Basis Indikatoren
Export Structure:
Elektronik 37%
Electr. Engineering 21%
Petrochemie 15%

Technology stocks take lead as market slides further
AGENCIES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Singapore shares closed marginally lower in modest trade yesterday, with the main market index falling for the fourth straight session on declines in technology stocks.
The Straits Times Index closed down 6.44 points at 2,135.05.
The DBS-50 Index edged up 0.68 point to 698.72 points, while the UOB-Sesdaq Index gained 0.42 point to 100.88 points.
Losers led gainers by 175 to 106.
"The market was boring. Nobody wants to trade," a dealer said.
Proprietary traders dominated the market, with institutional investors conspicuously absent, he said.
Dealers said the market was expected to stay locked in a marginal range next week as foreign funds remained scant, with the Straits Times Index likely to see a base at 2,050 points.
Technology stocks ignored the rebound in the Nasdaq Stock Market on Thursday as the outlook for these companies remained uncertain.
Concerns over rising global crude oil prices were beginning to be a factor affecting market sentiment, particularly in the run-up to the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries meeting tomorrow. Oil producers hope to come up with measures to arrest the rapid increase in petroleum costs.
Some energy industry-related stocks gained as investors hoped they would benefit from high oil prices.
