Pacific Internet Commences Operations In Thailand
      · Officially launches award-winning Internet access services
      · Bangkok to act as springboard for nationwide presence
      · Aims to be among the top three players

SINGAPORE (Thursday, June 1, 2000) - Asia’s leading Internet service
provider, Pacific Internet Limited (NASDAQ: PCNTF) officially launched
operations in Thailand today, offering its award-winning Internet access
services in the capital city of Bangkok.

Pacific Internet Thailand (PITH) has over 200 dealers in Bangkok and
intends to use Bangkok as a springboard to expand into another five Thai
provinces over the next few months. The company expects to establish a
nationwide presence by end of this year.

“Pacific Internet is now fully operational in six countries. This is an
important achievement in our efforts to develop Pacific Internet into a
regional powerhouse with the aim of dominating the Asian Internet space,”
said Mr Nicholas Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Internet Limited
at a ceremony marking the official launch of PITH in Bangkok, Thailand.

The start of operations follows Pacific Internet’s announcement in January
2000 of its acquisition of a majority stake in Thai ISP IT Star Co.Ltd.,
now renamed Pacific Internet (Thailand) Ltd. Pacific Internet plans to
invest SGD$10 million over two years to expand its network infrastucture to
accommodate the expected rapid growth in its Thai customer base.

According to published reports, Thailand, which has a population of 62
million, has only 200,000 ISP subscribers and about 800,000 users. The PC
penetration rate is about two percent. Based on research conducted by The
Thailand Internet Service Providers Club, the Thai Internet market is
expected to grow by 35 percent a year, with the total market value expected
to surpass SGD$180 million by 2003.

“Our goal is to become one of Thailand’s top three Internet service
providers within 12 months. We will kick-off an intense promotions campaign
to raise awareness of the Pacific Internet brand, as well as to market our
suite of value-added services that is backed up by our technical expertise,
engineering excellence and 24 hour, 365 days a year customer support. We
will make Pacific Internet Thailand the talk of the town,” said Ms Araya
Chancharoensin, Sales and Marketing Director of PITH.

Mr. Lee added, “Our ability to consistently deliver high service levels
across the region has won us many accolades. With such a track record
behind us, I am confident Pacific Internet will successfully penetrate the
Thai market and take its place as one of the country’s best ISPs.”

Apart from individual consumer dial-up subscribers, PITH will also focus
its marketing efforts on the corporate market, providing business dial-up
accounts, leased lines, web-hosting and other value-added corporate
products, such as managed fire-wall services, among others.

PacNet Expects to Maintain at Least 30% Revenue Growth in 2000
      By Anuchit Nguyen

Bangkok, June 1 (Bloomberg) -- Pacific Internet Ltd., the first Asian Internet company to trade in the U.S., said it expects to maintain at least 30 percent revenue growth this year on improved results in Australia and other Asian countries outside its Singapore base.

The company also said it would increase investment outside Singapore in a bid to foster growth. Earnings in its home market, which accounts for about two thirds of revenue, are under pressure as rivals offer free Internet access.

``We will continue to have a significant revenue growth from Australia and other Asian countries,`` Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Lee said in an interview.

PacNet slashed Singapore service rates earlier this year by up to 70 percent to compete with other providers.

In the first quarter ended March 31, sales rose 34 percent to S$26 million ($15 million) as the company signed on more subscribers in Australia and the Philippines. Profit, though, fell to S$267,000 from S$2.8 million as expansion costs piled up.

PacNet will increase investment to improve service in markets such as India, Hong Kong and Thailand, said Lee, who was in Bangkok to formally open the company`s Thai operation.

``It`s the initial investments,`` said Lee. ``If you don`t do it now, you will not be able to grow in the future.``

Within the next year, PacNet aims to become one of the three biggest Internet service providers in Thailand, where less than 2 percent of the population of 62 million are on-line. The company will invest S$10 million to build its local network and market itself.

Of Thailand`s one million Internet users, only about 300,000 pay for access.

The Internet business is still controlled by the Communication Authority of Thailand, which collects 32 percent of revenue from all of the country`s 18 licensed Internet service providers.

Dow Jones Newswire Service, Broker access only

Nasdaq-listed Pacific Internet Ltd. a Singapore based Internet service provider says its planned secondary listing in Singapore is aimed at improving trading in its shares.
"The first reason is that there will be trading in the Asian day...24 hours something is happening, that is positive for the stock," Nicholas lee, Pacnet`s CEO told Dow Jones Newswires in a recent interview.
Lee added that Pacnet`s size in the Singapore market will also help ensure it receives better coverage from analysts.
"Pacnet`s sixe is quite large in terms of Singapore...we are looking at about S$500 million," he said. "When you are that size all the local analysts have to cover you...and that creates more momentum."
They reckon that Pacnet may raise about US$20 million through the secondary listing.
Lee said the challenge for Pacific Internet is to expand in the region as its home market is becoming saturated.
"I think in two years time if we don`t double our subscriber base, we have failed," says Lee. "Singapore has reached the saturation point" but the region is full of opportunities.
"We had to drop our prices quite significantly in some cases," Lee Said But I don`t know how long these guys are going to last as free."
The article goes into further detail about PI, mostly the stuff you all know, hope this helps.

INTERVIEW-Internet in India could grow through cable TV
      By Uday Khandeparkar
BOMBAY, June 5 (Reuters) - India`s lack of infrastructure
has not deterred Internet firms from entering the crowded
market and some have approached it with an array of
technological solutions, including the country`s chaotic cable
      television network.
In a country where there are not enough telephone lines,
Internet on cable television could be the fastest way to grow,
Mohana Pillai, President, Pacific Internet (India) Pvt Ltd,
told Reuters in an interview on Monday.
"Cable in India is quite unique, the only place on earth
where you have more cable connections than phone connections,"
Pillai said, but added that this was not the only technology
      Pacnet was adopting.
"You have between 30 and 40 million cable points and I
don`t think there are even 27 million telephones yet, Pillai
      said.
Pillai said another advantage of accessing the Internet
market in India through cable television was it was unregulated
and was not subject to India`s stifling bureaucracy.
      STRING IT THROUGH THE TREES
"The flair for private enterprise in India is very high, so
people throw cables over trees and buildings and you have a
cable system. Whereas for phones, you have a government
monopoly, a bureaucracy that moves at a very deliberate speed,"
      Pillai said.
A limiting factor though is not all the cable is Internet
ready and Pacnet`s partnership with the expatriate Indian-owned
Hinduja group was meant to solve the problem.
But the partnership failed as Pacnet and the U.K-based
Hinduja group, which runs a cable television network in India,
could not agree on how much stake each side should get.
Pacnet is now seeking another partner to provide Internet
through cable TV, but in the meanwhile is also using other
technologies like the conventional telephone, modem links and
the new asynchronous digital subscriber link.
Pacnet is not wedded to any single technology and would
adopt whatever the market dictated, he said.
"We are technologically agnostic. The market characteristic
says cable should go first, we will go cable."
Pacific Internet India, a fully owned subsidiary of
Singapore based Pacific Internet Ltd (Pacnet) PCNTF.O, the
only wholly foreign-owned Internet Service Provider in India
applied for a licence in 1998 and faced several bureaucratic
      hurdles.
It launched its service only three months ago, has got
15,000 subscribers in three cities, and is aiming to raise the
number to 150,000 within the year.
"We will double the number of subscribers again in 2001 and
hope to be among the top five ISPs in the country," he said,
but declined to give any revenue projections.
Merrill Lynch in a report last month estimated the number
of Internet subscribers in India would rise to two million in
      2001 from 850,000 this year.
Pacnet, a unit of the Singapore-government owned
multi-industry group SembCorp Industries Ltd SCIL.SI,
operates as an ISP in Singapore, Australia, Philippines,
Hongkong, and Thailand, and has a total of 350,000 subscribers
      at present.
India, which recently joined China to become the only
countries in the world to have a billion people, could be
Pacnet`s largest market in subscriber numbers, Pillai said.
The company would raise funds domestically to expand its
      Indian operations, he said.
"I think we are probably looking at anywhere between nine
to 18 months," Pillai said when asked about plans for an
initial public offering in India. He declined to put a figure
      on its likely size.
In the past three months, Pacnet`s shares on the Nasdaq
have fallen along with the rest of the sector, falling from $74
      7/8 on February 18 to $22 on June 2.

      ----------------------------------------------------------

      From: Allan Tan <allan.tan@pacific.net.sg>
      Subject: Reply to Shareholder`s concerns

      Dear Mr .....,

Thank you for taking time to share your concerns with us. If permitted, Iwould like to share with you our views with regards to our recent business announcements and the performance of the stock price in NASDAQ.

Firstly, the state of our business:

      - Our performance so far:

As of 1Q2000, we recorded a 34% increase in revenues, and to date, havelogged in 3 quarters of profits since our listing in Feb 1999. We expect our revenues to continue to grow aggressively, mainly due to our expansion in India from current 3 cities to 25 cities by year end, and continued organic growth in SEA. In total, our subscriber base ex-Singapore has grown by 156% year on year, and we expect growth to continue in these greenfield markets in the medium term.

      - Our plans:

The near term goal is, and has always been, to provide E-commerce and Value- added services to our growing base of ISP subscribers. While we are still predominantly earning the bulk of our revenues from our ISP business (70% from dial-ups, and 19% from corporate leased lines), we have already made a significant step in the e-commerce arena by acquiring a leading bricks and mortar corporate travel business (Safe andMansfield), and is currently developing an e-commerce travel portal(www.safe2travel.com)to tap the B2B business in the regional corporate travel market. We hopeto launch this portal by 3Q2000. On another note, our value-added services revenue has doubled yoy, albeit from a small base, to contributeto 9% of total revenues.

In the longer term, we intend to deploy broadband internet and telco in selected markets, with the eventual goal of providing a complete and total communications service package to consumers and corporates alike.

For a start, we will be offering selected telecommunication services in Singapore (a market worth approximately US$1 billion pa) by 3Q 2000 - the recent liberalisation of the telco market in Singapore will allow us to do so with virtually no additional infrastructural costs, and at lower running costs due to the availability of cheaper connection charges frominternational players in the market.

To finally converge, we are currently testing LMDS services in Singapore, which allows a combination of wireless broadband internet, video on demand, voice over IP, high speed data transmission and conventional voice calls to be carried out on the same infrastructure. We expect to offer a complete communication package to corporates and consumers by theend of 2000.

      Our competitive advantages:

      - We are the only ISP who is present in six countries across Asia (which we eventually will grow to ten by year end - Taiwan, Japan, Korea and China are our current targets). We have never, and will not, waver from our goal of becoming the only truly Asian ISP of choice.

      - We currently enjoy significant value derived from the premium ofcontrol.

      - We have a strong track record for implementation due to ourcookie-cutter method which gives us a significant competitive advantage in quick ISP start ups and roll-outs in new regional markets.

      The challenges we face:

      - the challenge of finding alliances and acquisitions with real long term value and great potential in a fast-changing environment. Our recent cessation of talks with Hinduja in India on our proposed cable venture is reflective of this challenge - however, we are always looking for opportunities in the region that offers us control premium, highpotential returns, and fair/acceptable prices.

      - the misplaced perception that there is a disadvantage of Pacific Internet being majority owned by Sembcorp, a leading Singapore conglomerate with interests ranging from Infrastructural industries to Information Technology services, and for reasons of its own, does not exert any influence on our business activities and execution of our strategies.

With regards to our current performance in NASDAQ:

      - the recent market downturn has been harsh not just for PacNet, but on the industry as a whole. There are risks that are beyond our control when it comes to investment in any stock in the market. However, we believe that the shakeout will result in a few dominant players controlling the Asian block, and we are convinced that we will be one of them.

      - share buy backs have been proposed in the past as a means to reduce the supply in the market. However, given the required cash outlay , and the
fact that our shares are already relatively illiquid, it would be better for the company to invest the money in growing and strengthening the
      fundamentals of our business.

PACIFIC INTERNET VOTED BEST ASIAN ISP FOR SECOND YEAR RUNNING

Singapore, (Wednesday, June 07, 2000) - SINGAPORE (Wednesday, June 7, 2000) - Asia`s leading Internet service provider, Pacific Internet Limited (NASDAQ: PCNTF) earned top honours at Telecom Asia`s annual Readers` Choice Awards 2000 by clinching the "Best Asian Internet Service Provider (ISP)" title for a second year running.
Pacific Internet`s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Nicholas Lee, received the award at the CommunicAsia 2000 Gala Dinner held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel yesterday. This year`s other nominees in the best-of-breed ISP category were Starhub and Cable & Wireless-Hong Kong Telecom.

"This is our second award in as many years in the regional ISP category. Not only is it a great honour to be recognised by peers within the industry, but it also tells us that Pacific Internet is on the right track in its growth path," said Mr. Lee.

Telecom Asia`s Readers` Choice Awards are given annually to companies voted best in the Asia Pacific telecommunications industry. The poll asked 20,000 Telecom Asia readers spanning over 11 countries, including the six countries which Pacific Internet operates, to select their preferred service providers.

Published by Advanstar in Hong Kong, Telecom Asia is the leading magazine for the Asian telecom professional delivering the highest-qualified subscriber database in the region, and reaches 40% more subscribers in the key areas of Asia Pacific than any other telecom publication in the region

      Hallo Reiners!

      CORPORATE

Pacific Internet to set up 3 gateways

      Sanjay K. Pillai in Bangalore

Pacific Internet (India) Pvt Ltd, the category-A (pan-India) private Internet service provider in Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bangalore, will soon be setting up private gateways in the three cities.

Additionally, Pacific Internet is also in talks with cable operators in Mumbai to provide Internet over cable after talks with the Hinduja owned IMC cable network broke down due to differences over pricing.

Mohana Pillai, president, Pacific Internet (India), said the company would be ready to offer services from its private gateways by July and the necessary approval would be received within the next ten days.

Pacific Internet will be using a satellite network to set-up the private gateways as fibre optic networks are still out of bounds for private players, and is a monopoly of the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL).

The company has primarily looked at aligning itself with leading cable operators in the country to offer its services and is supplying modems that have the DOCSIS standard, which is the international standard in cable modems.

While, the company is in talks with leading cable operators in Mumbai, Pillai, refused to name them, and said that Pacific Internet would be looking at a series of tie-ups with cable operators at the national-level and the city-level.

According to Pillai, the company would soon be expanding into four more cities within the next two months. "We will be commencing operations in Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Ahmedabad, in the next eight weeks," he said.

Within just three and a half months of operations the company has notched up a subscriber base of about 15,000 users, out of which about 95 per cent belong to the dial-up category.

Currently, Pacific Internet is in talks with leading corporates in the International Technology Park Ltd, in Bangalore for setting up dedicated lines with bandwidths of 64 kbps and 128 kbps, respectively, and would be announcing deals to this effect within the next two weeks, Pillai said.

The company which brought in an estimated $10 million through the FIPB route in the third quarter of last year is expected to bring in additional funds to meet the cost of its ambitious expansion plans.

While refusing to divulge the exact amount of funds to be brought in, Pillai said that it would suffice to meet the cost of its pan-India operations.

With leading private Internet service providers entering into tie-ups with portals for content, Pacific Internet is also looking at city-specific portals for either acquisitions or strategic alliances.

Pacific Internet, Singapore (the parent company), has a portal called "pacfusion.com" and all acquisitions or alliances in India will be routed through this portal, Pillai explained.

Pacfusion.com had recently taken over the second largest travel agency in Singapore (Safe & Mansfield) for about $8 million. This would help the company to leverage its interests in the Internet arena with that of the travel industry, which is booming over the web.

pacfusion.com already has arrangements with portals like ZDnet.com and CNet.com for content and is in talks with leading travel operators for either outright acquisitions or striking of strategic alliances.

With plans to expand to 25 cities across India by the end of this year, Pacific Internet will be following the franchisee route in the regional centres. In all the major cities the company will be setting up its own offices and expects to break-even in its Indian operations within a time frame of the next two to four years.

Bei PACNET sollte sich langfristiges Handeln auszahlen.

There has been a major change in fundamentals with this company. First of all, when they IPOed they were just an ISP present in 3 Asian countries (Singapore, Hong Kong and Philippines. Right now they are in 6 Asian Countries (add Australia, India and Thailand). Although their subscriber growth seemed anemic, their growth OUTSIDE SINGAPORE (which is currently their major subscriber base) grew 156% from last year alone and may outpace the Singapore subscriber base this year. They were voted as the BEST Asian ISP this year!

They have started PacFusion as a B2B and B2C portal. At first, when Pacfusion was introduced, it seemed like a joke. Now they have online banking, online stock trading, etc. They bought the 2nd largest Travel Agency in Singapore and are currently in the process of transforming this to an online Travel Agency like Travelocity! And they have the personel to do this.

They also have a lot of JVs with ZDNet, Channel New Asia (which includes MTV Asia), www.com, mail.com, etc.

Their only problem is their PR. Most US investors don`t know anything about this. Also, the current bear market did not help this stock... Also, the fact that PacNet is run by Asians without any American Partner might have prejudiced this stock. (Unlike China.com which has AOL to back it up although China.com has 4 times PacNet`s valuation. But it`s income is less than that of PacNet and they are losing money!)

SembCorps (PacNet`s parent company), seemingly to woffle on their ownership (they first wanted to sell PacNet then changed their mind) did not help investors confidence. SembCorp has since given PacNet a BLANK CHECK for expansion though...

The only fundamentals that hasn`t change is that they still make money and that they have ZERO debt!

Space at Bangalore tech park all taken up

      JTC SUCCEEDS IN INDIA

SINGAPORE`S experience in running an industrial park in India has been very positive as exemplified by the success in attracting tenants to the International Tech Park in Bangalore.

Speaking at a PricewaterhouseCooper`s seminar on investing in India last week, Mr Dominic Ng, managing director of Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) International, said that the park`s success could be measured by the fact that it was now fully leased with an actual occupancy rate of between 92 per cent and 95 per cent.

""Our experience in India has been pleasant and successful, but it did not start out that way at first,`` he said without elaborating on the initial problems that were faced.

In fact, the take-up rate over the past three months or so had been ""explosive``, as the occupancy rate only stood at 75 per cent when Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong last visited the park in January.

The park`s 1.2 million sq ft of usable space is currently rented to over 80 companies with big names like Hewlett-Packard, General Electric and Sharp on its list of tenants.

Singapore companies like Pacific Internet and Informatics have also made the park home to their research and development activities.

Mr Ng said that the park was now embarking on the second phase of its expansion programme which would comprise built-to-suit as well as ready-built multi-tenanted facilities.

Apart from that, JTC International was also involved in the master-planning of a 40 km-long Information Technology Corridor that the state government of Karnataka had proposed to build.

Asked to compare his experiences with running the Tech Park in India as opposed to JTC`s ventures in China, Mr Ng diplomatically ranked a list of countries where JTC had operations in terms of ""the ease of doing business``.

India and the Philippines came out at the top of this list.

He explained that ""the thing about operating in India is that we are competing against private sector companies but in China we are actually competing against state owned enterprises`` adding that it was ""very difficult to win`` against such enterprises.

INTERVIEW-Pacnet <PCNTF.O> warns of profit squeeze
      (Reuters 06/14 12:17:02)

      By Uday Khandeparkar
BOMBAY, June 14 (Reuters) - Asian Internet service provider
Pacific Internet Ltd on Wednesday gave a profit warning saying
margins would be squeezed this year because of large
investments it is making in order to expand its market share.
"We are going to be spending more than we expected.
Basically it means that we expect that there will be a
significant squeeze on profitability," PacNet`s Chief Executive
Officer Nicholas Lee told Reuters in an interview.
For the first quarter of 2000, PacNet said it made a net
income of Singapore dollars 3.18 million against S$2.96
      million.
"We`ve been profitable for quite a long time... whereas
other companies are massively negative and no one even
      notices," Lee said.
PacNet, which operates as an ISP in Singapore, Australia,
Philippines, Hongkong, Thailand and India, is now entering the
      Chinese market.
Lee declined to say how much money PacNet was investing
this year but said most of it was going into China, India and
into expanding its electronic commerce division PACfusion.com.
"A sizeable piece of it will go into India, but a larger
      piece will go into PACfusion."
"We are operationally positive. If we wanted to we could
stay profitable for quite some time, but the nature of the game
is that you want your market share and you have to do
investments... We are going to go into a heavy investment mode
      this year," Lee said.
Lee said all the money for new investments was being
      internally generated.
"With the IPO we had a fair amount of our own money, we got
around $50 million ... and as you know we were profitable so we
still have a lot of money left."
PacNet`s shares have fallen sharply along with the rest of
the market in the past three months, going down to $20 in early
Wednesday trade from a year`s high of $79 on February 17.
Lee said he expected shares of the best managed ISPs to
rebound over the next few weeks.
"Everybody had been dumping Asian stocks ... and now they
are going to come and see which are the guys who got
profitability, management teams, and long term returns."
Lee said PacNet`s units in Philippines, Australia and India
would launch initial public offerings by next year with the
      Manila unit going first.
PacNet is 42 percent owned by the Singapore-government
linked multi-industry group SembCorp Industries Ltd <SCIL.SI>.

Etwas Geduld sollte man schon mitbringen. Das gilt auch für PCNTF. Billig einsammeln und liegen lassen.

      Hi

Singapore Web Sites Rank Among Global Giants for Local Users
      By Natalia Olynec

Singapore, June 15 (Bloomberg) -- Local Singapore Internet service providers, Pacfusion.com and Singnet.com.sg, ranked among the top five Internet sites visited on the island-state in April, after giants like Yahoo.com, said Nielsen/NetRatings.

Pacfusion.com, the electronic commerce Web site of Pacific Internet Ltd., was ranked the fourth-most popular Web site in Singapore in April. Singnet, a unit of the dominant telecommunications company Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., ranked fifth. The top three sites were global giants Yahoo.com, msn.com, and Passport.com.

``Local telecom companies and major Internet Service Providers are showing their ability to grab traffic on the Web,`` Nielsen/NetRatings said in a statement.

Singapore`s homegrown Internet sites are increasingly attracting the island`s 1.7 million users with local content on Asian entertainment, shopping, and news.

Pacfusion had an audience of about 185,000 in April, while Singnet had about 153,000, Nielsen/NetRatings said in a report.

PACIFIC INTERNET TO INVEST MORE THAN US$25 MILLION IN EXPANSION PLANS FOR E-BUSINESS AND ISP

      Singapore, (Thursday, June 15, 2000) -
      - New investments due to recent acquisition of travel business
      - India and China ISP expansion plans to proceed as planned

Pacific Internet, Asia`s leading ISP, today announced plans to invest US$25 to 35 million to grow its e-business venture, PACfusion, and to expand its ISP services in India and China. This investment follows the Group`s recent US$5 million acquisition of Safe and Mansfield Travel Group, a leading corporate travel agency with annual turnover of US$69 million, its recently-announced plans to expand into 25 cities in India, and its entry into China by the end of the year.

Mr. Nicholas Lee, Pacific Internet`s CEO, said: "Our acquisition of Safe and Mansfield Travel Group early this year has caused us to accelerate our e-business investment plans, superseding our original forecasts. Given the synergies inherent in our purchase of a solid bricks and mortar travel business, coupled with the importance of being an early mover in this game, we felt that this was an opportunity we could not pass up."

Mr. Lee explained, " With our acquisition of Safe and Mansfield, we`ve begun to create a constellation of unique B2B e-business vortals (vertical portals) that brings traditional brick-and-mortar businesses to the Internet, with PACfusion serving as the intra-Asian gateway. This acquisition is a strategic milestone for PACfusion."

He added, "We have the advantage of having a final-billing relationship with more than 300,000 subscribers in the Asian region, and the fact that the Pacific Internet brand is well-recognized for providing quality products and superior customer service. We expect a large proportion of our customers to opt for the convenience of e-commerce services provided by a company they know and trust".

The investments will be funded from Pacific Internet`s IPO proceeds and retained earnings from profitable operations, which currently stands at US$40 million. Mr Lee stated, "Our current cash position is healthy, and this will be used to fund our investments for the year 2000. In the longer term, we may consider other funding options available to us, including but not limited to raising capital through the private placement of equity in our subsidiaries, such as PACfusion."

Asian expansion will provide platform for e-business expansion

Mr. Lee re-affirmed Pacific Internet`s commitment to continue its ISP expansion into Asian markets, especially in India, which he sees as having the biggest market potential among all the countries that Pacific Internet is currently present in. He said, "We`re spending US$5 to10 million to expand to 25 cities in India this year, which has a total market potential of 5 million Internet subscribers by the year 2003. With India, we hope to repeat our success in countries like the Philippines, where, in just two short years, we`ve become the leading ISP, beating other well-established competitors in the market."

He added, "Our long term strategy has always been to become the one and only Asian ISP of choice, whilst providing our customers with true e-businesses and other value-added services. We`re already in India, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Australia, Thailand and Singapore, and we have plans to enter into China by the end of the year, where we expect to spend another US$5 to 10 million. Our investment strategy will ensure that we are poised to take advantage of the huge pan-Asian consumer and corporate platform created by our rapid ISP expansion."

PacNet`s expansion will cost up to $60m

      By IGNATIUS LOW

NASDAQ-LISTED Pacific Internet (PacNet) said yesterday that growth of its e-commerce portal Pacfusion.com and its expansion into India and China will involve a cost of between US$25 million and US$35 million (between S$43 million and S$60 million).

It had estimated this expenditure last month at only between US$10 million and US$20 million.

Still, PacNet said, this investment can be fully funded from the company`s initial public offer proceeds and retained earnings which currently stand at US$40 million.

""Our current cash position is healthy and this will be used to fund our investments for the year 2000,`` said PacNet`s chief executive, Mr Nicholas Lee, in a statement yesterday.

""In the longer term, we may consider other funding options available to us, including but not limited to raising capital through the private placement of equity in subsidiaries such as Pacfusion.com.``

PacNet`s announcement yesterday follows its US$5 million purchase of Safe and Mansfield Travel Group, a corporate travel agency, early last month.

""Our acquisition of Safe and Mansfield early this year has caused us to accelerate our e-business investment plans, superseding our original forecasts,`` said Mr Lee.

""Given the synergies inherent in our purchase of a solid bricks-and-mortar travel business, coupled with the importance of being an early mover in this game, we felt that this was an opportunity we could not pass up``.

PacNet is hoping to start operations in 25 Indian cities and hopes to crack the China market by year-end.

They are expanding rapidly to become one of the major players in the Asia Pacific Region. It goes without saying that this is expensive and squeezes IN THE SHORT TERM the profits. IN THE LONG RUN it will pay as only the big companies will survive.

PacNet needs a much broader subscriber base than only in Singapore. More subscribers yield more profits in the medium and long run. But more subscribers also mean more clout to roll out B2C and B2B Business. So their strategy, which currently squeezes the profits is right and will pay off in the long run as PacNet will emerge as a major Internet Company offering the whole range from ISP, B2C, B2B and other telecommunications services.

So you can´t say that they just burn cash. They spend money to buy cash cows would depict it better. It´s diferent whether you just burn cash to upgrade your website, like boo.com in the UK did or whether you spend money to broaden your consumer base.

Apart from that, PacNet still is one of the few Inets which already EARN money, even if it will be less the next month. So you can´t compare it with all the other companies which NEVER earned one single dime.

Finally, PacNet will be backed up by their mother Sembcorp: They won´t see their baby declining. Before that happens there will be some kind of financial support.

Summing up, PacNet currently is in a very aggressive and costly expansion tour. But they can afford it.

So stay cool, don´t expect gains too quickly. But in the long run (more than 6 months) this company has huge potential one of the blue chips in a booming Region.

      Hallo Reiners!

4 times strong buy for Pacnet
      by: heidefoerster

There maybe vacillations, especially now in summertime when the inets traditionally experience a weak period due to less surfing in the net...and more on the beach....but my considerations are for the long term investor. That is more than 6 months in the least.

So let us take a look at the main reasons for the Inet crash of the last weeks and see whether they apply for Pacnet:

      1. Cash-burn syndrome

Definetely one of the most serious concerns. Everybody knows the Barrons list and lots of small caps even were tremendeously hit by those worries.

BUT PACNET NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. PACNET IS ONE OF THE FEW INETS ALREADY BEING PROFITABLE!

      2. Too high investments at the expense of profits

You could also call it the „Amazon syndrome“: Investing so much that break even seems to be put off for good. And in times of reality check that´s no good.

EVEN THOUGH PACNET HAS INVESTED HUGELY THEY STILL ARE PROFITABLE AND ARE ABLE TO FUND THIS FROM INTERNAL GROWTH. APART FROM THAT WHEN IT IS GETTING REALLY SERIOUS, THEY ALWAYS CAN HOPE FOR A FINANCIAL INFUSION FROM THEIR MOTHER SEMBCORP.

      3. Vanishing growth prospects

Be it the subs, the clicks or the ads, people begin to realise that the US market is about to be saturated. It will be very difficult to generate more growth here. That is why stocks like the ISPs, but also ebay and doubleclick are on the downside trend.

BUT PACNET IS GOING TO BE A BLUECHIP IN A FLEDGLING INTERNET REGION LIKE ASIA PACIFIC WITH MORE GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES THAN THE US EVER HAD!!!

      4. Sharp price competition of the ISPs

This causes smaller and smaller margins and will end up in going bust of lots of providers.

BUT PACNET REALISED THAT PROBLEM VERY EARLY AND DEVELOPED THREE STRATEGIES AGAINST:

First, they started offering not only Service Providing but hugely and very successfully stepped in the B2C and B2B Business by their extremely well accepted Pacfusion project.

Second, Pacnet is about to attain a reputation for A QUALITY PROVIDER througout Asia which also makes them more independent from pure price competition. And the quality argument is a very big one especially in Asia!!! People are fed up with cheap Providers which don´t work. Especially businessmen who depend on flawless service more and more go to Pacnet.

And third Pacnet is the only Provider covering whole Asia, which again will be a big advantage especially regarding business clients.

Those 4 counts show us that Pacnet doesn´t share even only one of the flaws SOME US Inets may have the next years. People will realise that some day. It may take time but in the long run, Pacnet will be a skyrocketing as investors will look for alternatives for their ailing US favourites.

So there is only one slogan for the next weeks til oktober, which traditinally are bad times for inets as a whole: buy on the dips!

      Regards

      Asia`s e-boom not yet over
There are still some viable Asian Internet companies but investors should be selective and not blindly invest in all Asian Net IPOs, Salomon Smith Barney`s Pratik Gupta tells TOH HAN SHIH

THE Internet bubble has deflated, but Asia`s Internet industry is still worth investing in. Even after the recent stockmarket correction, Asia-Pacific`s (excluding Japan) pure Internet companies have a market capitalisation of US$46 billion (S$79 billion), and more Asian Internet companies are getting listed.

"In small, technology-intensive markets like Singapore and Hongkong, we see compelling opportunities for business Internet infrastructure and broadband ventures" -- Pratik Gupta, head of SSB`s Internet research for Asia-Pacific
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This advice comes from a report by Salomon Smith Barney (SSB).

"This sector is now too big to ignore," Pratik Gupta, head of SSB`s Internet research for Asia-Pacific, told BizIT.

"Over the past two months, the Asian Internet bubble has deflated. We`re glad this has happened sooner than later or the scars might have been deeper," he says.

"Don`t get us wrong. We`re still believers in the future economy, in which Internet startups, including those in Asia, will play a crucial role. The Internet will have an enormous impact on the global economy, perhaps equal in magnitude to the Industrial Revolution."

Mr Gupta says many Asian Net companies today are grossly overvalued as they suffer from flawed business models that lose money for a long time.

"However, there are some viable Asian Internet companies," he says. "So investors should not blindly invest in all Asian Net IPOs but be selective."

Some tips from the SSB report:

Allocate more money to a wide number of business-oriented e-ventures, particularly e-marketplaces, data centres, online business services, and ASPs (application service providers).
ASPs provide outsourced online services to other companies; e-marketplaces are electronic hubs that allow companies to do business with each other online. Mr Gupta says e-commerce opportunities will be significant in Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Hongkong, China and India.

Invest in companies that build Internet infastructure. "In small, technology-intensive markets like Singapore and Hongkong, we see compelling opportunities for business Internet infrastructure and broadband ventures," Mr Gupta says.
When investing in consumer-oriented Internet companies, choose the market leader.
China, India, South Korea and Taiwan should be top priority when investing in Asia`s Internet. By 2005, these four markets will have the most Internet users in Asia outside of Japan. "Singapore and Hongkong also present opportunities for investing in Net companies that can tap international markets," he says.
Traditional bricks-and-mortar companies that move their businesses to cyberspace have good investment potential.
Edmund Lin, Asia manager of Bain & Company, a US consultancy, shares similar views: "We believe some of the most attractive investment opportunities will come from Web-enabling brick-and-mortar companies in Asia-Pacific."

Brick-and-mortar companies have advantages that pure Internet companies lack, such as established brands, existing customer base, supplier relationships and a large pool of employees.

"Venture capitalists are now also interested in investing in Net infrastructure and companies that enable other companies to go online," says Mr Lin. "Investors now look for potential revenue growth, not just growth in eyeballs. After the crash, VCs are emphasising the bottom line of the Internet companies they invest in, such as cash-flow and managing costs."

However, Mr Gupta feels Asian Net startups should not be valued according to traditional yardsticks. "For instance, discounted cash-flow is a common method used to value companies, but this is useful only for established companies with stable cash-flow," he says. Instead, young Internet companies should be valued based on intangible factors, such as these:

Market opportunity. For example, an Internet portal in Indonesia will be less valuable than a leading portal in China, because China`s Internet population is larger than Indonesia`s.
The ability to increase a company`s assets quickly by using the company`s market cap to buy other companies. Examples include Pacific Century Cyberworks buying Hongkong Telecom.
Speed of growing the Internet business.
A strong management that can execute effectively. Mr Gupta notes: "Management is likely to be a problem in Asia, as the pool of IT management experience is not deep in Asia."
The SSB report also compiled an index of 39 Asian Internet stocks, one of the first of its kind in Asia. These include Singapore Internet companies such as SPH AsiaOne, Pacific Internet, Mediaring and Horizon.com. More will be added to this index as more Asian Internet companies list.

The SSB Asian Internet Index is useful because it acts as a benchmark against which to compare the performance of particular Asian Internet stocks, says Mr Gupta. The index also serves as an indicator of how well Asian Internet companies are doing in general, he adds.

Attached is a statement sent on behalf of Mr Nicholas Lee, CEO, Pacific Internet Ltd, to Messrs Steven Mckeever and Nicholas Pratt, Research Analysts at Lehman Brothers.
      -----------

      Dear Messrs Mckeever and Spratt,

We refer to your report dated 23 June 2000, titled "Pacific Internet: Downgrading to 4-Underperform after Aussie ISP Deal" in which you have expressed your views regarding our valuation on the basis of an ISP purchase executed in Australia. The report in question was also quoted in a Bloomberg article date 23 June.

In our view, the report is misleading to its readers as it does not present a complete picture of Pacific Internet`s current state of business. We fail to understand the rationale in using a local Australian ISP as the basis of comparison to our company, without due regard of issues of size, reach, management ability and profitability.

We present what we feel to be a true and fair representation of the state of Pacific Internet`s businesses, and to state our opinions of certain comments made in the report, in order to set the record straight.

      Firstly, our business fundamentals:

      - Our track record so far has been impeccable:

Our year on year annual revenue growth rate to date is as follows:

      1997 - +69% to S$48.9 million
      1998 - +47% to S$71.9 million
      1999 - +33% to S$95.4 million

To date, we have logged in 4 quarters of profitable operations since our listing in Feb 1999, out of a total 5 quarters, which is a rarity in a market currently awash with unprofitable companies and inflated share valuations.

Barring unforseen circumstances, we expect strong and continued revenue growth in the medium term, given our ongoing ISP expansion in five countries (ex-Singapore) that we currently operate in: India, Philippines, Thailand, Australia and Hong Kong. The latest quarter showed that our ex-Singapore subscriber base grew by a total of 156% year on year. Most notably, our Philippines operations grew its subscriber base by 196% to become a leading and profitable ISP in the Philippines, surpassing strong and established players in the market.

      - We have successfully defended our Singapore customer base despite competitive "freesurf" offers

Despite the hype surrounding freesurf offers from our Singapore competitors, we have maintained our Singapore dial-up subscriber base at the 200,000 level, while churn has remained at a very low percentage of our total base, reflecting our ability to constantly innovate to keep our customers happy and loyal to us. In fact, our Singapore subscriber base continues to grow despite the freesurf offers, highlighting the large gap in perceived quality and realiability of our services vis a vis our competitors.

      - We are widely recognised as the leading brand in Asia Pacific

Our brand equity is substantiated by a recent Telecoms Asia reader poll which awarded us the title of the Best ISP in Asia Pacific for the year 2000 (an award which we have won for the second year running). Telecoms Asia readers consist of communications industry professionals who have a deep appreciation of the quality issues in running an ISP. Furthermore, we have also been awarded the title of "Best ISP in Singapore" three years in a row.

What’s more, a recent survey by AC Nielsen has also placed our website as the most popular Singaporean internet destination for local users, putting us in the same league as Yahoo and MSN in the local context.

      - New business streams expected to come on line in 3Q2000

We have already made a significant step in the e-commerce arena by acquiring a leading bricks and mortar corporate travel business, Safe and Mansfield Travel Group (with annual sales of US$69 million), and are currently developing an e-commerce travel portal to tap the B2B business in the regional corporate travel market. Moreover, the consolidation of the travel business into PacNet would have a positive impact on our financials. Where other industry players are now starting to consider the merging of clicks and mortar companies, we have been executing those very same strategies.

      - Our telco business is coming on stream in 3Q2000

With the recent liberalisation of the telco market in Singapore, we have been able to secure a full telecommunications licence, which will allow us to offer International Direct Dial (IDD), interconnect revenues as well as allowing us to bypass the incumbent telcos in buying international bandwidth.

By the 3rd Quarter of 2000, we plan to offer IDD services in Singapore (a market worth approximately US$1 billion pa) and will have widened out broadband rollout to corporates. Currently, we are one of the leading providers of corporate broadband access in the Hong Kong market.

In addition, we are currently testing LMDS services in Singapore, which will allow a combination of wireless broadband internet, video on demand, voice over IP, high speed data transmission and conventional voice calls to be carried out on the same infrastructure. We plan to offer a complete communication package to corporates and consumers by the end of 2000.

In the medium term, we intend to deploy broadband internet and telco in selected markets, with the eventual goal of providing a complete and total communications service package to consumers and corporates alike.

      Opinions expressed in Lehman report:

Below is a selection of the paraphrased assertions from the report which we believe to be misleading or incomplete. Our response follows:

Your statement: ".....concerns about the company`s future profitability as competitive pressures continued to be felt in core Singapore ISP business...."

Our response: While margins have been affected by the freesurf offers, our ability to continue to maintain the loyalty of our consumer dial-up base, and our hefty growth in the high margin corporate market, have contributed significantly to our Singapore revenues. For example, our base of Singapore corporate lease lines have grown by 58% year on year for the 1st Quarter, to a current subscriber base of 562 corporates, approximately one-third of the Singapore corporate market, and we expect continued growth, given our team`s proven ability to penetrate this lucrative market.

Note: our leased line count does not include network lines connected via ISDN.

Your statement: ".....Comments from management.....bear out our concerns...that Pacific Internet would experience a significant squeeze on profitability...."

Our response: The statement in question ignores the fact that our "profitability squeeze" would actually be a result of significant and strategic investments in our on-going India ISP expansion, our acquisition of Safe and Mansfield Travel Group, and our Telco investments, all of which will contribute to future revenue streams.

Your statement: ".....If PI were to trade at the same valuation per sub as the EISA transaction suggests, then the stock would trade around US$3.80........"

Our response: PacNet is currently a regional ISP present in six Asian countries, with a proven track record of profitable operations, the ability to reach the top tier in countries in which it operates, and with the financial ability and clout to effect strategic acquisitions. Moreover, PacNet is now moving into new and significant revenue streams, such as our e-travel venture, and our impending launch of telco services by the end of the year. It is our view that the comparison with EISA, a local Australian ISP, is grossly unfair and misleading to the reader, and has chosen to ignore PacNet`s many business successes.

Finally, to underline our disagreement with the report`s suggested valuation method, if it were to be indiscriminately applied to other reputable regional ISPs such as Satyam Infoway (which has a reported 200,000 dial-up subscriber base), their valuation would actually fall to US 39 cents per share.

We thank you for your attention, and we hope that the above would provide what we feel to be a fair and true representation of Pacific Internet to our shareholders, and to the public in general.

      Nicholas Lee
      CEO, Pacific Internet Ltd
      29 June 2000

      Platow Emerging Markets

      Also eine kurze Zusammenfassung:

Pac Net has recently nominated Gavin Anderson, a global PR/IR firm based in the US, which will help us establish contacts with key investors and analysts in the US marketplace. This will help us lower the knowledge barrier significantly in the US regarding our company`s fundamentals.

We have also recently gone on analyst blitz in recent weeks in order to develop contacts with key sell-side analysts such as SG Cowen, UBS Warburg, IndoSuez, etc which will provide the bulk of the research for their US clients, and we are confident that they are now fully appraised of the companys fundamentals. Be assured that there are definitely many more than 2 analysts listed on Yahoo that are taking an active interest in our stock.

we will not see immediate results from our key programs. but rather . a gradual increase in awareness, trust and confidence over aperiod of time. I ask for your patience and understanding in light of our efforts to continuously improve our investor and public relations program.

      Mr...

Thank you for your time to share your concerns, and your confidence in our
      company`s future.

In our efforts to generate greater buying interest in the US, our company
has recently upgraded its public and investor relations plans as follows:

      - PacNet has recently nominated Gavin Anderson, a global PR/IR firm based
in the US, which will help us establish contacts with key investors and
analysts in the US marketplace. This will help lower the knowledge and
contact barrier significantly in the US regarding our company`s
fundamentals. Together with Gavin Anderson, we are in the process of
drawing up an prospective investor contact list in the US, which we will
target in our next roadshow in August and September of 2000.

      - We have also recently gone on an analyst meeting blitz in recent weeks in
order to develop and establish contacts with key sell-side analysts such as
SG Cowen, UBS Warburg, IndoSuez, etc which provide the bulk of the research
for their US clients, and we are confident that they are now fully
      appraised of the company`s fundamentals.

      - improvements to our investor relations website in the coming weeks, which
will allow, among others, an investor comms channel to our CEO so that your
views and concerns can be shared, provide up to date investor information
on our company (such as research reports, which we have access to).

      Hard times for pacnet longs...

Sentiment currently can´t be denied to be bad, especially after the incomprehensible Lehmann downgrade. Shortsellers and window dressing shifts may have also contributed to that dive yesterday.

But the long term prospects haven´t changed at all. I don´t expect a quick rise. But time will come when the PacNet managament will reap the fruits of their cohesive strategy. PacNet is not yahoo, aol or any other bluechip. But they have a considerable chance to become one of the Inets giants in Asia..and I want to be in there BEFORE that happens. Nobody knows WHETHER it happens, even though I trust in Mr. Lee and his team.

What we are seeing now is a tough reality check. The irrational exuberations are over in the whole sector. Why should it be different with PacNet? There is no doubt that their profit will be squeezed for some time now. But when their strategy should pay off – and IMHO they are on track for it –the investment community will jump on that stock...and not only some Harmon flocks. I guess patience will pay...

Just to reassure let us take a look at the main reasons for the Inet crash of the last weeks and see whether they apply for Pacnet:

      Regards

      Hi,

      PACIFIC INTERNET LURES REGIONAL
SURFERS MELBOURNE (WEDNESDAY, 20 JUNE 2000) - Gaining momentum from the current fray of Internet service provider (ISP) activity, Pacific Internet has established 7 more points of presence (POPs) across Australia.

In the last month Pacific Internet has extended its coverage and launched POPs in Penrith, Gosford, Wollongong, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Mornington Peninsula, Geelong, and Canberra. These are in addition to POPs in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.

A recent Australian Bureau of Statistics report estimated that only 15% of regional homes have access to the Internet, compared to 26% of metropolitan households. The new Pacific Internet regional and interstate POPs allow residents to dial in at the cost of a local call, avoiding the burden of STD rates. It is hoped that local call access will entice regional households on to the Internet.

"Regional Australians are not offered the same level of choice as their metropolitan counterparts. As a group they stand to benefit greatly from Internet access," said Jochen Bonitz, General Manager Pacific Internet.

Pacific Internet is forging a solid subscriber base in previously neglected locations and demographics. It is the only ISP to offer Seniors across Australia a 10% Seniors Card discount, and has found that over 11% of its subscriber base is aged over 60 years. Its oldest subscriber is 89 years old.

According to research published by Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd, Australia now has almost 800 ISPs, with over 400 offering access within metropolitan Sydney or Melbourne only. Pacific Internet is fulfilling its aim to become a truly national ISP, and this puts Pacific Internet in direct competition with other tier 2 ISPs such as TPG, AOL, Netspace, and the aggrieved eisa.

ABOUT PACIFIC INTERNET: PROVIDING INTERNET SERVICE FOR ALL AUSTRALIANS

Pacific Internet (Australia) provides Internet access to the consumer and corporate market with a strong focus toward quality service and affordable plans. With its fast and easy access to the Internet, Australian surfers finally have the opportunity to connect to an approachable ISP that delivers friendly sign-up options, round-the-clock support and high-speed connectivity.

Pacific Internet (Australia) Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Internet Limited, which is Listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol PCNTF. The Pacific Internet Group offers award-winning services across the Asia-Pacific region in Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, India, Thailand and Australia.

Hier nun der brandheiße Newsletter vom 03.07. (www.em-research.de)

      Pacific Internet
      ISP mit e-Commerce Ambitionen

      1.Unternehmensgeschichte

Wichtige Daten (Stand 3. Juli 2000):
      Kurs am 03.07.00: 15,875 US$ (17 Euro) | Marktkapitalisierung: ca. 201 Mio US$ (~212 Mio Euro) | Ticker Nasdaq: PCNTF | WKN: 918895

(As of 7/2/00) ANALYSTS’ CONSENSUS: Buy
At the present time, Pacific Internet stock is considered to be a "Buy" by Wall Street. Covered by 1 Wall
Street professional, the weighted consensus ranking or AQO is 1.20. This value lies above the 1.00 AQO
threshold considered necessary for a "Buy" recommendation. Considering the S&P 500 is currently reporting an
AQO of 0.83, the shares are deemed more attractive than the general market as defined by the S&P 500.
Pacific Internet`s earnings are expected to show little movement in 2000 . The current forecast anticipates
earnings per share of $0.12. Presently, an increase in earnings of 408.3% is forecast for 2001, indicating earnings
of $0.61 are deemed probable. Economists expect the S&P 500 will show a rise in earnings in 2000 of about
10.44% and will increase 5.39% in 2001. Looking at these forecasts and considering the growth foreseen for the
S&P 500, earnings at Pacific Internet are expected to lag the rate of growth anticipated for the broad market in
2000. However, the company is expected to grow at a rate that is greater than that of the market in 2001.
Currently, there is no estimate for the first quarter, perhaps indicating some uncertainty on the part of
analysts about prospects in this period.
Because of the limited coverage by Wall Street of this stock there is no consensus estimate nor any
deviation in estimates. Investors must be aware that because of the limited coverage, there is an inherently greater
investment risk than exists in stocks with broader sponsorship.

Internetwerte ueberhaupt
ansehe, kommen mir da schon so gewisse Zweifel.

Und nein: ich bin nicht short. Sollte ich sagen: leider nicht?

      Hallo Berufszocker,

      @bruno

      nix is fix.
