VA Linux Systems ( LNUX / 929398)
Unternehmensbereich :
VA Linux Systems, Inc. is a provider of integrated Linux-based solutions, offering a single point of contact for all Linux systems, software and service needs, including the operation of Linux-focused web sites. For the three months ended 10/29/99, net revenues totaled $14.8 million, up from $2.4 million. Net loss applicable to Common totaled $15 million, up from $97 thousand. Results reflect introduction of a new Internet server product, offset by increased personnel expenses.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=lnux&d=1d
a) Der gestrige Intraday-Chart (+12%, siehe Intraday-Chart von Yahoo)

VA Linux posts larger loss but revenues jump
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2000 8:34 PM
- Reuters
SAN FRANCISCO. Feb 24 (Reuters) - VA Linux Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:LNUX), which develops computer software and services that run the upstart Linux operating system, on Thursday posted a loss for its initial quarter as a public company but topped expectations with revenues six times higher than a year ago.
VA Linux, which went public in December with a record-setting first-day percentage gain of almost 700 percent, posted a net loss of $11.6 million, or 50 cents a diluted share, for its second quarter ended Jan. 28. That compares with a loss of $1.8 million, or 44 cents, on a smaller number of shares outstanding, in the corresponding quarter a year earlier.
On an operating basis, Sunnyvale, Calif.-based VA showed a loss of $8.4 million, or 36 cents a share, excluding deferred compensation charges of $4.2 million associated with stock options issued for recruiting and marketing. The company also had a one-time, non-recurring charge of $1 million for consulting fees paid in stock before the IPO.
According to First Call/Thomson Financial, the consensus estimate among analysts was a loss of 21 cents a share, but analysts and the company both said the First Call estimate was compiled using about 38 to 40 million shares outstanding. The actual number of shares outstanding was 11.6 million in its fiscal second quarter.
"There is a lot of the point-and-click crowd out there(...damit meint er warscheinlich uns, oder?) that saw the (net loss) of 50 cents and said, `Oh they missed the number,`" said Walter Winnitzki, an analyst with Chase Hambrecht & Quist. "The earnings were right where they should be...The quality of those sales is really good to see."
In after-hours trading, VA Linux shares were trading at around 119-13/4, slipping from their closing price of 124-3/4, down 2-3/8 on the Nasdaq. The results were released after the regular U.S. trading ended.
"We beat analysts` estimates on revenue, we beat estimates on gross margins and we were consistent with estimates for expenses," VA Linux founder and chief executive Larry Augustin said in a phone interview. "Linux is growing fairly strong and we are growing faster than Linux."
In the quarter, new customers accounted for 49 percent of total revenues, including companies such as NetLedger Inc., Vstream, Abba Technologies and Cnet Inc.
VA said services accounted for 1.5 percent of revenues in the second quarter, up from 0.2 percent in the first quarter. Executives on the conference call said they expected services to represent about 5 percent of revenues in the third quarter, based on the current backlog of orders.
"Their services business is really starting to have momentum," Winnitzki said.
Linux is a version of the Unix operating system developed by Finnish programmer Linus Torvalds and is maintained by a far-flung group of programmers.
