Vielleicht kommt die derzeitige Konsolidierung am Markt indirekt Elan zugute da durch Gewinnmitnahmen nun wieder Cash frei ist.

Viele werden ausgestopt oder ausgestiegen sein und wenden sich somit den wenigen ausnahmewerten zu die trotz fallender Märkte unterbewertet sind. Ist nur ne überlegung.

das Problem bei BIOGEN ist, dass die mit Tysabri ihre eingenen Produkte kanibalisieren, somit die Gewinnmarge nicht so start zunimmt wie bei ELAN.

Beide Unternehmen werden in diesem Jahr gute Zuwächse verzeichnen, aber prozentual sehe ich bei ELAN wesentlich höhere Steigerungen.

Schau Dir mal den Aktienverlauf bei BIOGEN in den letzten Tagen an, es hat eher den Anschein, dass einige aus BIOGEN raus gehen. Vielleicht um in ELAN zu investieren.

(nur meine Meinung, muss jeder selbst für sich verantworten können)

ich kann deine Einschätzung leider nicht teilen. Lediglich die Beteiligung an Rituxan stimmt mich positiv bei Biogen. Aber ansonsten würde ich behaupten, dass du dich aufs falsche Pferd gesetzt hast. Und zwar weil:

- Tysabri ist ein 50/50-Kooperation zwischen Elan und Biogen
- mit dem zu erwartenden Ergolg von Tysabri werden sehr wahrscheinlich die Umsätze von Avonex massiv zurückgehen; da Avonex neben Rituxan der einzige Blockbuster im Portfolio von Biogen ist, werden diese wegbrechenden Umsätze bei Avonex den Erfolg von Tysabri schmälern. Dieser Effekt tritt bei Elan nicht auf, da dort keine anderen Umsätze kannibalisiert werden
- Biogen`s Forschungspipeline hat nach meiner subjektiven Einschätzung bei weitem nicht das Potenzial von Elan
- die Marktkapitalisierung von Biogen (16 Mrd$) ist mehr als das Doppelte als diejenige von Elan (7 Mrd$)

Although Tysabri is 3-4 years ahead of FTY720, assuming FTY720 would present equivalent efficacy and safety to Tysabri, but being an oral MS drug it will has significant advantage over Tysabri, which will have potential threat to Tysabri.

What`s important for Tysabri`s long-term success, in the context of FTY720`s potentiality , I beilieve two issues must be resolved:

1. to become a gold-standard (clinically first choice) MS drug by demonstrating its superior efficacy to IFNs. This can be done in a head-to-head study of Tysabri comparing to Avonex or Rebif. (from the current data & EDSS scores I believe this goal is achievable). The cost of this such will be in a region of $1m-$1.5m. A favourable study outcome will send Tysabri`s revenue 5 x higher than current estimate.

2. To develop oral version of Tysabri. It seems to be available in 4-5 years times according to KM`s statement in his last CC. With this oral version, Elan/biib will only need to demonstrate bioequivalence of their injectable Tysabri and their oral Tysabri, which they need to test them in 120-150 subjects for a duration of 2-3 doses, ie, 2-3 months. The cost of such development should be within $1.5m.

If I remember well Tysabri`s patent will last until 2014.

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Lehman Brothers cut Irish biotech company Elan Corp. PLC (ELN) to underweight from equal weight, citing overextended valuation.

The broker told clients that based on the current share price, the market is already more the fully discounting a return to market of multiple sclerosis treatment Tysabri and robust product revenues going forward. Lehman said that assuming a return to market, it believes neurologists may be reluctant to broadly prescribe the drug due to the responsibility of the required strict patient monitoring.

i am not saying anything about the particular analysts - i am giving my opinion that the lehman report seems to be based on erroneous assumptions - once a drug is approved (even if it has a black box warning) it does not materially change the sales of a drug if it is the most efficacious treatment available - lehman also does not seem to understand that the risk of PML in immune competent patients on monotherapy cannot be proven to be more than 0 - they seem to think that use of immune suppressant treatments leads to a permanent immune impairment which is not true and if immune suppression in tysabri patients is important then why doesn`t it show up in the clinical trial data - the infection risk of tysabri is substantially lower than remicade and enbrel ( both are blockbusters) - also the lehman report does not take into account that MS patients will migrate to the most efficacious drug that also leads to the highest quality of life - lehman also does not seem to take into account exactly what aab-001 clinical progress represents - i don`t think the latest ELN run was based on tysabri - i think it was based on recognition of the AD program value - the AD market could be in the hundreds of billions of dollars - if ELN/WYE are showing meaningful success in AD treatment the potential valuation of ELN becomes extremely difficult because of the massive size of the AD market - also the lehman report seems to be missing meaningful new data since last year on TY - it appears to be largely based on TY thinking of last april and hence does not appear to be valid representation of ty or the AD program

Now is th etime for all the weak hands to sell ELN....I can not indicate how excited I am to read about these people "selling" their shares today. I am glad to see them go. These investors are of no value to ELN or any of us long term holders. They are useless leaches just trying to hitch a quick ride on a stock that is going up. And they don`t care in the least why the shares are up. So, glad to see them go.

Not to worry. There are plenty of legitimate long term buyers trying to get into ELN and these fruitcake sellers will be taken out of their positions with no difficulty in the least.

Oh..the Lehman downgrade....baloney. Today`s action in the stock says it all. Lehman has no muscle in ELN, they are saying nothing of any consequence that has not been cvoered by this board at length or that the key shareholders are not aware of.

ELN is going higher.

I never listen to analysts, do my own DD. unfortunately most investors won`t take the risk or time to do this. thats why they get cleaned out by these morons. The numbers crunchers at Lehman conclude Elan is worth $5 per share. It may be useful for folks who are unfamiliar with such crunching to kinda understand how they probably came up with this number.

From their report (share by Winonefortheteam in post #887348 etal), it’s evident that they’re using NPV (Net Present Value) calculation to come up with Elan’s worth. Lehman concluded that Tysabri has a 75% probability of reaching the market in 2007, and will have PEAK sales of $490M in MS and $263M in Crohn’s (I have to assume by those numbers they mean Elan’s 50% share of the sales). Using a 25% discount factor, they conclude that Tysabri, in today’s dollars, is worth $1.76 per share, and the remainder of the company is worth $5 per share. For debt, they subtract $2.08 per share. Thus, they come to a target price of $5 (actually $4.68, but they generously round up).

Other than the total revenue/income number, there are two important factors to note here. One, in assuming 75% probability, they reduce their forward revenue numbers across the board by 25% (i.e. in their peak year of $490M revenues, they would only use $367.5M [$490 x 75%]). Second, Lehman uses a very high discount rate for their NPV calculation. The higher the discount rate, the riskier the perceived revenue stream, and the lower the value of those future streams in today’s dollars. Lehman uses 25%, while most analysts in the biotech industry generally use anywhere from 10% to 20% (Amgen’s “solid” product revenue streams, for instance, would be granted a 10% discount rate). In my experience, a 20% discount rate is considered appropriate even in risky biotech projects.

So, just for perspective, I generated an NPV table on excel and played with some numbers. For ease and demonstration purpose rather than to replicate reality, I used the following assumptions.

- Tysabri has $0 sales in 2006, then IMMEDIATELY in 2007 starts generating $XXX dollars in sales per year until 2012. At 2013, sales go to $0. In other words, no “ramp up” and no “ramp down.”
- Cost of goods is immaterial.
- Assume 500M shares outstanding.

So here’s the point: using my highly simple model:

- If I assume Elan receives revenues of $700M per year, a 75% probability for these revenues, and use a 25% discount factor, I get Tysabri = $2.48 per share. However, if I change the discount factor to 10%, it becomes $4.16 per share (68% higher). Clearly, the discount rate, although arbitrary in its use, is quite significant.
- So what if I’m really bullish? Let’s suppose I think Ty will definitely return and will generate $3B annually. So, assuming Elan receives revenues of $1.5B per year, a 100% probability for these revenues, and use a 10% discount factor, Tysabri = $11.88 per share.

Even though this model is highly simplified/imperfect, I would suggest that it demonstrates the following conclusions:

(1) All things considered, Lehman’s assumptions are very conservatively pessimistic. The 25% discount factor, especially after they’ve already factored in only a 75% probability of Ty’s return, is especially so.
(2) If you are convinced that Tysabri will return and sales will reach anywhere near pre-PML projections (or even surpass), AND you believe there’s something to Elan’s ALZ and nano programs, the current PPS is materially undervalued.
(3) Although a simplistic model, given that the above suggests a Tysabri NPV of approx. $12/share even assuming $3B in sales and 100% probability of return, I would suggest that those believing that Elan would reach $40-50 per share or above ON STRENGTH OF TYSABRI ALONE are being too optimistic.

Let me spell this out to you & the YMB.

This was no `computer glitch`.
Such things hardley ever happen in systems like the NASDAQ`s setup.
They are an ELECTRONIC exchange for crying out loud; they have been around for years!
They have x-times backup computers (farms of them to be more exact) all on hot standby, etc.

So it was at best, if at all a `glitch`, a `clerical error`.
That means that a person or persons unknown entered a few trades `incorrectly` after the close...

Then we have the AH trading, suddenly a lot of sells after the close.

Why? Did they know about the LEH dowgrade of the NEXT DAY?
Or where they all fooled? I doubt it.

Then we get the LEH downgrade.
These suckers did not even downgrade as there is no published opinion to be found anywhere (maybe one from before 1998? Oh, please).
And they use a ridicoulous NPV calculation etc.

Then we get massive, massive sells, driving the price down way beyond stops, computer trading program triggers and down so as to invalidate the jan 15 calls (thank god I sold those a while ago).

To summarize, this was NO GLITCH.

This smells like fraud & illegal market manipulation to me.

Come on guys, you gotta admire the handiwork here. Start creating FUD with the Morningstar nonsense, make a computer "mistake" and follow it within a few hours with some serious FUD from a widely followed brokerage (which totally falls apart upon examination), then hit the market on the open with some big sell orders and a short attack and voilla! the retailers stampede.

Take a look at that chart around today`s low. That was a bunch of wise guys snapping up shares at a $2 discount.

I didn`t sell because this has nothing to do with the fundamentals and everything to do with manipulation. Unfortunately I was in a meeting when the low hit because I wanted to add some on the pull back.

The $64 question when you look at the volume is did they shoot their wad today or will they be back tomorrow. I`ve got some serious cash waiting if they are. Big boys know how to create a sell off and buy at a discount--small guys who follow the game get to play too.

Volatile stock because T is not back and too much of it is still in hot hands. But when you look at the company behind it today, it is a far better company than it was a year ago. That`s what following the fundamentals are all about.

Stay the course and buy on manipulated pull backs. Laugh all the way to the bank in 2008.

Lehman Brothers analyst Richard Silver downgraded Elan (nyse: ELN - news - people ) stock to “underweight” from “equal-weight” citing “overextended” valuation following a meeting with management of Elan’s partner Biogen Idec (nasdaq: BIIB - news - people ) concerning the companies’ multiple sclerosis drug Tysabri.

“In our opinion, at nearly $17 per share, Elan’s valuation more than fully reflects a successful upcoming FDA panel meeting, market re-entry, and future peak sales well in excess of even the most optimistic scenarios,” for Tysabri, the analyst said in a report Thursday.

In Feb. 2005, Biogen and Elan pulled the multiple sclerosis drug from the market.

Silver said that if Tysabri does return to the market, neurologists may be reluctant to broadly prescribe it due to the responsibility of the required strict patient monitoring.

The analyst added patients taking Tysabri face the risk of missing early signs of the rare but life-threatening side effect of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, a brain disorder linked to the drug.

You know, it`s very interesting to me that Lehman downgraded ELN (AFTER) meeting with our trusty partner Biogen. Adjusting to any hidden messages here, and the pressure that BIIB is feeling with the ultimate return of Tysabri, while sweating the fact that Avonex may be next to useless in the long term as MS patients switch to the better thing (sounds like a coke commercial), maybe our "truty" partner Biogen isn`t so much on our good side afterall. I read a previous post by someone I forget regarding the same sentiment, and I may just have to agree with your thinking there. They want their stock to perform over and above Elan`s, they met with Lehman who jsut so handily announces a downgrade in ELAN the same day they announce a share buyback of their own stock (in an attempt to add to their credibility) with their own stock performing so well, that maybe the two wink wink set up to crap all over ELAN to shake them up and keep Biogen investors from running from BIIB to ELN since we ARE the better company with FAR more winners in the pipeline. Just a thought of course, but something is just fishy in Newfoundland and I`m glad a few posters on here decided to take the time to send the SEC an inquiry. Maybe, just maybe, it`s justified.

In any event, I was able to add today to my position which I was very happy with. I`m looking forward to a VERY positive report from ELN on Jan 31st and I hope that KM can crap all over both these guys with a big Alzheimers efficiacy announcement when they tag team with Wyeth at the end of the month. I know he won`t disappoint. We deserve justice as shareholders for what we`ve been through, MS sufferers deserve justice and effective pain medication for what THEY`VE been through and KM deserves a pat on the back for what he`s been through.

Here`s to a wonderful 2006! Screw today.

First of all, why did Richard Silver talk to Biogen Idec and NOT Elan ????

Biogen Idec does not represent ELAN.

Elan has other products that have more value than Tysabri. For example, Elan is in partnership with Wyeth developing AAB-001, an Alzheimer Vaccine that they think FDA will approve in 2009.

Elan also has Nanocrystal delivery technology which BIOGEN has nothing to do with whatsoever. The potential of using Nanocrystals is much bigger than Tysabri as ELAN partners with Johnson&Johnsons and Roche.

This analyst from Lehman only evaluated Elan solely on Tysabri alone and did not even take time to talk to ELAN! Instead, he talked to Biogen Idec. This analyst is not only incompetent but totally unprofessional for mis-representing ELN.

By consistently suggesting that is Ty the cause for PML while it is not.

yesterday. I suggest everyone take another quick look at a two month chart. On november 20, would we all have been happy to be in the high 14s on Jan. 20? Of course. This is a volatile situation, there is a lot at stake, and we can`t assume that the dark side will give up without pulling out all the stops. Longs have nothing to worry about, but for traders, momos, and short term option players yesterday was a disaster. I only trade short term options as a sideline, so I don`t care about $2 decline. We`re on the right side, and the fundamentals will ultimately tell the story.

IMHO what you`re seeing here is analysts who proclaimed ELN dead when Tysabri was pulled and are now faced with a run up of 400% not wanting to look stupid. Many still miss the fact that Tysabri is currently the only hope for people with an absolutely horrible disease.
I can`t complain too much as I`d love a dip to buy some additional stock. Nothing runs up forever, but I still see ELN as a great long term holding.

It seems that the stock price may get ahead of itself. Today`s sell-off is good for ELN for a long term. Believe or not, Ty is a mechanism-driven drug, far better than any drug on the market. MS patients should clean their body first - Donot take any medicine such as glucocorticoid, other cell-toxic inhibitors, and INFbeta. Just adminstrate Ty bimonthly and an adequate amount of vitamin D3. In my career of 16 year`s experience in leukocyte trafficking, Tysabri is just a far better choice for patients. Of course, time will tell and do not trade on my opinion.

won`t need an AC.
We saw yesterday what brokerages will do to cover their
short position. Hell they saved ten`s of millions with
their shenanagans, they played with the afterhour price
and then premarket, took out the stops and had their
stooges write something meaningless, but negative, and
bam! $2 down. Myself and many veteran investors took
advantage and bought these "gift" shares, and guess what
options don`t expire until close, so we will see these same
jerks albeit professional jerks still manipulating today.
So be prepared to pick up more gifts today if they present
themselves, because these shares are now in stronger hands
and will stay that way untill we hit the 20`s and beyond.

What did we think....the stock should go up in a straight line the minute we buy it. I wasn`t going to sell at 16 or 17 and if you really believe, either were you. In 1 month or 2 months or 6 months what difference will yesterday and today make NONE!!!!

There has been a large short position in ELN which was hurting bad with the recent rise and the pending approval of Tysabri. It was perfectly timed on option expiration date to attack the stock. First we get a Lehman "downgrade" from an analyst that had a 31 target before Tysabri was pulled and now that it is looking like a re-approval puts a $5 target. (Slightly disingenuous in my opinion). Then we get a Jeffrey CC with two doctors that are paid by a competitor. This spreads more fear. Add the pressure of option expiration where there were many 15 call options held by longs and the triggering of stop loss orders and guess what? The stock collapses and the hedge fund have an opportunity to cover before the approval date.

Others have pointed out that institutions will let it fall and buy lower but think they will take their time about helping it out in a bottom today.

How many of you will be scared if it drops again today?

The leveraged retail guys are being sweated out - for the fifth time since I first bought Elan in 2002.

Historically, Elan has dumped, paused or bounced but then dumped further. The theory is that the margin calls kick in on the second and third day and the new buyers put tight stop losses at their purchase price, which get triggered when the stock goes down again.

Either way - they bought higher than they sold - so who do you think benefits from that?

Nowhere else but in behavioral finance are human beings so predictable.

Retail investors can always be relied on to do the wrong thing. They get stopped out, or they panic or they try to sell high and rebuy lower. Few indeed are willing to just ride the rollercoaster.

And some have said say, institutions stand aside and let it fall. They aren`t on margin, and they dont report for two weeks yet. This sets up a nice trading profit for them if they cooperate wit hte game. They`re like alligators sitting under the rope bridge, waiting for hedge funds to shake loose lunch.

I bought yesterday, bought back my April covered calls, and generally went 110% again. Now I am now kicking myself. I`ll get it for a dollar less today.

But that`s my track record with this stock, always catch the falling knife too early. Did it during the AN1792 drop, the SEC drop, the King drop, the black monday drop.

A system that will beat Teadowner`s technicals is this... wait for hiddenedge to buy, wait two days, buy, wait 5 months, see 200% return :-)

Here is my painfully earned wisdom about ELN.


I`m not rich yet, and that says something. I`m not in the game and I don`t know the game. And if somebody invites me to play, it isn`t because they want me to take the pot.

Elan options are 10th most active on CBOE.

The trading activity in relation to the float, 8 million shares a day - that`s half a billion dollars a week.


My point? ELN is the big boy`s bitch. It is a great investment long term but it is STILL a traders stock for the next 6-12 months. It bounces around and ANY time sensitive or price sensitive exposure will cause you to be bounced out.

Slaughtering fat retail pigs is at the core of most trading strategies. And that calls for pigs. No offence intended - but there was a whole lot of squealing on this board yesterday - and will be some more today. Watch for another jerk down. The pigs are still optimistic about a good close. What ill relly get them to sell?

And yes - the shakeouts have a purpose. They take shares from overleveraged retail players who cannot afford to hold them.

And by a long convoluted process - where trading desks, hedgefunds, analysts, bankers, institutions, and yes - pharma companies line up at the trough, everybody wins. Except the amatures.

Buy, hold, breath. :-)

Here`s the explanation -

TODAY
In the morning, NSV was more than 2+ million. At around 2 pm, the 1.8 NSV began declining and buy pressure was restored. Hence NSV was only 1 million. The 2 million shares dumped in the morning caused the price drop.

YESTERDAY
Same thing, NSV was more than 1 million in the morning due to massive selling and putting a pressure on price. But there was a lot of buying yesterday afternoon that NBV turned positive at around 2:00pm and then actually went up to 1 million.

So, you can see that timing is very important with the game being played by specialists, hedgies, MMs ....

Dump millions of shares in the morning at a high price and BUY back in the afternoon.

Yesterday morning (Sell $15-$16), Afternoon (Buy back shares cheaper at $14+)

Today morning (Sell $14-$14.50), Afternoon (Buy back shares cheaper at $13-$13.80s).

So you sell, they sold at a higher price and bought an equal or more number of shares at a cheaper price.

Hi Birgit,

so spät noch vor der Glotze? - Wohl auch ein wenig mitgenommen, was?

Ich glaube nicht an blosse Manipulation - bei diesen Volumina. Trotz Deiner harschen Ausdrucksweise bleibe ich beim "überkauft".

Wer weiter euphorisch bleiben will, soll es bleiben. Ich ärgere mich hauptsächlich über mich selbst, weil ich meinen Verstand ausgeschaltet hatte. Nach solchen Anstiegen ohne Nachrichten hätte ich bei anderen Aktien verkauft. Nur bei Elan war ich mir zu sicher. Das war falsch und hat mich viel Geld gekostet.

Trotzdem allen ein schönes Wochenende.

...wurde nun ja auch Zeit, dass der Zeitpunkt des AC festgesetzt wurde: 7. März 2006
So viel ich weiss, sind derartige Sitzungen zumindest teilweise öffentlich. Auf den Kursverlauf im Monat März darf man/frau wirklich gespannt sein.
Ich konnte es natürlich nicht lassen, und habe gestern nochmal nachgelegt....bin nun unvernünftigerweise mit meinem Investitionsgrad wieder bei 110%...und zwar all-in-one...bzw. all-in-elan
Belehrungen diesbezüglich sind übrigens zwecklos, ich werde in meinem wissenden Bekanntenkreis bereits als unzurechnungsfähig erklärt

nochmals, es geht nicht um recht haben oder nicht....jeder handelt nach seinen Maximen und das ist auch gut so .....jeder investiert auf seine Art sein Geld...

....wir( Birgit und ich) sind von der " Story" - ELAN - überzeugt, dass ist der Unterschied zu vielen anderen Teilnehmern aus diesem Board hier...
....es gibt hier in diesem Forum viele " Zocker"....ich bin keiner und werde es auch nicht in Zukunft sein, da ich versuche, mein Geld in Werte zu setzen, die für mich " zukünftiges Potential" in sich bergen......

Mein EInstiegszeitpunkt bei 13,50 war etwas unglücklich, aber ich denke immer an meine Ziele und frage mich warum ich investiert bin und ausser das ein paar große institutionen noch günstig reinwollen hat sich nix geaendert, bei primacom hab ich mal innerhalb weniger Tage 75% verloren und war eine Woche spaeter 20% im Plus, und nur weil ich relativ cool geblieben bin..

Ich denke, was wir die letzten beiden Tage gesehen haben ist eine gesunde Konsolidierung. Wenn man sich das Elan Chart der letzten Wochen anschaut, so liefen wir ständig an der oberen Grenze der Bollinger Bänder.
Das Chart erinnert mich stark an Viropharma Mitte 08.2005.
Ich betrachte Elan als absolutes Langzeitinvestment, wobei solche Sprünge schon irgendwie zum Traden reizen.
Bin im Schnitt zu 8,4€ rein und bleibe auch drin, weil ich fest davon überzeugt bin, daß wir am Ende des Jahres mindestens 25€ sehen. Vielleicht werde ich versuchen solche Sprünge mit 20 % meines Elaninvestments zu traden. Aber im Traden war ich noch nie gut .

Den idealen Einstieg/Austieg trifft sicher selten jemand.
Ausser bei "HydroFlops" bin ich bisher auch nicht wirklich
auf die Nase gefallen. Aber es tut einfach weh (und ist
momentan auch ein bischen zum kotzen) wenn bei einem Wert,
der eine schöne Entwicklung hat so ein dunkelroter Knick
entsteht.

Ich hatte eine "Notbremse" bei 10.50 für wirklich schlechte
News, die ich aber noch rechtzeitig gelöscht habe.

Wenn ich mir GOOG, AAPL, MOT und Konsorten anschaue ist
imo die Kurve recht ähnlich. Das ist alles zu gut gelaufen.
und NASI mit -2.4% ist auch nicht gerade erbaulich.

Ich bin nicht wirklich überezeugt, dass Montag ein Grüner
Tag wird, aber ich hoffe es. Spätestens Diesntag sollte
allgemein eine Erholung einsetzen.

War zwei Tage in Amsterdam und bin schon ziemlich irritiert über den augenblicklichen Stand der Aktien.
Bin weiterhin und unverändert long. An den Perspektiven hat sich ja auch nichts verändert.
Anlegerkollegen sollten sich nicht wundern, wenns nach 13,50$ Schlußkurs sowie unter 12,50$ Schlußkurs weitere flattrige Hände gibt. Das sind nämlich die aktuellen Marken für Daytrader und Longs im P&F-Chart. Könnte eine Bullenfalle werden!

Ich bleibe weiterhin long. Der eine oder ander Interessierte kann ja ein Abstauberlimit bei diesen Marken setzen.

Ich bin davon überzeugt, daß wir schneller wieder bei 13€ sind, als die Bratwürste im Kühlschrank von Birgit!

There will probably not be a quick rise in ELN pps next week. The fear of waking up in the morning and finding out you have missed a 30% jump in pps is now gone for the time being. I had noticed sometime in the fall of 05 that fear of good news seemed to be driving the price and now there is a month and a half where fear is mostly gone....There is the joint WYE/ELN announcement day 1/31, but other than that nothing on the horizon till after the IDES of March.
One of the most obvious things about the market is that the big money likes to pay little money and big money hates to see pps go up without riding along with all of their horses. Big money uses dead time (no news times) to knock things down to levels that they like or at least like better than is posted, when they have bet wrong they also like to minimize the hit. I fully expect this thing to have a very bumpy ride for the next 1&1/2 months and big money is going to try to get in as cheap as possible. They will mess with us to do it and AC in March is the opportunity to do it, nearly clear sailing for them till March. I am long...I hate it, but in APRIL I don`t care, because I am over 20 and waiting for the next shoe to drop.

The companies have said in the past that the announcement of an Advisory Committee is a material event, one that would have to be announced in a press release. As we all know, the companies did not release anything on Friday. Since the FDA`s scheduling did not occur until after the market`s close, there was no requirement to do so.

As any publicist knows, if you want to bury bad news, you release it on a Friday. The companies COULD have sent out the press release on Friday evening, and no one could fault them as trying to hide the news. Instead, they are waiting for Monday.

This makes me think that the press release will have a nugget of good news. I would imagine that this nugget relates to the resumption of clinical trials.

Last week was tough on those holding Jan or Feb options (buy and hold investors don`t care since we are not selling this month anyway), but downright tragic for the MSers who were hoping for the early return of their wonder drug. The FDA should be ashamed of itself, but this is what happens with government regulation -- the public be damned so long as the FDA bureaucrats escape criticism.

Why the AC will drive PPS upwards

There has been a lot of arguement here where AC is good or bad for the PPS between now and March 7.

I would argue that Wall St. does not like `uncertainty` or `speculation`. The confirmation of an Advisory Committee by the FDA gives Wall St. `certainty` and a `solid ground` that the FDA is definitely done reviewing the Tysabri safety documents and is moving towards approval of Tysabri.

The AC is a public forum that gives the final stamp of approval in terms of Tysabri`s importance to the MS community. Therefore, it is vital that MS patients are there to testify to T`s efficacy.

Wall St. will also interpret the AC as a sign that FDA is `on schedule` with the approval of Tysabri, because the AC is the go-signal for the public to accept Tysabri back to the market.

Without an AC, Wall St. will feel left in the dark regarding T`s approval. Now, they won`t have that perception at all. Everything is `righ on schedule` and ELN`s PPS should be trending up steadily.

Others may also argue that KM and JM has already said that there will be an AC. And that the FDA announcement yesterday is not really `newsworthy`.

So, why is the announcement of the AC by the FDA significant? There is an old adage that says `it is critical who delivers the news`.

If a biotech company claims they are `so great`, that does not necessarily convince investors. But if the FDA approves and confirms their product, that makes a difference. News from the FDA at this point has more impact on PPS than news from ELN/Boob.

I remember when ELN/BIIB said they have a strong feeling they will get `priority review`. Well, that message coming from ELN/Boob did not affect PPS that much. But when FDA said that they will give priority approval to Tysabri, it moved the PPS from $8 to $14 last year. Sure, we in the YMB knew that there was a good chance of a priority review because ELN said it, but Wall St. needed that confirmation from the FDA before they raise the price from $8 to $14.

The AC, I believe, is a material event and ELN should release a PR on Monday.

nur mal kleine erklärung wie wir solch eine e-mail herstellen


wie entsteht eine e-mail

es gibt unendlich viele aktien,so das sie nie jemand auch nur ansatzweise
überblicken kann.
bekomme ich nun einen aktiennamen öfters geschickt,oder lese ihn
öfters,machen wir uns mal gedanken.
angenommen es war wie bei primacom,nur als beispiel.
primacom ist mit kabel usw tätig.
dann schaue ich wer arbeitet .z.b bei telekom firmen und bereichen,wo dazu
gehören.
dann kommen 2 user aus fonds dazu(die durchsuchen die zahlen,bilanzenm sind
ganz anders ausgerüstet wie normale user)
dazu kamen 2 anwälte für die sehr heikelen verträge der firma,wo im
wirtschaftsrecht tätig sind.
so arbeiteten etwa 10-12 user daran mit.
dann suche ich einen jungen hungrigen user aus,der aus allen fakten eine
e-mail erstellt.
diese e-mail geht dann erst an alle,wo an dieser mail mitgearbeitet haben
zur kontrolle.
unsere arbeit wird vor dem verschicken darin belohnt,daß wir wahrscheinlich
dann einen günstigeren kk haben wie die anderen.

bei aktien mit hohem volumen(z.b gzfx) eröffnen wir ca 2-4 tage später ein
neuer thread
z.b bei mologen,wo es wenig aktien gibt,würden wir ca 2 wochen warten,denn
es bringt uns auf dauer nichts,wenn wir den kurs hochtreiben durch eigene
käufe und dann alle im minus landen.
wir verschicken nur werte auf lannnnnge sicht.
bisher hatten wir sehr viel glück!!dabei
sicher werden wir auch nieten ziehen,aber ich bilde mir folgendes ein.
lasse ich eine aktie von einigen usern,unabhängig voneinander
überprüfen,bekommt man
1.viel mehr material
2.verschieden ansichten
3.einen viel besseren überblick
dann schauen 3-4 leute nach den firmen wo auch in diesem bereich tätig sind.


wir überprüfen auch sehr viele firmen,wo uns das risiko einfach zu groß
erscheint,es den leuten zu sagen,
so war viel arbeit auch für die katz.

jeder sollte sich vor einer investiton selber gedanken machen,denn wir
verschicken mails,wo keine kaufempfehlungen sind.
sie muss wenn möglich alle risiken erhalten,denn ich will das mit den usern
sehr lange machen und das geht nur mit vertrauen.
viele versuchen dies auszunutzen,indem sie mir ihre depotleichen
unterschieben wollen.
ich lasse alles vorm verschicken prüfen und habe auch schon sehr viele
bekannte user bei Wo von meiner liste rausgeschmiessen


ganz einfach
ich persönlich organisiere das,nur ich kenne von vielen ihren job.
ich alleine hätte an der börse absolut keine chance,daher mache ich das.

ich bekomme einige börsenzeitschriften zugesand und bin der meinung
diese leben alle davon,was die user auf wo herrausfinden
Wo user sind besser wie alle pusher zeitschriften,das heisst es zu bündeln
und zu hoffen,daß die leute investiert sind,bevor frick und konsorten ihr
spiel treiben.
es ist viel glück und sehr schwierig.

First of all I have to say that I really don’t believe in ‘coincidences’, especially when there are huge amounts of money at stake, and especially when the balance of events would suggest that the big guys were seemingly on the wrong side of the trade and in the process of losing out to the little guy to the tune of tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars.

These coincidences began with the ‘glitch’ on Wednesday A/H. the closing price went from $16.80 to $16.26. This glitch BTW was completely ignored in Dublin and London trading on Thursday morning where it was business as usual (trading at approx the NY close on quiet volume)

Then the specialist opened at $16.26 and trading began. This for me is one of the biggest questions on the week. The Elan specialist is very “aware”, little passes unnoticed, and (unlike other stocks which gapped higher immediately) the specialist chose to go with the glitch. A coincidence? (do I remember a couple of large blocks- 250+k being traded above the ask the previous evening)

I don’t for a nanosecond believe that the specialist made a mistake or forgot or was not aware of what was happening.

Then we had the computer trading dumping for a couple of hours – the pps dived, the NBV went way negative, yet from midday the NBV recovered as there was buying at the lower pps. Coincidence?

Fridays action was practically a déjà vu. The net effect was a $3 drop in pps, about 10m options-related shares were left worthless (meaning the shares did not have to be delivered – good for the writers as they probably had never hedged them in the first place) and the remaining tens of thousands of call options were heavily devalued. Coincidence?

In the middle of all this we had a ‘downgrade’ by an idiot who obviously serves a purpose for something on W/S to justify his salary and business card. What is that purpose? Do you need it spelled out for you? Isnt it obvious from the inane questions he asks the company (the odd time he asks the right company) and the obviously biased writings with no corroborating evidence that he produces? Oh and the presentation on Friday where the Biogen name was used in the title yet the presenters were affiliated to companies in direct competition to Biogen/Elan. Not surprisingly they proceeded to endeavour to trash Tysabri. Coincidence?

So IMO we just join the dots – we were screwed. The big boys don’t like to loose and they don’t have to play fair. That’s the reality. Anyone thinking otherwise is just too naïve IMO. Can it be proven? Yes if you have the resources to do all the digging. Will it? I answer that by asking “who owns the system?” The big guys or the little guys? QED.

Biogen Idec and Elan Announce Notification of FDA Advisory Committee Meeting to Review TYSABRI(R) for the Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. and DUBLIN, Ireland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 23, 2006--Biogen Idec (NASDAQ: BIIB) and Elan Corporation, plc. (NYSE: ELN) announced today that they have received notification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that the Peripheral and Central Nervous System Drugs Advisory Committee will review TYSABRI(R) (natalizumab) for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) on March 7, 2006.

On September 26, 2005 the companies announced that they submitted to the FDA a supplemental Biologics License Application (sBLA) for TYSABRI. Subsequently, the FDA designated TYSABRI for Priority Review. wenn der Kurs weiter runter geht, werden wir die heutigen Kurse auf jeden Fall wieder sehen (spätestens in zwei Monaten),

wenn die Kurse allerdings hoch gehen, werden wir die heutigen Kurse nicht wieder sehen.

Somit ist das Risiko von Kursverlusten, bezogen auf die nächsten drei Monate, sehr gering. Das Risiko, den Kursen hinterher zu laufen allerdings recht groß.

Aus diesem Grunde habe ich heute auch endlich wieder nachlegen können.

Hatte halt ein wenig Glück, dass die Kurse in den letzten Tagen so abgesackt sind.

Elan, Biogen Expect U.S. Regulators` Verdict on Key Suspended Drug Tysabri in March

DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) -- Drug makers Elan Corp. PLC and Biogen Idec Inc. said Monday they expect U.S. regulators to decide in March whether their suspended multiple-sclerosis treatment Tysabri can return to the American market.

The joint makers of the drug said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had told both companies that an advisory committee would discuss whether to permit Tysabri to return to the U.S. market on March 7 and would make a decision "by late March."

Elan, based in Dublin, and Biogen of Cambridge, Mass., withdrew Tysabri from sale in February 2005 after confirming that two multiple sclerosis sufferers using it had contracted a rare brain disease, one fatally. The companies later confirmed that another person taking Tysabri for treatment of Crohn`s disease, an intestinal disorder, had died of the same disease called PML, or progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.

The FDA launched an accelerated review of Tysabri`s risks in November after the two companies screened about 3,500 people, mostly in the United States, who had taken Tysabri in clinical trials and detected no new cases of PML.

Analysts said they expected U.S. regulators to permit Tysabri`s sale but with a range of new restrictions and warnings.

Elan shares fell in a broadly weak Dublin market, down 9.3 percent by midday to 10.70 euros ($13.15) -- about half their value when Tysabri was withdrawn. Elan`s market value is tied closely to the fortunes of Tysabri, its most high-profile drug in development.

The FDA had approved Tysabri for sale in November 2004 to the approximately 350,000 Americans who suffer from MS, a debilitating and incurable disease that can cause sudden partial paralysis. The drug was administered every four weeks by intravenous infusion.

The two companies say no case of PML has been confirmed among any of approximately 5,000 people, chiefly in the United States, who took Tysabri during the drug`s three-month availability on the U.S. market.

WASHINGTON -- The Food and Drug Administration will convene a panel of outside medical experts on March 7 to help determine whether Tysabri, a treatment for multiple sclerosis, should be allowed to return to the market.

The agency said the panel will discuss Tysabri`s "possible return to the marketplace and its proposed risk management plans." Tysabri, made by Biogen Idec Inc. and Elan Corp., was voluntarily removed from the U.S. market last February after two patients developed a rare brain disorder, and one died. A third patient was later discovered to have the disorder, known as progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, or PML, in studies of the drug for Crohn`s disease, an intestinal illness.

The FDA typically follows its panels` advice but isn`t required to. The FDA is expected to make a final decision on Tysabri`s fate by the end of March.

Biogen, Cambridge, Mass., and Elan, based in Ireland, said yesterday a review of about 3,000 patients who had taken Tysabri showed no new cases of PML.

If Tysabri is allowed to return to the market it will likely contain new warnings about the possibility of PML and restrictions. The FDA first approved the drug in November 2004 to treat MS, a progressive disease that affects the spinal cord and brain and involves damage to nerves that control muscles and vision.

Biogen and Elan filed for permission to return the drug to the market in September. The FDA granted so-called priority review status to the application, which is usually reserved for drugs the agency deems would be a "significant improvement" compared with existing treatments if the product were to be approved. It cuts about four months off of the typical 10-month review period for a drug.

When Tysabri was approved, many analysts believed it would become the top MS treatment after indications the drug was more effective than current MS treatments like Avonex, also made by Biogen.

Ausgehend von der vorrangigen Einstufung des Antrags zur Zulassung von TYSABRI bei MS von Seiten der FDA rechnen die Unternehmen in etwa 6 Monaten ab dem Einreichungsdatum bzw. bis Ende März 2006 mit einer entsprechenden Antwort der Behörde.

Tysabri review could return suspended Elan drug to market

Elan shares rose 3.22 per cent following the news yesterday that a US committee is to review the company`s suspended multiple sclerosis drug Tysabri.

The decision of the review committee will have a major impact on the future of Elan and its partner Biogen Idec.

Analysts predicted that the review would pave the way for the return of the drug to the market but warned that worries in the meantime could lead to a share price fall.

Tysabri was withdrawn last February after a fatal case of the rare brain and spinal-chord infection progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) occured to one of the clinical trial patients. Two further cases of PML later emerged.

If the product is approved for sale again, it is likely to come with an amended label that will highlight the issue of PML. The drug is seen as key to restoring Elan`s fortunes after a brush with bankruptcy in 2002.

The committee is part of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US.

It has stated that it will announce its finding on Tysabri by March 26th at the latest. Elan is expected to announce its full-year results on January 31st.

Davy, which acts as broker to Elan, said that in the nine months to end September 2005, the market for the four major MS drugs available was worth at least $3.7 billion (€3 milion).

It said revenues for the first nine months of 2005 were up 15.5 per cent.

NCB said that "while we would expect this panel [the committee] to recommend to the FDA the relaunch of Tysabri, the risk of negative commentary ahead of the panel`s decision could generate negative sentiment and weak share price performance".

The broker said that a relaunch of Tysabri "is expected to coincide with the publication of the revised label, which will highlight the two cases of PML in patients on combination therapy and the risk of PML should a patient be immunosuppressed, along with further data from the two-year phase III clinical studies. We continue to believe that the FDA will approve the relaunch of Tysabi as a treatment option for MS patients by the end of March 2006."

In September of last year Elan and Biogen submitted to the FDA a supplemental licence application which was granted priority review status. Priority review is granted to products that address and unmet medical need and are considered to offer potentially significant therapeutic advancements over existing therapies, according to Elan.

It said the application included two-year data from the phase III trial, a revised label and a risk management plan, as well as an integrated safety assessment of Tysabri clinical trial patients.

Elan and Biogen "also recently completed a comprehensive safety evalution of more than 3,000 Tysabri patients in collaboration with leading experts in PML and MS," Elan said. "The results yielded no new confirmed cases of PML beyond the three previously reported."

Elan closed 44 cents higher at $14.10 in New York last night.

Elan Corp., Ireland`s biggest drugmaker, and Biogen Idec Inc. said a US Food and Drug Administration advisory committee will review their multiple sclerosis treatment Tysabri on March 7.

Alerts The drug, which was withdrawn after two patients died of a rare nerve disease, will get a priority review, the companies said yesterday. Dublin-based Elan applied to the FDA in September to resume sales after studies found no new cases of the nerve disease.

Biogen chief executive James Mullen two weeks ago said the Cambridge-based company expects to reintroduce the product in the United States by midyear. Tysabri may generate annual sales of $1 billion by 2010, said JP Morgan analyst Ronald Renaud. Before the safety concerns, analysts had said the drug might bring in as much as $3 billion.

Elan shares fell 27 cents, or 2.3 percent, to 11.53 euros at the close of trading in Dublin. The stock has gained 24 percent since the FDA said Nov. 18 it would grant the drug priority review.

FDA advisers will focus in their meeting on whether neurologists can adequately monitor the nerve disease called progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, or PML, that led to Tysabri`s removal from the market, Mullen has said.

US regulators approved Tysabri in November 2004 under a fast-track program to speed promising medicines to patients with serious diseases. Tysabri was pulled from the market in just three months after reports of two cases of PML. A third case was later identified. Two patients died from the disorder.

That potential buyers of SRA are waiting to see the impact Tysabri on all other MS drugs, especially when considering the 15B price tag of SRA .

They [big pharma] might even be considering buying ELN or BIIB instead of SRA, so interest in lacking in purchasing SRA and their MS drug rebif, makes more sense to hold on to your ELN shares.
