(MT Newswires) -- SSE (SSE.L) hat am Dienstag den Verkauf seines 33,3%igen Anteils an dem Gasversorgungsunternehmen Scotia Gas Networks für 1,29 Milliarden Pfund Sterling (1,71 Milliarden Dollar) an ein Konsortium aus Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board und Brookfield abgeschlossen.

Der Verkauf ist Teil der Strategie von SSE, sich ausschließlich auf saubere Energie zu konzentrieren. Der Verkauf signalisiert den Ausstieg aus dem Markt der Gasproduktion.

Die Aktien von SSE stiegen am Dienstagnachmittag um 1%.

The utility could make as much as 172 million pounds ($233 million) in an auction that cleared at 75-70 pounds a kilowatt per year on Tuesday, according to calculations using National Grid Plc data.

SSE stands to be by far the biggest winner among the companies competing.

The capacity market -- a mechanism designed to guarantee there’s enough energy available for the country -- is paid for by consumers. In a sign of caution about security of supply, the government last month decided to increase the target capacity it wants to have available next winter.

The capacity target for next winter was raised after it became clear that some stations with a four-year contract were now unable to fulfill their obligations. SSE put forward gas units for the auction.

SSE controls 42% of the capacity bidding, it has a “very strong hand” in setting the price, BloombergNEF analyst Andreas Gandolfo said.

U.K. electricity producer SSE Plc boosted its earnings outlook for the year as record power prices compensated for lower output from its renewable energy plants.

The company now expects earnings per share of 90 pence for the year ending March 31, 8.4% higher than a previous forecast, it said in a statement Tuesday. The company also revamped its 2030 goals, setting up new emissions reductions and targets for green power production.

Gas and electricity prices jumped over the past year as Europe has suffered from energy shortages.

Higher prices are helping to boost SSE’s profit, with good performances in particular from thermal and hydro power units more than offsetting the decline in renewables generation, the company said.

SSE’s gas plants have provided “balance” to the company’s earnings through a turbulent trading period demonstrating “the value of SSE’s integrated business mix”, finance director Gregor Alexander said.

leider wurde auch eine Anpassung (Kürzung) der Dividende angekündigt, so dass ich mich gestern von der Hälfte meines Bestandes getrennt habe (VK Kurs 19,02)
Schade, ich hatte mir unmittelbar nach dem Brexit Votum eine doch eher große Position gekauft. Anlass war auch ein Besuch in der SSE Arena in Belfast. Dividenden wurden gleich wieder angelegt. Bin trotzdem, auch mit dem Restbestand deutlich im Plus. War nun doch aber ein ziemlicher "Klumpen" geworden.
Na mal sehen wie sich der Restbestand hält.

SSE Plc plunged the most in more than year after the U.K. utility rejected calls for a break-up as it unveiled a green spending drive funded by a dividend cut and asset sales.

The energy company expects to sell a 25% stake of both its transmission and distribution grid assets, confirming an earlier Bloomberg report. The sale, combined with a 40% dividend cut from 2024, will fund a 12.5 billion-pound ($17 billion) increase in spending for net-zero infrastructure over the next five years.

SSE made clear that it would not be breaking up the company, despite pressure from activist investor Elliott Investment Management. The activist hedge fund, which has been meeting privately with SSE officials and other major shareholders, sees value in separating the company’s renewable portfolio from its regulated grid business.

The strategy to boost its net-zero growth may not be enough to appease Elliott’s call for a spinoff of the renewables unit, according Paul Vickars, a credit analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence. While the plan helps SSE’s credit profile, it doesn’t unlock the equity-valuation upside of a renewables IPO.

“It’s clear that keeping the business together is core to the strategy,” Alistair Phillips-Davies, SSE’s chief executive officer said in an interview on Bloomberg TV. “We’ve got the optimal package and I think well get strong support from shareholders across the board.”

Billionaire Paul Singer’s Elliott Investment Management is pushing for a breakup of SSE Plc after building up a stake in the British power company, people with knowledge of the matter said.

The activist hedge fund sees value in separating SSE’s renewable portfolio from its regulated electricity businesses, the people said, asking not be identified because the information is private. Elliott has been meeting privately with representatives from SSE, which is based in the central Scottish city of Perth, as well as some of its major shareholders, according to the people.

Shares of SSE gained as much as 2.4% on Tuesday, giving it a market value of 17.2 billion pounds ($23.9 billion). The company has developed clean energy projects across the U.K. and Ireland, with about 4 gigawatts of wind and hydroelectric power assets, according to its website. It aims to triple its renewable power output from 2019 levels by 2030.
