      ja das ist InfoSpace

      meint zumindest Merrill Lynch:

We re-iterate our Buy/Buy rating and continue to believe that INSP - which is at the heart of convergence between wireless and internet - has the potential to become one of the top10 or so Internet companies in a few years time.

hab das was nettes aus dem Internetreport 4.2000

Der neue Bill Gates - ein Inder ???? :-)

Revenues soar to just over $19 million with a pro forma profit of $0.01, beating First Call consensus estimates by $0.07; Committed revenue backlog increases to $75 million for the next four quarters; Transaction, subscription and commerce revenues represent 83% of total revenues

REDMOND, WA. — April 24, 2000 — InfoSpace, Inc. (NASDAQ:INSP), a leading global provider of infrastructure services for wireless devices, merchants and Web sites, today announced record first quarter revenues of just over $19 million due to strong demand for its wireless, merchant and consumer services. This is a 261% increase from revenues of $5.3 million in the comparable quarter of 1999. In addition, committed revenue backlog for the next four quarters increased to $75 million.

InfoSpace earned a pro forma net profit of $1.9 million, or $0.01 per share, beating First Call consensus estimates by $0.07. These results exclude unrealized gains from venture investments, acquisition related charges and employer payroll taxes on gains realized by employees from non-qualified stock option exercises. This is compared to a pro forma net loss of $5.3 million, or loss of $0.03 per share in the same period last year.

“InfoSpace is leading the convergence of the two fastest growing industry segments in history — wireless and the Internet — creating a new industry: the wireless Internet,” said Naveen Jain, chairman, InfoSpace. “We are fundamentally changing how people communicate, access information, conduct commerce and otherwise manage their lives whenever they want, however they want and wherever they want as we continue to be the platform of choice for leading wireless carriers worldwide.”

Just last week, InfoSpace announced that Arun Sarin joined the Company from Vodafone AirTouch where he was CEO of the US and Asia / Pacific Regions. Together, Arun Sarin, as chief executive officer and Naveen Jain, as chairman and chief strategist will guide the Company’s rapid growth and global expansion. Like other notable executive teams, Jain’s visionary leadership, coupled with Sarin’s long track record for consistently delivering strong growth and impressive operating results, will be the driving forces behind the long-term success of the Company.

      Wireless Services

Wireless continues to be the biggest opportunity and fastest growing area for InfoSpace. Nokia and Ericsson have both projected that there will be one billion cellular phones worldwide by 2003. Jupiter predicts that by the same year, more people will access the Internet on wireless devices than on PCs.

“The market for InfoSpace’s services reminds me of the cellular market in the mid-eighties,” said Arun Sarin, CEO, InfoSpace. “We knew it was going to be big, but we had no idea how big – and were continually astounded when subscriber growth far outpaced industry projections, quarter after quarter. From the vantage point of having just been the head of Vodafone’s global wireless Internet business, I can tell you that InfoSpace is in the best position to take advantage of this huge opportunity and that is why I decided to join this winning team.”

InfoSpace continues to be the platform of choice for more and more carriers worldwide. InfoSpace now has relationships with more than 24 carriers worldwide, including Vodafone, Verizon, AT&T, Dutchtone, Panafon, J-Phone, KPN, Omnitel, diAx, Telfort, Libertel, Ben, Microcell Telecommunications, US West and GTE.

The numbers were definately better than what was the concensus estimates. However, everyone knew and expected them to
be. What kind o f scared me after seeing the results is that we have a market cap of over 10Bil and revenues of less than
100 mil! Also, we dont` lose money, but we aren`t really making money either. Hopefully Wall St. won`t slam us, but I have a
felling we are going down tommorrow. The reason is that this stock fits into the mold of solid business (we we all know) but
over priced relating to current profits and revenues. This was fine 3 months ago, but I dont` think this market likes this type of
stock since this is a results right now market and 1 cent profit doesn`t count. Hopefully during the conference call Jain will
save us like JDSU saved themselves. I am worried though and might sell.

Schaut Euch doch Calico Commerce an. Vorgestern sehr gute Zahlen. +19%.

      CHASE H&Q Internet Research Note
InfoSpace (INSP) Rating: BUY - FOCUS LIST
      April 27, 2000 jack.ripsteen@chase.com

InfoSpace Reports Blow Out Quarter. Reiterate Focus BUY.
      •Strong revenue growth
      •4th Quarter of Profitability
•Growth across key metrics: reach, merchants, partners, launches
•Deeper Penetration into wireless Internet market
      •Bulking up the Management Team
•Firing on All Cylinders: Raising Estimates

      Summary and Recommendation:
InfoSpace once again proved that it has one of the most attractive and leverageable business models associated with the Internet. InfoSpace reported another blow out quarter significantly exceeding our top and bottom line estimates. InfoSpace reported $19.0 million in revenue and $0.01 EPS significantly ahead of our estimates of $15.7 million in revenue and ($0.05) EPS. InfoSpace’s revenue grew 32% sequentially and exceeded our estimates by 21%. On the bottom line InfoSpace delivered its fourth quarter of profitability. While we had projected losses, our estimates do not provide a pure comparison as we had estimated the full impact of the Saraide acquisition, which did not close until late in the quarter.

Regardless, we are impressed with InfoSpace’s ability to execute and maintain profitability while tackling new market opportunities (wireless); expanding deeper and more broadly into existing markets and while integrating and
      digesting several acquisitions.

Importantly the business outlook at InfoSpace is strong. InfoSpace executed across all of its core businesses: Consumer, Merchant and Wireless. In Q1 the focus continued to be on the wireless front.

InfoSpace continues to accelerate its wireless business adding new customers and locking up significant partnerships with wireless carriers, including a recent partnership announced with Verizon (combination of Bell Atlantic and Vodafone AirTouch). Additionally, five existing wireless carrier customers deployed on the InfoSpace Infrastructure platform, signaling that the InfoSpace Infrastructure platform is real and ready.

In terms of the business model, wireless carrier roll outs provide improved visibility on revenue and potential upside given that InfoSpace charges wireless carriers on a per subscriber basis. Importantly, InfoSpace’s business, across the board, is firing on all cylinders. InfoSpace’s backlog of committed revenue, grew to $75 million in Q1 up from $57 million in Q499.

InfoSpace’s backlog represents signed contracts-with unrecognized revenue that will be recognized over the next four quarters. We believe InfoSpace’s backlog and pipeline of new wireless customers and pending wireless deployments provides good visibility on InfoSpace’s top line growth.

Based on the strength of InfoSpace’s quarter we are raising estimates. As previously
discussed (please see report 01/27/00) we expect losses for the rest of FY00 with a return to profitability in early FY01. Losses in FY00 are due to the Saraide acquisition that
closed at the end of Q1. We are raising our FY00 estimates to $97.6 million in revenue
and ($0.13) EPS from $86.3 million in revenue and ($0.17) EPS and we are raising our
FY01 revenue estimate to $205 million in revenue from $178.9 million and maintain our
      $0.06 EPS.

We continue to believe that InfoSpace is a core holding in any Internet Infrastructure portfolio and provides investors with one of the best opportunities to invest in the emerging wireless Internet opportunity. We reiterate our Focus BUY.

INSP reported its earnings yesterday, April 26. INSP gained a penny this quarter, rather than the 6-cent loss that was expected. Chairman Naveen Jain says that the improvement is because of the wide base of companies it supplies to, wireless Internet and offline merchants, as well as its recognition by shareholders.

Jain says that INSP is what makes the Internet possible. It is "The infrastructure company behind everything we do on the internet". Jain refers to INSP as "The brain behind the brawn" of the Internet. Jain can say this because INSP supplies online content to AOL and MSFT as well as 100 other corporations. Wireless internet is another cause of INSP`s success. Jain feels that INSP is extremely active in wireless as well as offline merchants which, he says is part of the reason why the company dropped the .com at the end of its name. The final reason Jain attributed INSP`s success is the shareholder recognition of the "great potential that INSP offers".

einige (ungeprüfte) zitate aus dem inteview:

"On competition to InfoSpace: "You know, it`s really, really lonely out there."

On what InfoSpace will do after it dominates Europe, N. America, Asia, and Latin America:
      "There`s always Mars and Pluto."

On possible competitive threat from AT&T Wireless spinoff: "AT&T is our partner -- not our competitor."

He also took what I interpreted as a little jab at Yahoo!, saying something to the effect that he would help AT&T take care
of them or something like that.

Also said a couple of times that he defines "success" as 100% market share.

Naveen says only problem he has is finding the people and time to meet with all the great companies that want to partner with InfoSpace."

Separately, analyst Todd Raker started InfoSpace (INSP) at "buy," calling it an enabler of the everyday use of the wireless Internet, pointing out that its wireless-centric, private-label infrastructure service is the core platform powering several major wireless rollouts.
Poised to capitalize on the convergence of two emerging market opportunities -- wireless Internet and local merchant e-commerce -- InfoSpace should grow revenues by 163% in 2000 and 111% in 2001, the analyst said.

Although he did not give a price target for InfoSpace shares, he said they are worth between $50-$100, based on a discounted cash flow analysis.

      mE ein echter hammer!

Man habe
mit 6 Cents Verlust je Aktie gerechnet. Tatsächlich hätte Infospace jedoch 1
Cent Gewinn je Aktie (1,89 Mio. Dollar Gewinn) erreicht.

InfoSpace Chair Naveen Jain Files To Sell $107.7M Of Stock (INSP)

(NewsTraders.com)-- InfoSpace ( INSP ) founder and Chairman Naveen Jain, together with his wife Anuradha, took preliminary steps toward unloading 1.5 million shares of the Internet content aggregator, worth a whopping $107.7 million.

Chase H&Q was named as the brokerage to handle the transaction, which Jain slated for May 1, according to a Form 144 regulatory document released today.

In a separate filing, InfoSpace senior vice president Michael Kantor indicated that he planned to sell 100,000 shares, also on May 1 and through Chase H&Q.

Kantor`s shares are valued at almost $7.2 million.

At the time of the filings, InfoSpace had 216.6 million shares outstanding.

Of note, a Form 144 only shows a filer`s intent to sell the shares. Actual verification of the sales, if and when they occur, would be provided in a subsequent filing

Shares of InfoSpace, based in Redmond, Wash., were recently down $4.44 at $58.63.

"...VoiceStream Wireless had 1.8 million customers at the end of the first quarter 2000, comprised of 1.3 million monthly subscribers and over 500 thousand prepaid customers. This represents an increase of 334% over total customers at the end of the first quarter of 1999. Subscriber revenues for the first quarter of 2000 were $170.8 million, a 220.7 percent increase over the same quarter in 1999. Prepaid revenues for the quarter were $25.2 million. Roaming revenues were $10.2 million for the first quarter of 2000, up 484.6% over the same period in 1999. Total service revenues were $206.1 million for the first quarter of 2000, up 268.8 percent over the same quarter in 1999. Additionally, VoiceStream had $33.9 million in equipment revenue and $17.0 million in other revenue for total revenue during the first quarter 2000 of $257.0 million, up 279.6 percent over the same quarter in 1999...."

      Who Owns Your Portal?

When you surf the Web wirelessly will you still love Yahoo and AOL?

      By Nikhil Hutheesing

IF YOU HAVEN`T ALREADY GONE WIRELESS IN YOUR WEB-surfing you soon will. Now, you don`t have to own a PC to get on the Net. You can flip open your cellular phone and get snippets of information--like the departure time of a flight, the price of a stock and the location of the nearest sushi joint. You can even make reservations.

As these handheld, easily portable Web access instruments proliferate, you may have to change your established viewing habits. Today, when you go to the wired Web, your first stop is likely an established portal like Yahoo, America Online or Lycos. You get your e-mail there, check your stocks and then search the Web for other sites.

This portal-dependence has made some very rich, giving Yahoo, for example, a market capitalization of $70 billion. But as handheld wireless spreads, the old telecoms like Sprint PCS, U S West, Bell Atlantic and Vodafone Airtouch hope to send Yahoo and its likes into obsolescence. They want to be your portals, your main entrance to the Internet.

The wireless Web, which is partly just a repackaging of the wired Web, can`t show pages of graphics, text and flashing banner ads on the tiny screen of a handheld device. Instead, it offers tightly focused packets of information--live stock quotes, say, or e-mail, or highway directions.

A number of portals are quickly reworking their Web sites to make them more suitable for handheld devices (see table). They must move fast because the telecom companies are working to speed up wireless connections and are upgrading their networks to operate under the Wireless Access Protocol (WAP). This standard allows a variety of handheld devices to access information from the Web.

When that happens, the carriers plan to build on their status as Internet service providers to become advertising portals. Since they always know where you are at the moment you access the Web through their ISPs, the telecoms envision new wireless services of the kind today`s portals simply can`t offer. You are driving around town and a real estate site knows that you are in the market for a new home--the carrier can make sure that a message will flash on your phone from the real estate site when you pass a house for sale. If you drive by a mall and Nordstrom is having a sale, a promotion will be sent to you on your phone. It`s getting to be lunchtime and a local restaurant or fast-food joint offers you its convenient hospitality.

Creating an ISP and a portal wrapped up in one--AT&T WorldNet, for example--is a strategy that was tried before, by the first generation of wired ISPs. But they moved too slowly. New economy upstarts like Yahoo were already there.

"We`ve seen what happened with the fixed operators, and we want to avoid the same fate," says Christopher Gent, chief executive officer of Vodafone Airtouch, the world`s biggest wireless carrier. "We don`t want to be disintermediated. Our customers will remain our customers."

In April Vodafone Airtouch joined Bell Atlantic Mobile to create Verizon Wireless, a service with 21 million voice, data and paging customers. In the next few months Verizon plans to roll out a short messaging service for cell phones as well as its very own Internet portal.

Just before Sprint PCS launched its wireless Web service last September, Jerry Yang, a cofounder of Yahoo and Jeffrey Mallet, the company`s president, paid a visit to Sprint. They suggested Sprint should make Yahoo the default home page for wireless customers. "We are creating a portal that will operate from multiple devices," says Yang. "We are taking our experience in the Web and driving it to tomorrow."

But Sprint was reluctant to give up or even to share the potential revenues with Yahoo. "Yahoo was aggressive about wanting to serve as the home page for our customers," says Andrew Sukawaty, Sprint PCS` chief executive. "But we wanted to manage our own home page with the most attractive features."

They finally struck a deal but Yahoo had to give a lot of ground. As a result, when you sign on to Sprint`s Wireless Web service, you arrive at Sprint`s own home page. Companies like Yahoo and AOL are simply listed as links. And, of course, Yahoo and AOL have to share revenue with Sprint when it sends customers their way. So will Amazon.com when you buy a book. It will make the carriers more than carriers; they will be value-added resellers. That could do wonders for their stock multiples. "Let`s be clear about our intentions," says Vodafone`s Gent. "We want to support our market cap, not Yahoo`s market cap."

In March U S West launched its Web portal BrowseNow. It lets you configure the information you want to get on your phone from the phone itself, or from a PC. Then, when you access the site wirelessly, you can pull up weather, stocks, a personal calender and any other information you want.

Such developments worry Yang and AOL`s Steve Case because the wireless Web stands to be much bigger than the wired one today. GartnerGroup predicts that in three years, more than 1 billion mobile phones will be used to access the Internet. Already, in Japan, NTT Docomo, the mobile service spun off from Nippon Telegraph & Telephone last year, has 26 million voice customers and 5 million Internet customers. NTT Docomo has a market capitalization of $34 billion, surpassing NTT itself which has a market cap of just $20 billion.

By offering the services of a portal, wireless carriers also hope to extract themselves from a bidding war for customers. About 36% of wireless users switch carriers every year. Once you get your e-mail and stock updates at the Sprint portal, you will think twice before making the move to another carrier.

You can be sure Yahoo isn`t just rolling over and surrendering. Last June Yahoo paid $80 million in stock for Online Anywhere, a company whose software formats Web sites for wireless devices. Since then Yahoo has signed deals with equipment manufacturers like Palm to include its software as standard equipment in their products.

Last December AOL acquired Tegic Communications, a company that develops software which makes it easier to enter text using a phone pad. And in May, ExciteAtHome launched a new portal allowing mobile users to access the Web to get customized news, weather, directions and personal information.

Will the telcos blow their new opportunity? That remains to be seen. Providing show biz excitement is a talent built right into Yahoo`s genes--and AOL`s. You may like your local phone company but when did you ever feel passionate about it?

Infospace story has no wires attached

By Bambi Francisco and Janet Haney,
      CBS MarketWatch

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Even though the market sentiment is sour, Infospace`s chief strategist Naveen Jain knows how to humor a crowd. Jain asked a packed meeting room at the Chase H&Q technology conference whether any attendees had ever heard the Infospace story.

When only a handful of hands were raised, Jain countered "Great that means there are a lot of new buyers out there." Infospace (INSP: news, msgs) purports to be the underlying platform that will provide wireless operators the ability to offer value-added Internet services. Those services include targeted promotions, mobile commerce transactions and other location based offerings. Six carriers have already launched with Infospace`s Internet infrastructure platform. They include AirTouch, GTE, US West, Austria One and Vodaphone Australia." Despite Jain`s promising outlook for the future of the wireless and Internet convergence, many fund managers were skeptical. "There`s still pressure to deliver, " said Anurag Pandit, who manages a small-cap technology fund for John Hancock advisors. Another portfolio manager was concerned that unless Infospace signs up long-term contracts with the wireless carriers, the telecom companies could come together to create their own services and squeezing Infospace out.

wieder mal ein interview von jain:

transcript of jain cnbc interview, 5.10.00:

Steve Frank: We are joined by the chairman of Infospace.com, who presented today
at the Chase H&Q Technology Conference in San Francisco, and he joins us from
San Francisco now, live. Naveen Jain, thanks very much for joining us. Welcome to
      the Internet Investor today.

      Naveen Jain: Thank you, Steve.

Frank: You were on the program a few months ago, made some rather, shall we
say, outspoken remarks with regard to the fate of a lot of companies in the dot.com
world, said most of them won’t be with us a few years from now, a few years down
the line. Is that the kind of shakeout we are currently seeing in the market? Is that
      what’s going on right now?

Jain: Well, essentially as I said to (you) Steve, there are a lot of companies on the
Internet that really did not have any business model and as I said last time when we
were speaking together, that most of the e-tailers probably wouldn’t be around in the
next 16 to 18 months, which is what you’re really seeing at this point. And as the
market goes down, in some sense it’s really an opportunity for the smart investor to
buy the stock for the long term, to be able to buy the stocks that are going to be,
you know, 100 times, 200 times, 1,000 times where they are today, and essentially
able to separate the good companies from the bad companies.
If you look at Infospace, in respect to what the stock price is today, we have
continued to do what we do best, which is signing up new customers, whether it’s
AT&T or Verizon or whether it’s U.S. West or GTE, we’re constantly signing up new
customers, and if you look at it from our business perspective, the company is
today better positioned than it was three months ago when our stock was a 52-week
high. So we’re constantly building a company for the next century, and hopefully as
we continue to do our job, the stock market will realize its potential and essentially
      catch up to it.

Frank: But how do you respond to what’s going on in the market today? I mean,
three months ago, your stock was at $138 a share, it’s now at $45 a share. It lost
eight points today after what was a very bullish presentation from you at the Chase
H&Q conference. In the meantime, you’ve announced a stock split, you’ve
announced a new CEO, all usually catalysts, and yet your stock keeps losing
      ground.

Jain: Well, in some sense what you’re really seeing is that a nervous investor, the
first thing they do is sell the stock without understanding the fundamentals. There
were a lot momentum investors in the stock market that are essentially getting out.
Which in some sense is really good for us, because we’d rather have people owning
our stock that understand Infospace’s story, that understand fundamentally how
we’re going to change the way people access information, conduct their commerce.
And we want to educate the people so essentially the people owning our stock
really believe in how big this space could be.
Our belief is that really what we are doing is fundamentally changing the way people
are going to do these things in the next century and we are extremely comfortable
      with . . . where we are.

Frank: What about the valuations in the rest of the sector outside your own stock?
Are these more rational valuations that we’re seeing in the consumer space, for
example, in the likes of a Yahoo or an Ebay or a Priceline, or in the
business-to-business space on a CommerceOne or an Ariba, or in your own space,
      in the infrastructure space?

Jain: I really think that investors tend to always react in both ways. Sometimes the
stocks go ahead of their times and sometimes they really get overshold. And I really
fundamentally think at this point, the investors have really taken out all of the, you
know, things, and really the stocks are oversold. Because I really think if you look at
the companies like Infospace, we are very strong fundamentally today and the
business is only getting better. It’s surprising to see the stock being where it is. And
if I were an investor, a smart investor, now is a good time to be owning the stock
that you want to own for the next ten years or hundred years.

Frank: Let me ask you the risks associated with valuations where they are right
now. We’ve talked before about the pending merger of VeriSign and Network
Solutions. It was announced yesterday that that merger is going to be closing at a
much faster pace than most people had expected, and yet the stocks keep selling
off. The deal is worth less than half what it was just a few weeks ago.

Jain: Well, I mean, if you stop to look at it, it’s not what the deal is worth. If you stop
to look at the combined company, Network Solutions is still going to be owning forty
percent of the combined company, which is really what matters in the long term. If
there are synergies out there, they’re going to be realized now and they’re going to
be realized ten years from now. And it doesn’t really matter whether it was worth
$21 billion or $10 billion, because the company as such is going to continue to grow
at the same pace that people thought earlier.
And coming back to Infospace, you know, in some sense, we are doing things that
we promised to investors. We will continue to do what we promised to our investors.
And hopefully our investors are going to come back to us at more than $138 in
      price.

Frank: Got to leave it there. Naveen Jain, always a pleasure.

Jain: Thank you very much, Steve.

Frank: That was Naveen Jain of Infospace.com, joining us from San Francisco.

übrigens, kann mir bitte mal jemand erklären, was dieser spruch bedeuten soll?

"...the telecom companies could come together to create their own services and squeezing Infospace out.."

      WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 2000--
WorldSpy to Integrate InfoSpace`s Platform, Providing "Portal-Like"
Features for WorldSpy`s Free ISP Customers

InfoSpace to Offer WorldSpy`s ISP Software Through
      its Personal Desktop Portal

WorldSpy to Promote Its Free Internet Service
      Across InfoSpace`s Network Of Sites
WorldSpy.com(TM), the first free ISP supported by e-commerce, today announced that it has signed an extensive agreement, with InfoSpace, Inc. (NASDAQ: INSP), a leading provider of infrastructure services for wireless devices, merchants and Web sites.

Per the agreement, WorldSpy has licensed InfoSpace`s infrastructure services, providing WorldSpy with "portal-like" features and the scalable platform needed to support them. The new features include customizable information (news, sports scores, stock quotes and weather reports), instant messaging (compatible with Microsoft`s MSN Messenger), message boards, personal calendars and address books. The new features are now available to WorldSpy`s free ISP users on its "gateway" page (www.worldspy.net).

In addition, WorldSpy`s free ISP software will be distributed along with downloads of InfoSpace`s popular Personal Desktop Portal, an easy-to-use application that helps Internet users manage their personalized news, facilitate online and wireless communications, and organize links to favorite Web sites. WorldSpy will also promote its free ISP service across InfoSpace`s network of 3,000 affiliate sites.

"Our partnership with InfoSpace will give WorldSpy`s free Internet service tremendous exposure, and increase the `stickiness` and revenue-generating potential of its shopping portal," said Sharon Rothstein, CEO of WorldSpy.com. "Combined, the two components of the deal will make our `gateway` page a vital part of our users` online experience, and propel WorldSpy towards its goal of reaching 1 million users by third-quarter 2000."

"We are enabling companies like WorldSpy.com to build an online brand using our vast resources and comprehensive infrastructure service. InfoSpace has set the standard for providing destination and portal sites, like WorldSpy, with a full suite of Internet infrastructure services that include information, personalization, messaging, promotions and transactions services," said Naveen Jain, chairman and chief strategist of InfoSpace.

When consumers log-on to the Internet via WorldSpy, they pass through its branded gateway page. From there, they can access their e-mail account; check personalized news, stocks and weather reports; read product reviews and other consumer-generated content; compare and buy products from WorldSpy or its affiliate partners; or link to other major Internet destinations. WorldSpy does not require its ISP users to make a purchase, but by making their online experience easy, pleasurable and hassle-free, WorldSpy is creating a positive, lasting relationship with its users.

      About WorldSpy.com

Founded as an online shopping portal in 1997, WorldSpy.com (www.worldspy.com) launched the first free ISP supported by e-commerce in November 1999. Headquartered in White Plains, NY, WorldSpy provides users with nationwide, free Internet access, free e-mail, and 24-hour toll-free customer service while offering a gateway to online shopping. Unlike other free ISPs, WorldSpy does not subject its users to targeted advertising via floating ad bars, which occupy a portion of the screen, or other mechanisms. Offering free Internet access provides WorldSpy with low-cost customer acquisition, guaranteed recurring traffic, and unparalleled consumer branding opportunities.

At WorldSpy, consumers can compare thousands of products, read consumer-generated reviews and purchase a variety of name-brand merchandise at significant savings. The site also offers other value-adds such as frequent flyer miles, coupons, rebates and the ability to personalize the shopping experience. WorldSpy is one of the first portfolio companies launched by iCentennial Ventures, an Internet incubator and investor.

Oracle to Promote InfoSpace, Verity Products for Web Portals
      By David Ward

Redwood City, California, May 14 (Bloomberg) -- Oracle Corp.,
the largest database software maker, said it will promote products
from InfoSpace Inc., Verity Inc. and others as it seeks to boost
sales of its software for creating personalized business Web
      pages.

Oracle will sell news and information from InfoSpace, Factiva
Inc. and others, as well as tools such as search engines from
Verity and Autonomy Inc., with its Internet-portal software that
allows companies to build personalized Web pages for its employees
      and customers.
``Our goal is to have this catalog, this community of
venders, to complement our product,`` said John Magee, director of
      Oracle`s platform marketing group.

Oracle last year began selling its portal software, which
allows companies to create specialized Internet sites that give
employees access to both internal information and news,
entertainment or information from outside vendors.

The product is designed to work with Oracle`s largest
product, its database software, which helps companies manage and
use large amounts of corporate data such as inventory, sales leads
      and customer contacts.

Have been sitting back a bit and observing what is taking place. By and large, and with few exceptions, people are myopic and totally fixated on the short term. That is what happens during corrections. This board should be renamed the Short Term Infospace Board.

When the bull returns, it will do so with force, and there is every reason to believe this stock will participate. When a market corrects, 3 out of 4 stocks go lower. The reverse is true when the market goes higher.

If the business plan for insp plays out, there is the potential for hundreds of millions per month in revenue growth, and with such high margins, much of this will drop to the bottom line. The rate of growth is extraordinary and it will eventually get reflected in the stock.

Remember, the Microsoft millionaires didnt get rich by day trading.

Wireless Users Would Pay More for Internet Service, Study Says
      By Lisa Levenson

      Washington, May 15 (Bloomberg) -- Wireless-telephone
customers would be willing to pay $61 more for an Internet-ready
phone and an extra $13 a month for Web access on that device,
according to a study by The Strategis Group.

The report also found that 30 percent of wireless users and
49 percent of potential users are interested in a phone that would
let them send and receive e-mail. The Strategis Group reported the
findings in its CellTRAC study, which is based on quarterly
      household surveys and published semiannually.
``New users are much more likely to depend upon wireless for
all of their Internet and e-mail access, bypassing fixed Internet
access altogether,`` Elliott Hamilton, a senior vice president at
Washington-based The Strategis Group, said in a statement.

The market research and consulting firm`s study also found
that 53 percent of cell-phone users are female, and 47 percent are
male. The average monthly bill for all users was $55, with 12
percent of users choosing a prepaid service plan.

AT&T Corp.`s Wireless Group, Nextel Communications Inc. and
Sprint Corp.`s PCS Group are among the carriers offering wireless
Internet access in hopes of boosting phone usage.

Saudi prince invests $1 bln in U.S. stocks

      By Diana Abdallah

DUBAI, May 16 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia`s billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal said on Tuesday he recently invested $1 billion in 15 U.S. companies, including six Internet firms and two telecommunications giants, after studying more than 100 similar firms.

``We decided that if I need a basket of Internet companies then those are the ones,`` the prince told Reuters from his office in Riyadh.

A statement from the prince`s Kingdom Holding Company in Riyadh said his investments included $50 million each in Internet firms Amazon.com Inc (NasdaqNM:AMZN - news), eBay Inc(NasdaqNM:EBAY - news), Internet Capital Group Inc (NasdaqNM:ICGE - news), Priceline.com (NasdaqNM:PCLN - news), InfoSpace Inc (NasdaqNM:INSP - news) and Doubleclick Inc (NasdaqNM:DCLK - news).

Asked if he planned to invest more in the six Internet companies, he said: ``Sure. If the price corrects to my (target) entry level and my investment gives me a high return, then yes``.

``Internet is here to stay. People have to be selective in what stocks they choose,`` he said.

The prince said despite the growing number of Internet companies ``there is room for certain companies to stay``.

He added that his $1.05 billion investment in America Online Inc (NYSE:AOL - news) ``is my real anchor in Internet investment``.

      WORLDCOM STAKE LARGEST

The statement said the $1 billion of new investments also included stakes of $50 million each in Coca-Cola (NYSE:KO - news), Pepsi Co Inc(NYSE:PEP - news), McDonald`s Corp(NYSE:MCD - news), Walt Disney Co(NYSE:DIS - news), Ford Motor Co (NYSE:F - news), Gillette (NYSE:G - news) and Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG - news).

His largest single purchase was a $200 million stake in telecommunications giant WorldCom Inc (NasdaqNM:WCOM - news), and he also bought $150 million worth of AT&T Corp(NYSE:T - news), it said.

The announcement was made more than a month after the prince -- known for his high-profile international investments -- said he invested another $1 billion in U.S. technology stocks.

Alwaleed`s new investments raised the value of his technology, media and telecommunications portfolio to $7.8 billion, his company statement said.

``The investments were made when stock prices suffered several blows over the past few months. The prince made the bulk of the acquisitions right when the market corrected in mid-April,`` the statement said.

``Jittery prices and panic situations are ideal for investing provided one knows exactly when to buy. This is the prince`s trademark,`` it quoted a source close to the prince as saying.

Alwaleed -- who also has substantial investments in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East -- was ranked last year by Forbes magazine as the richest businessman outside the United States.

The 43-year-old prince, who is a nephew of Saudi King Fahd, told Reuters last month he was taking a cautious approach to the technology sector and would not be swept away by dotcom frenzy.

In Washington, USA Today reported on Tuesday that none of the prince`s new investments was large enough to require disclosure under Securities and Exchange Commission regulations.

It quoted him as saying he was publicly disclosing the investments as a courtesy because of his ``stature nationally and in the Middle East``.

``It`s important to have the public know that slowly, but surely, I am shifting from old economy to new economy (stocks),`` he said.

The prince also holds investments in banks, hotels, broadcasting, airlines, computers, cars and real estate.

Long and strong on wireless!!!!

InfoSpace Goes Live with Onyx Front Office; Leading Provider of Infrastructure Services For Wireless Devices, Merchants and Web Sites, Deploys Leading e-Business Solution

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2000--Onyx Software Corporation (Nasdaq:ONXS), a leading supplier of enterprise-wide customer-centric e-business solutions, today announced that InfoSpace (Nasdaq:INSP) has completed an enterprise-wide implementation of Onyx Front Office 2000.

InfoSpace is a leading provider of commerce, information and communication infrastructure services for wireless carriers, merchants and Web sites. InfoSpace has a blue-chip affiliate network that consists of over 25 wireless carriers worldwide, relationships with all five regional bell operating companies and leading merchant banks that provide services to thousands of merchants, and over 3,000 Web sites reaching over 90% of all Internet users.
"In today`s Internet economy, time is critical and customer loyalty is key," said InfoSpace chairman, Naveen Jain. "Onyx understood this from the start and provided the roadmaps and Web technology we needed to get up and running quickly."

      Choosing a Solution for Customer-Centric E-Business

InfoSpace began its selection process for a front office system in early 1999, shortly after the Redmond, Wash.-based company went through its initial public offering. InfoSpace needed to integrate the efforts of its home office with its New York and San Francisco-based branch offices and required a solution that could handle rapid growth while customizing with ease.

"We`re growing quickly and needed a technology solution that can both meet our business needs and grow with us as our company scales," said InfoSpace product manager Doug Irvine. "We wanted a solution that would help us share information internally, better acquire and retain customers and help us work with our partners over the Web. We felt Onyx had the best technology, would work with us to meet our implementation timeline, and would be there to help us succeed. We are extremely pleased with how effectively the Onyx team helped us identify critical business processes and map the technology to meet our goals. We feel very positive about the sophisticated customer-centric system we now have in place with Onyx."

      InfoSpace Growth Expands Onyx Project

During the Onyx implementation, InfoSpace grew from 170 to 500 employees. The Onyx team adjusted its technology and implementation strategy mid-project in order to incorporate a growing number of users. Easy-to-change configurations in Onyx Front Office allowed Onyx consultants to accommodate this flux and deliver promised capabilities in just 10 weeks. Onyx Front Office has been implemented in three departments: project management, sales, and customer service. The goals of the project were to consolidate information from across the enterprise into a centralized database, to streamline processes, and to coordinate sales contract management.

With the automation of contract management using Onyx`s Form Manager, regional sales representatives receive timely e-mail notifications when a contract in their sales territory is up for renewal. This provides the sales rep with a critical prompt to renew an existing contract and initiate a follow-up sales plan, which has already resulted in return on investment. In addition to meeting core implementation objectives, the InfoSpace project management team can also monitor Web use, allowing them to leverage their customers` Web usage, compile a history of their tendencies and preferences, and use this information to provide a more thorough and responsive customer experience. InfoSpace is also in the process of integrating Onyx Front Office with JD Edwards` back-office functionality.

"At InfoSpace, we offer the best of the Web anytime, anywhere, and on any device, including wireless devices. We expected the same scalability and flexibility from our front office solution, and we are delighted with our choice of Onyx Front Office," said Irvine.
