Welcher Nickel-hype

Nickel loses its electric car fizz, realizes it's still a steel play: Russell
LAUNCESTON, Australia, Nov 20 (Reuters) - The nickel market is learning that there is a difference in believing you are the next big thing in battery metals and the reality that you are actually still beholden to the Chinese steel sector.
Nickel was one of the darlings at last month's annual London Metal Exchange Week, with everybody from producers, to traders and consumers talking up its prospects on the back of the expected surge in electric vehicles.
The euphoria helped drive benchmark LME nickel to a more than two-year closing high of $12,920 a tonne on Nov. 6, but since then the price has stumbled.
Nickel closed at $11,575 a tonne on Nov. 17, a drop of 10 percent in under two weeks, while Shanghai Futures Exchange contracts also showed a similar decline, dropping 9.5 percent from their peak on Nov. 7 to end at 93,630 yuan ($14,144) a tonne on Nov. 17.
The positive long-term outlook for nickel as a key component for batteries for electric vehicles hasn't changed in the past two weeks since LME Week, but what has changed is the market view of the short-term outlook for China's vast steel sector.
About 70 percent of global nickel supplies are used in making stainless and other steel products, compared to about just 4 percent in batteries.
While the use of nickel in batteries is growing at an annual rate of close 6 percent, according to the Nickel Institute, it will take several years before this demand becomes sufficient to act as a standalone driver of prices.
In the meantime, steel is where the action is, and given that China represents about half of global steel output, it isn't hard to see why this sector is key to nickel's fortunes.

Cobalt offtake-agreement VW voraus???
Cobalt hedging not mining the route for VW in EV drive, official saysBERLIN, Nov 16 (Reuters) –
Volkswagen is not looking to secure long-term supplies of cobalt, a key ingredient of electric-car batteries, by investing in mines, a senior official at the automaker said.
Demand for cobalt is expected to soar as carmakers rush to embrace electric vehicles (EVs) in response to governments around the world cracking down on pollution.
Volkswagen (VW), which is struggling to draw a line under its 2015 emissions test-cheating scandal, plans to invest more than 20 billion euros ($23.6 billion) in battery-powered cars by 2030 to challenge Tesla in creating a mass market.
Asked whether VW would be prepared to invest in mines to safeguard future supplies of battery metals, Gerhard Praetorius, head of sustainability at VW group, told Reuters: "As far as I can see, options are being examined but not in this direction."
"Hedging by means of long-term (supplier) contracts is really the way to control such new issues (of securing materials supplies)," Praetorius said.
Asked what VW does to ensure that its cobalt supplies do not come from child labour in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Praetorius said:
"We are now in the midst of starting a process by which we can retrace very well" where the cobalt comes from. He gave no details.
Two months ago, Reuters reported that the world's largest automaker had asked producers to submit proposals on supplying cobalt for up to 10 years from 2019.
VW, which aims to make up to three million EVs a year by 2025, wanted all the cobalt tender proposals submitted by the end of September, the sources had said.
Praetorius declined to comment on procurement issues.
Kobalt
We Are Approaching The Cobalt Cliff
Nick French - November 17, 2017
Nick has been following the metals for over twenty-five years He feels the coming period will be a fascinating time for cobalt. Cobalt is a by-product of copper and nickel mining, and as a result, the supply can’t be easily adjusted. Also, 65% of supply comes from the unpredictable and logistically tricky Congo region.
If the cobalt price reaches $100 a pound, it will still not justify the creation of a nickel or copper mine to produce cobalt since the cost would be upwards of six billion dollars. He sees nothing in the next five years that will put a cap on the price. Current demand is near 100,000 tons per year, and there are very few places where cobalt use can be cut. It’s used in alloys for products like jet engines and medical devices, and this usage demand is still increasing by 6% per annum.
In the next five to ten years there are no alternatives to cobalt use in lithium-ion batteries. The only thing that can change is the ratios of the battery metals used which may halve the amount required per battery. However, battery demand itself is expected to rise ten-fold as electric vehicle production grows.
There are always large lead times between cap-ex and actual mine production. Not much additional production is coming online in the next five years. He discusses two projects both in the Congo that may produce 40,000 tons per year. Everyone agrees that the shortage by 2025 will be 170,000 to 200,000 tons per year.
There are very few pure cobalt plays. Cobalt 27 is one such play as they have 2100 tons warehoused in the United States.

Celsius Resources (ASX: CLA)
Celsius Resources (ASX: CLA)
Research Update: 15 November 2017
Recent Discovery Promising; Price Target Under Review
Project has exceeded expectations
Price Target Under Review as the Asset and Cobalt Price Surprise to the Upside
a. The initial exploration target exceeds original Aesir estimates. Additionally, the grades from recent drill holes are suggesting the deposit is higher grade than originally forecasted. Both variables will dramatically increase in-situ rock value.
b. Met work suggests that the processing may be simpler than even originally conceived thus lowering capex and opex requirements
c. According to Borg, the most recent discovery carries some large implications for the scale of the mineralized system.
i. “This discovery of deeper and more intense mineralisation is an exciting development for the Project, as it demonstrates significant potential upside to the scale of the mineralised system. This is the first occurrence of semi-massive sulphides at the Project and adds weight to our theory that a more significant feeder system for the mineralisation may exist”.
ii. Demonstrates size upside (exploration target could easily double)
iii. Should be higher grade based on visuals of the drill core
iv. Better, more intense sulphide zones still to be uncovered (this most recent hole was not targeted at any geophysical anomaly)

wären vom damaligen tief ca 60% divi aufs damals eingesetzte kapital,

damit fährt man eigentlich gut.
