 barrels a day of Russia’s flagship Urals crude after the EU embargo on the OPEC+ producer’s imports takes effect in two weeks, said Haines, who expects China to return in earnest in the spring.
“Chinese buying is tepid for now which will soften the blow,” he said. “But once China is back in the market -- likely for second-quarter barrels -- China will be the key variable to 2023 balances.”
That said, some traders are of the mind that prices have already sunk enough to stimulate more Asia buying. Sales of January- and February-delivered barrels of Brazilian crude to China picked up when sellers lowered the ask price to the level Chinese state oil companies and South Korean refiners were bidding.

Russia’s Ukraine War Turns Fuel Tankers Into Hot Property
https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/russia-ukraine-conflict-has-made…
...
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has supercharged one segment of the shipping market, with soaring freight rates prompting companies to rush to purchase rather than rent vessels.
Trade restrictions on Moscow have upended global fuel flows, locking up more ships in long-haul routes, while others get taken up to handle Russian flows. That has tightened overall tanker supply, lifting spot freight costs and setting off a scramble for used vessels, with the price of so-called clean tankers jumping as much as 60% over six months to July, according to VesselsValue data.
Commodity markets, and the shipping trade that’s vital for transporting materials around the globe, have been upended Europe’s worst military crisis since World War II. While freight rates have recently eased from their highs, ship owners are still likely to fetch healthy earnings for the rest of the year, according to Anoop Singh, head of tanker research at Braemar ACM Shipbroking.
With demand outstripping availability, buyers have been willing to bid significantly higher, shipbrokers told Bloomberg. Given a new tanker takes up to three years to order, companies hoping to cash in on the rally are mostly limited to existing vessels, they said.
