"...The above car is Chang-an’s latest mid size sedan that will give the company some fight in the battle for the government procurement list, the Chinese government set down a law several years ago which encouraged more government ministers to buy locally produced cars and give up their Audi’s to promote local brands, except ministers moaned that there were not enough good large sized Chinese sedans. Chery, Geely, Besturn and Chang’an answered the governments patriotic call and started building cars fit for chauffeuring, Geely made the Emgrand EC8, Chery the Riich G5 and G6, Besturn has the B70 and soon B90 whilst Chang’an came up with this CD101..."

"Chinese car companies see export surge and hike prices by 20% in overseas markets
      Industry News | SusanZhao | August 31, 2011 at 9:59 pm
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An unnamed Chinese homegrown auto brand sent a group of its domestic dealers to Egypt for business exchange visits recently, Chinese dealers were surprised at the brand’s high recognition and booming sales in the North African market. Just like many popular imported models in Chinese market, price increases are quite common for the brand in the Egyptian market. Prices were inflated by as much as 20% in some case.

The soaring exports of China’s homegrown auto brands are offsetting their domestic sales decline, with many Chinese homegrown auto brands are doing recently is to lower down their domestic sales target and raise the export target. As exports are growing rapidly, many Chinese automakers are planning overseas expansion, with many companies aggressively attacking high growth markets in developing areas.

Chery’s wholly-owned plant in Brazil has started construction, and will start production in September 2013. JAC plans to invest $600 million in opening a plant in Brazil. Lifan has launched its Iraqi plant."

"Analysis: Despite slowing global economy, Chinese manufacturers continue to expand
      By Carmen Lee From Gasgoo.comAugust 17, 2011
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai) - Following Standard and Poor's revising the US's credit rating, Western economy has hit yet another slump, which in turn has been reflected in the falling stock prices of GM, Ford and other American automobile enterprises. Meanwhile, the European debt crisis has caused similar effects among European car manufacturers.

In the light of said news, automobile markets in China and other developing nations, while still continuing to expand, are doing so at a slowed down pace. According to statistics released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, over 6.33 million passenger vehicles were sold in the country in the first seven months of 2011, more than 9 percent higher than the amount sold in 2010. The market looks likely to stay cool in the near future.

Market fluctuations have been especially apparent among Chinese manufacturers. 3.15 million domestic passenger vehicles were sold in the first half of this year, a decrease from the latter half of 2010. Domestic brands made up 44.39 percent of all passanger vehicles sold. Domestic manufacturers, including Chery, BYD, Brilliance, Changan and SAIC have all seen their sales decrease by varying degrees.

Chinese manufacturers are currently divided by large state-owned companies carrying representative own brands, such as SAIC (Roewe), FAW (Benten) and Dongfeng (Aeolus), and fully independent companies such as BYD, Chery and Geely. Alongside joint ventures, the country's automobile industry is actually quite varied. Gasgoo.com (Chinese) conducted a survey earlier this month to better understand what views experts have on the future of this diversified industry.

Large Chinese manufacturers made quite a splash among Fortune Magazine's list of top 500 companies, with Dongfeng placing at 145 ($55.75b returns, $2.48b net profit), SAIC placing at 151 ($54.26b returns, $1.91b net profit), FAW at 197 ($43.43b returns, $2.13b net profit) and Changan at 226 ($37.99b returns, $225m net profit). GAC and BAIC also found their way into the list. These manufacturers have also expressed their desire to continue large-scale investment to develop own brands.

However, according to the survey, 40 percent of respondents believe that Chery, BYD, Geely and other independent manufacturers will represent the Chinese automobile industry in the future. 31 percent of respondents believe that this is due to the lack of competition among large corporations that in turn stifles creativity. They fear that lack of clear planning for own brands by joint ventures may end up giving independent manufacturers the edge they need in this new segment.:eek::eek:

The decision of manufacturers such as JAC, Chery and Geely to open factories overseas has also caught worldwide attention. Both JAC and Chery have begun investing in establishing Brazilian production sites, while Geely will be opening one in Indonesia. Other moves, such as BAIC's purchasing of intellectual rights from Saab in 2009, are also being taken as evidence of China flexing its muscle in the industry."

Maßstäbe soll der Up vielmehr beim Spritsparen setzen.

"Volvo and Siemens to develop electric cars
Published on August 31, 2011 by Tycho

Volvo, the Swedish carmaker owned by China’s Geely, has formed a partnership with Siemens, the German engineering group, to develop electric cars and ancillary equipment.

The two companies said on Wednesday that an electric version of Volvo’s small C30 hatchback would be available for testing by the end of this year. Volvo will deliver up to 200 vehicles to Siemens for further testing by the end of 2012.

The venture marks the latest in a series of partnerships between carmakers and suppliers to develop various types of electric vehicles.

General Motors and South Korea’s LG Group announced a similar agreement last week. LG already supplies battery cells for GM’s two existing extended-range hybrids, the Chevrolet Volt and its European cousin, the Opel Ampera. The cars have a small internal-combustion engine to extend the range of their electric battery.

Siemens already has deals with BMW and Renault to develop electric-car charging equipment.

Volvo and Siemens said in a statement that they would co-operate in the development of electric drive technology, power electronics and charging technology, as well as the integration of those systems into the C30.

Siegfried Russwurm, a member of Siemens management board, said: “It is our long-term goal to establish Siemens as a global system provider with solutions both inside and outside of electric vehicles. We see ourselves as a comprehensive electric mobility pioneer.”

The companies did not say whether Siemens’ technology would also be made available to Geely. The Chinese government is heavily promoting electric vehicles to help alleviate the country’s environmental and energy dependence problems but electric vehicle sales in large numbers are not expected for several years.

Volvo and Siemens have scheduled a news conference later on Wednesday.

Geely’s purchase of Volvo last year was the biggest acquisition of an overseas brand by a Chinese carmaker. It is viewed as a model of a successful acquisition in the automobile sector by Beijing, which is encouraging other China carmakers to look overseas for targets."

"Several China manufacturers see profits fall
      By Carmen Lee From Gasgoo.comAugust 31, 2011
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 31) - A slow market has been affecting several automobile enterprises in China, with performance reports for the first half of 2011 from GAC Changfeng, Changan, Foton and FAW Xiali all showing the manufacturers' net profits falling, the Beijing Times reported today.

Among the four manufacturers listed above, SUV manufacturer Changfeng saw the largest loss in the first half of this year with a net loss of 21.46 million yuan ($3.37m), representing a performance fall of 115.51 percent for the manufacturer. With Changfeng's biggest buyer traditionally being the government, new guidelines restricting what sort of vehicles can be used for official use have hurt the manufacturer's sales.

Meanwhile, FAW Xiali, Foton and Changan's net profits dropped 84 percent, 38.45 percent and 23.89 percent, respectively
. All three manufacturers were heavily affected by the earthquake in Japan earlier this year, with Foton also citing the rising cost of fuel and recent monetary policies as other reasons.

Several manufacturers also point to the phasing out of certain preferential purchase policies as a key factor behind poor performance in the first half of the year
      ."
