Ship Finance International Shares Rise After Analyst Upgrades Stock to 'Buy' From 'Sell'
NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of oil tanker owner and operator Ship Finance International Ltd. jumped Thursday after a Citi Investment Research analyst upgraded the stock to "Buy" from "Sell," citing his increased confidence in the company's growth.
Shares rose $1.77, or 7.1 percent, to $26.57 in afternoon trading. Shares have traded between $21.15 and $31.78 in the past year.
Analyst John Kartsonas attributed his two-notch rating change to the company's expanding fleet, strong management and growing peer group.
Since June, the company has entered into agreements to acquire five newly built container ships, one secondhand container ship and seven offshore supply vessels, which the analyst said diversify its fleet and will allow the company to outperform the struggling tanker market.
Kartsonas also said the company's established management team will lead the company to expand and said the company's stable cash flows lower its risk.
"Overall, we believe it is time for investors to view Ship Finance as something more than a typical shipping stock," he said.
He raised his price target on the stock to $27.
