      Noch ein Auszug daraus:

The deal with Uranium One Group was for feasibility and pre-investment studies, he said, adding multiple tests with Russian technology on the salt flats had shown a lithium recovery rate over 80%, with a purity of around 99.5%.

ob er das ernsthaft glaubt? Haben die Unternehmen schon alle Genehmigungen? Machbarkeitsstudien?

Fixing deep-sea mining damage would be double the cost of extraction -study
LONDON (Reuters) - June 29, 2023 - Extracting minerals from the ocean floor could negatively impact biodiversity on a scale of up to 25 times greater than land-based mining, and fixing the damage would cost twice as much as extraction, a new report said on Thursday.

Imerys to produce lithium in UK for EV batteries

PARIS, June 29 2023 (Reuters) - French minerals group Imerys (IMTP.PA) on Thursday announced plans to mine lithium in the UK and said the site could supply two-thirds of batteries for Britain's electric vehicles by 2030.

Imerys aims to produce around 20,0000 tonnes a year of lithium carbonate equivalent by the end of the decade at its mining site in Cornwall, southwest England, in partnership with British Lithium.

After unveiling French project, Imerys sees lithium potential in UK's Cornwall

PARIS, Nov 7 2022 (Reuters) - Minerals company Imerys (IMTP.PA) has detected lithium in the British region of Cornwall and sees potential for its second foray into mining of the electric-vehicle battery metal after a French project unveiled last month, executives said on Monday.

The group this year undertook an assessment of its kaolin mining site in Cornwall and obtained an initial confirmation of the presence of lithium, Guillaume Delacroix, senior vice president in charge of performance minerals for EMEA, said during an investor presentation.

Imerys is pursuing exploration to establish the viability of mining lithium in the zone and views its kaolin operations in Cornwall's longstanding mining industry as an advantage should it decide to develop a project, he added.

Other companies have been prospecting for lithium in Cornwall as Britain, like the rest of Europe, seeks to reduce its reliance on imported minerals for electric vehicle batteries.

Imerys announced in late October a plan to produce around 34,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide annually for at least 25 years from 2028, after finding a large deposit under a kaolin mine it operates in central France.

Bolivia seals $1.4 bln lithium deals with Russia's Rosatom, China's Guoan
LA PAZ, June 29 (Reuters) - Bolivia has signed lithium agreements with Russian state nuclear firm Rosatom and China's Citic Guoan Group, the South American country's government said on Thursday, as it looks to develop its huge but largely untapped resources of the battery metal.

The deals, which envisage total investment of $1.4 billion, follow a similar agreement in January with giant Chinese battery maker CATL after a lengthy bidding process as firms from the United States to Latin America looked to secure supply.

"With these deals our country will be able to produce some 100,000 (metric) tons of lithium carbonate in 2025 in the Uyuni, Coipasa and Pasto Grandes salt flats," Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energy Franklin Molina said at an event in La Paz.

Bolivia's iconic salt flats are home to the world's largest lithium resources at 21 million tons, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, but the country has long struggled to ramp up industrial production or develop commercially viable reserves.

Australia’s critical minerals industry needs quicker permits, not subsidies, BHP says
Zitat von Oginvest: Australia’s critical minerals strategy does not need the sugar hit of more subsidies as good projects will find investment, but the country needs to hasten mine development timeframes and rework new workplace legislation, BHP’s CEO said on Tuesday.

BHP CEO Mike Henry’s comments came a week after Australia, one of the world’s biggest suppliers of raw minerals, outlined a strategy on how it will work with investors and international partners to build a critical minerals processing industry.

The strategy, which aims to see Australia as a significant producer by 2030 of critical minerals that are key to the global energy transition, drew criticism from some who were hoping for larger subsidies, shorter regulatory approval timeframes and additions to its list of critical minerals.

The strategy “is not enough,” Henry told reporters on the sidelines of a mining conference in Brisbane.

“There’s a big movement underway in the U.S. right now towards permitting reform. Australia needs to do that.”

The government needs to address the overlap between state and national regulation as well as speed up permitting, he said.
      ...

As an example of where capital will not flow, Henry said BHP would not invest further in Queensland, where the state government held no consultation before hiking coal royalties last year to the highest of any jurisdiction in the world.

Queensland on Tuesday announced a new critical minerals development strategy to attract investment to the state.

BHP estimates the world will need an additional $100 billion per year in capital investment in the resources sector to get on track to meet the Paris aligned 1.5C scenario, he said.

Translated into metals demand, Henry said that means twice as much copper, steel and potash and four times as much nickel, BHP’s major products.

Commodity prices will need to jump...

Zitat von Oginvest: Commodity prices will need to jump to meet demand for energy transition – Anglo American

BRISBANE - 27th June 2023 - Commodity prices will have to rise to attract investment from ever more complex locations to meet the urgency of the energy transition, Anglo American CEO Duncan Wanblad said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a mining conference, Wanblad said commodity price forecasting was a "mug's game," particularly in the short term, however with mines in ever more difficult locations, long permitting times, growing costs and rising demand, the current price environment would eventually have to change.

"The reality is, these materials are becoming scarcer and scarcer the closer we get to 2050. Assets are less and less available and those that are around today are finding themselves at the top of mining inflation curves," he said.

These mines typically suffer from falling mineral quality and reserves, ore hardness and other difficulties, while permitting for new mines is still taking a very long time.

"If you add all of this together ... it does say to me the books will balance and it has to ultimately reflect in price."
